The building is shroued with a skin to question the experimental relationship of bringing industry into the city and urban life. The Shroud penetrates into urban life, exposing the processes of waste to energy as a learning experience while also merging nature and public programming for people to come and enjoy. The private machine systems start from the un-loading area. The waste will transfer to burn in the incinerator. That energy will turn to electricity and heat the swimming pool. The last two steps are scrubbers and chimneys, which will clean the gas and release it into the atmosphere. The public programs are outdoor parks, indoor garden, swimming pools for diving, and scuba diving. Those programs are closely aligning with the machine are, and it provides chances for visitors to learn and participate in the sustainable system.

We know the insanitary is an industrial program to deal with our life waste. We should celebrate how this program can magically help and protect the environment. University Height is an unusual site for an industrial building. It is a crowded city; there is a train station right beside our location. Comparing the surrounding area. The residences building around are mostly around 100 feet tall simultaneously; our chimney is 375 feet. This means our building will be giant and evident for the locals. Our project uses the new skin like a shell to shroud the industrial city with the recreation program, blending into urban life. By having 20% openings and using different materials, we are not entirely hiding it and not fully exposing it.

Mechanical Systems The Shroud temperature is only controlled by the three AHU (Air Handling Units with VAV system). Each of them locates in public, mechanical, and working areas. There are three Water Cooled Chillers (with Pump beside) to connect with each of the AHU, and those chillers will be cooled down by heat exchangers where located at the river bed. The Boiler (with Pump beside) is connected to the incinerator below to exchange the extra heat from burning. The boiler can also work individually without incinerator, and provide floor heating for recreation areas. One Air Ventilator to exhaust the bad air from the waste holding area.

The studio project explored a Shared Live-Work Hybrid Tower project in Downtown Brooklyn, incorporated variations of micro-units. The Tower will have units for a single/group of individuals and small families. It will be up to the students to determine and conceptualize the distribution and nature of shared spaces, as well as the work environments. New potentials of adjacencies will be explored between and within units. Modern concepts of shared amenities, their distribution, and spatial constructs within the body of the Tower (s) will be investigated.

We started with research on the example plans where on the triangular site, to start from the plan, and to build our concept, then use the idea to develop a three-dimensional form of our building. The concept is merely using three bars to fill the site. Instead of building bridges between them, I bend and curved these strips to merge the top or the bottom part. End with more shared spaces and openings in this building. The form of my building is keeping the idea of connecting two bars. So all these strips look like are separate deleted, but they are all connected as one large piece. By bending the wall, windows are going in and out of different sizes. Some of them become balconies. And those windows are also merging, becoming one piece.

This project is mainly to design a fun and inspiring interior space located in architecture for public use. I started from building interior spaces (wall, floor, stairs) in Revit. After that, we export the revit model into Rhino and adding more texture or abstract geometries into the spaces to make a more exciting environment.

This project is starting from discovering the positive and negative spaces by carving out one cube with one single project. I chose one cube with the best interior spacing quality. I cut out the cube to design the space and circulation. After the plan, we created the facade, make some enclosure and openings.

By mixed 2D and 3D puzzle together, simultaneously allows them to still exist as having their own distinct characteristics. The material becomes white paint wall when the space is interior. The skin and shell materials for each volume are switching between Steel and Bronze. Smaller keys with vertical core are bronze. The large volume with shells are mostly steel.

The city district of Zibo, the third largest by population within the Shandong province, has been a key stone mining location till recent years. The excavation activities, particularly focused on the Zichuan sub-district marked the rural areas of the province with invasive interventions and disruptions of the local ecosystem. The mountainous area is today characterized by woodlands, villages, mine pits in quarries and terraces built with stone. The extraction activities have been terminated, generating the need for new purpose and value in a location with unique cultural, ecological and social conditions. Chinese landscape painting is traditionally at the top of the hierarchy of Chinese painting styles. It is very popular and is associated with refined scholarly taste. The Chinese term for “landscape” comprises two characters meaning “mountains and water.” It is linked with the philosophy of Taoism, which emphasizes harmony with the natural world. The character Tao means “path” or “way.” All major Chinese philosophical schools have investigated the correct Way to go about a moral life, but in Taoism, it takes on the most abstract meanings. It advocates non-action ( wuwei ), the power of softness, spontaneity, and relativism. Wu Wei involves letting go of ideals that we may otherwise try to force too violently onto things; it invites us instead to respond to the true demands of situations, which tend only to be noticed when we put our own ego-driven plans aside. What can follow is a loss of selfconsciousness, a new unity between the self and its environment, which releases an energy that is normally held back by an overly aggressive, wilful style of thinking. The Tao Te Ching tells us that we should be like water; ‘submissive and weak’, yet with unsurpassable power to overcome what is hard and strong. Nowadays, mining activities are aggressively happening worldwide, and its impacts and changes the landscape—the quarry bringing the new texture to the earth, but the process polluted the water. The Pulsating Garden uses the Taoism philosophy of Chinese painting to hybridize mining space and existing conditions to show the harmony of human activities and nature.

