We will have a Relay Reunion Point where you can wait for team member 2 as they are coming into the finish.
PACE TEAMS As a benefit to our participants, we are offering Pace Teams. Our pace groups will be led by experienced pacers for a wide variety of times. Pace Teams will be lined up in both colors with pace signs displayed along the Start Corral area; however, all pace teams with :30 pace in the Maroon Corral and :00 in the Blue Corral. If your goal time is not in your color corral, you may meet up with your pace team once the two corrals meet or when you cross the start line. We hope you will find this support useful as you strive to achieve your goal. A pace team is a group of runners led by an experienced leader who run together during the race. The pace leader runs a steady pace and keeps track of that pace so that the group can achieve their goal of a particular time. There are wonderful benefits of running with a pace group. You’ll be supported by a cheerful leader and will
Pace Teams | 7 be side by side with other runners sharing the same goal as you. One of the biggest mistakes that participants make is starting out too fast and then hitting the wall in the later portions of the race. The pace team will run at an even pace per mile. If the pace feels too slow in the beginning of the race that’s normal. Just stay with the group and ask the pace leader about an appropriate strategy for the second part of the race. If you find the pace too fast in the early miles, then slow down and drop back from the team so you’ll be able to finish the race.
What Pace Groups are offered? Below is the line-up of Pace Teams available. Pace Groups: 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30 and 12:00 minutes per mile pace.
What does it cost to run with the Pace Team? The Pace Team is FREE! How do I sign up to run with the Pace Team? The Pacers will be next to the Packet Pickup area on race day.
How will the Pacers be running the race? Every pace leader will be holding a steady pace throughout the race. These “even splits” are the best way to achieve your peak performance in the race.
Will the Pacers start out on pace exactly? How do they do that!? The guys and gals serving as Pace Leaders are very experienced and know their pace well. Sometimes at the start it’s crowded and may take a mile or so to settle into a steady pace. Most importantly, they won’t take you out too fast and burn up all your energy early on.
Where will my Pace Leader be on race morning? About 30 minutes before the start, we’ll be assembling in the starting areas. About 15 minutes before the start, the Pacer will give you some last minute instructions about running with the group. They will talk about the course, what to do if you need a break, and how to make it through the water stops. This is the time to ask any last minute questions you may have.
What will my Pace Leader wear? Pace Leaders will be wearing bright green Pace Team uniforms. Each Pacer will be holding up their pace sign so when you see it go and join up with the group.
What will the Pace Leader do at the water stations? The Pacer will usually slow down or walk through the water stops. Listen for this information during the last minute instructions.

A first aid station will be available at Mile 5 along the course at the Relay Hospitality station. Coastal Health Systems ambulances will be on site during the event at the finish line.
A NOTE FROM OUR MEDICAL DIRECTOR Health First introduces our Medical Director, Dr. Bryan Parry. Dr. Parry is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and is a fellow of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He practices at Health First. Even with proper training for long distances, you still may suffer from heat stress or become dehydrated. Here are a few tips to remember during the race:
Dr. Bryan Parry
n Make sure you are hydrated before the race with both water and electrolyte replacement fluid. n Try to intake 4-6 ounces every 20 minutes during the race. You should drink water or electrolyte replacement fluid at each water station. n Medical research has shown that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Advil, Motrin (ibuprofen) and Aleve may be harmful to runners’ kidney function if taken within 24 hours of running. Also, they may increase the risk of hyponatremia by interfering with the body’s ability to retain salt. Tylenol has been shown to be safe. n Know the symptoms of heat stress, dehydration or other symptoms in which to seek medical assistance: nausea and/or vomiting; dizziness, confusion, loss of peripheral vision; dry skin, your body is no longer able to perspire; chest pain. If anything like this occurs, seek medical assistance. Our medical team will be there to help on race day to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable race.
