Here you can walk in the footsteps of Birger Jarl, enjoy picturesque surroundings and breathe in beautiful nature. The varied landscape offers rapeseed-fragrant plains and deep forests where you can hike among orchids, ice-age trails and ancient monuments.

The churches are many and open for visitors. In Bjälbo you can find a well-known church, which was part of the estate of the House of Bjälbo, also known as the House of Folkung. Here, in 1210, Birger Jarl was born – Sweden's most powerful and last jarl, who it’s said founded Stockholm in the year 1252.

The dark waters of the Svartån stream wind through the old mill village of Mjölby , which is today the municipality’s capital. On an island in the stream, you'll find the rural life museum, with its beautiful buildings that talk of a time when farmers came from near and far to grind their grain at the rapids and falls of the Svartån. Or take a swing at the mini golf course in the centre of town. In the centre of Mjölby you’ll also find Lundbybadet, where you can swim in the outdoor pool in summer. The larger children will love the high diving board, while the small splash pool is perfect for the youngest. At Lundbybadet you can also rent a canoe if you want to take a trip along the Svartån.

Some small towns live and thrive – Väderstad, in Mjölby municipality, is one of them. In this small, picturesque village you can enjoy beautiful surroundings, shopping and, of course, a coffee at a well-known café. Centralkonditoriet’s interior is inspired by the 1930s and on the bread shelves original classics rub shoulders with innova- tive specialities. In the neighbouring shops you’ll find delicacies, shellfish, interior design and a well-stocked building maintenance shop. The businesses and entrepreneurs have put Väderstad on the map, and visitors come from far away to admire the result.

Interested in history? If so, you should head to Skänninge, one of Sweden's oldest towns. In the centre of the town, the 14th century Church of our Lady rises in all its glory, and in the square, Ture Lång gazes out over the town. Around the square you’ll find cute shops and the town hall, which houses the town museum. In Gamla Skeninge, the old town, there are idyllic wooden houses with beautiful gardens and a herb garden where you can relax on a warm summer's day. Skänninge’s golden age was the 1200-1300s when the town served as a hub for trade on the Östgöta plain. The market has a long tradition and you can still visit Skänningemarken, Sweden's oldest street market. If you want to dive deeper into the history of Skänninge, a guided tour with the local guide association is highly recommended .

If you're looking for excitement, head to the fast paced Mantorp Park and Mantorps Hästsportsarena. Since it stared in 1969, Mantorp Park has been one of Sweden’s leading motor racing tracks, offering a number of events. At Mantorps Hästsportsarena, you’ll find equine sports, pleasant surroundings and exciting events.

In the evening perhaps you’ll feel like taking a dip in one of our lakes? There are swimming spots in Mjölby, Skänninge, Normlösa and Västra Harg. Why not combine an evening dip in Lake Skogssjön with a barbecue and a game of beach volleyball? Or an evening walk on any of the hiking trails running through the municipality? Mjölby Municipality offers something for everyone.