The Pulsating Garden uses the Taoism philosophy of Chinese painting to hybridize mining space and existing conditions to show the harmony of human activities and nature. By applying the ancient philosophy to the new situation, the garden turns the carved out mountain to be a healing machine. Water acts as an agent in the Pulsating Garden; it collects the rainwater from the top shafts and excavates the underground water into the pool.

This garden transports the natural resource to irrigate the surrounding farmland. We let the water flow by itself from the mountain to the farm to show the hardness and softness. Those shafts, waterfalls, pools, and canals create a harmonious atmosphere and indicate mysterious, edgeless, floating, and imaginary languages from Chinese painting. “Grant Music Has the Faintest Notes; Great Form is Beyond Shape.” ' Tao Te Ching '

Project Energos is TerraScale’s global plan to design, develop, finance and build the infrastructure required to accommodate our planet’s rapid increases in data usages, enable heightened response to emergencies and power our planet, all in a resilient and sustainable fashion. Through the Project Energos global rollout TerraScale intends to change the face of the data center industry by combining on-site renewable energy with modular data centers creating a truly clean and redundant facilities in 20+ different locations globally, commencing with the Energos Reno pilot project near Reno, NV. At a high level, the Energos Reno project strategy is to leverage the first on-site renewable energy microgrid into a modular data center of 20MW, with initial anchor load from the United States Air Force. This data center will have the capability to be expanded to commercial client needs with the power to keep running even if there is no sun or wind. Our goal is to unleash a new wave of critical infrastructure development in the United States, while also creating programs and bringing key partners to foster innovation, economic growth, job creation and sustainability while enhancing the energy and data security interests of cities across the country. The Data Center folded concrete façade employs the latest technology in low-carbon concrete by reducing the cement required for concrete. The cementitious element of concrete is responsible for the majority of the embodied carbon in the concrete. This means it is worth concentrating on reducing the cement required for the concrete. Superplasticiser admixtures help reduce tWhe embodied carbon by reducing the water/cement ratio. This provides a stronger concrete for the same quantity of cement. The Data Center will also employ the use of aerated concrete which involves the addition of a foaming agent such as aluminum powder to a mixture of cement, siliceous-based fine aggregate and water, to react with the lime in cement and create expansive reactions due to the formation of hydrogen gas, thereby producing a lightweight porous material. The exterior of the Data Center will also employ green wall technology, using locally sourced arid climate low-maintenance plant material.

The Red Room Achivement, Publishment, Design and Build DIFFA: The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS’s Dining by Design event, held in six U.S. cities throughout the year, recruits event and interior designers to create elaborate dining installations for a fund-raising dinner. For the 21st installment of Dining by Design, designers and manufacturers brought elaborate vignettes to Pier 92 in New York. DIFFA’s annual fundraiser, part of the Architectural Digest Design Show, supports organizations that fight HIV/AIDS. Leaders from Perkins + Will, Rapt Studio, Rottet Studio, Rockwell Group, Gensler, and more, dreamed up wonderful spaces full of glamour, vibrant eye-catching colors, and whimsical settings. Third-year Interior Design student Erin Checkosky and fourth-year Interior Design students Runxue Guo, Anna Harea, and Brandon Perler represented the College and built "The Red Room," a circular setting meant to create a sense of unity and act as a visual representation of the HIV/AIDS awareness movement. Advised by Interior Design faculty member Maureen Crilly and DIFFA-mentor Tyler Wisler, the students designed, fabricated, and installed their entry in roughly six weeks, and with a tight budget. As one of the three schools invited to take part, along with graduate programs from Pratt and Parsons, the team was awarded a $2,500 stipend to complete the project. Limited time and funds meant students had to budget and strategize; this required getting creative with materials, writing to companies for donations, and turning to classmates for help with fabrication processes and installation. The final product is a compact space saturated in a vibrant red and dominated by cylindrical elements—architectural tubing, stools, a round table, and scores of hanging paper lanterns. The students, as written in their description, hoped to create "a celestial aura that emphasizes the feeling of hope and prosperity." The room-defining paint was donated by Benjamin Moore, draping fabric by Carnegie Fabrics, and lighting—which Guo deemed the most important aspect—by Interior Design faculty member John Newman. "I remember checking in at one point and it was a lot of work—it’s not only designing and fabricating, but they're doing a lot of project management," said Director of Operations Lucas Thorpe, noting that the three senior students are also in the midst of completing their theses. "But they still were super positive about it, super excited."
