Access to Higher Education Access to Higher Education courses prepare you for university study and can be your passport to an entirely new career! They provide students with the skills and qualifications for progression onto Degrees, Foundation Degrees, other higher level studies and career pathways in less than 12 months. This course offers vast opportunities for those wishing to work in Psychology, Welfare Services, Neuropsychology and in areas such as the Criminal Justice System, Youth and Community work.

For those wishing to teach within a Primary School setting. This course offers potential careers in Primary School Teaching, Family Support, Early Years Teaching or Learning Mentor roles.
Please note: As degree entry requirements vary, please research the entry requirements for any intended future Higher Education course to ensure that your chosen Access to HE course is the right route for you.
Your course may be free! Depending upon your age and circumstances, you could also be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees. Loan repayments only start once you are earning over £25,000 a year and only in the following tax year. What’s more, if you successfully complete a Degree / Higher Education course following your Access to HE course, the balance of your Access loan will be written off.

University Courses If you’d like to study closer to home in a supportive learning environment, our innovative university courses are available in a range of subjects. Our courses are accredited and awarded by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). They are designed specifically to advance your career prospects and combine university studies with the skills employers seek. These are typically taught over a compact timetable of 2-3 days. What’s more, as a Runshaw degree student you’ll also have full access to the services, facilities and support of both UCLan and Runshaw College.

BA/BSc (Hons) Degrees • Community & Social Care: Policy & Practice • Psychology & Criminology Our degrees are designed to develop analytical, intellectual and essay writing skills. You’ll undertake the first year of your degree at Runshaw College and then progress to complete the second and third years at UCLan.
Foundation Degrees • Criminology & Criminal Justice Designed by employers, Foundation Degrees are qualifications in their own right, and equivalent to the first two years of an Honours Degree. They can also be ‘topped-up’ to a full Honours Degree usually through one more year of study.
Teacher Training Post 16 (Full Time 1 year) • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) • Certificate in Education and Training (CertEd) Train to be a Teacher! This one year qualification offers a sound introduction to teaching in the post 16 sector, giving you an integrated overview of teaching theory and practice. You may also be able to undertake your teaching practice placement at Runshaw College, an Ofsted outstanding college.
Foundation Entry • Community & Social Care: Policy & Practice • Medical Sciences These courses are designed for students who have the ability to study for a degree; but may not have the necessary formal qualifications to go straight on to their chosen programme of study. These are 1 year programmes, studied typically over 2-3 days a week.

Apprenticeships A Runshaw Apprenticeship is a great way to get the most from education and employment. Whether you are starting a career for the first time, already in work and looking to further your skills in that area, or just looking for a change in career, our Apprenticeships can take you where you want to go! Anyone living in England, aged 16 or over and not in full time education can apply to become an Apprentice. If you are already employed you can also apply to become an Apprentice as part of your Continuous Professional Development.

Finance Investing in your education may be easier than you think! Financial Support for Students aged 19+ Many financial packages are available to help lower the cost of learning and depending on your circumstances, courses may be free or available at reduced prices. To receive financial support you must comply with nationality and residency conditions, age rules and previous study rules. Other financial support may be available to help towards childcare and transport costs:
Learners in Receipt of Low Wage - Some learners may be eligible to study a full Level 2 course free of charge if they are employed and earning an annual gross salary less than £16,009.50.
