ROOTED / Spencer Homes Master Plan Senior Year | Fall 17’ This studio was based around sustainability and how buildings should lower the impact they have on the world’s carbon footprint. The site of the project was located in a North Omaha Nebraska community known as Spencer Homes. A majority of the community lives below the poverty line and many lack their own vehicle transportation. The studio was supported and in co-existence with the Omaha Housing Authority to gather input on the existing neighborhood and the projects throughout the semester. The objective of the first portion of the semester was to design a master plan for the whole community. The objective of the ladder half of the semester was to chose one building in the master plan and design it further for the submission of the COTE competition. Group project; three team members. competitions by AIA and ASCA Innovation 2030 - COTE Competition for Students

The Amplifying Bench Sophomore Year | Spring

The objective of this studio was to design an installation for the users of a local dog park in Lincoln, NE. The installation was to accommodate the users on any portion of the sight which had to be connected like a wall. The site had a small creek running through the middle of the exsiting landscape which had consistent grade change throughout. Group project; four team members.

Feastly Kansas City Junior Year | Spring 17’ The objective of this studio was to design a building just outside the heart of the downtown Crossroads District in Kansas City, Missouri. We first researched the district where the site was located, as well as Kansas City as a whole. The building was to consist of three functions all having to do with food: 3-star michelin dining, public market, and a banquet space. As a studio we encountered a difficult site which consisted of an existing parking lot that had a significant grade change of 16’ from one corner to another within a half block area. Along with the design of the building we had to brand each of the three functions based off a food photographer, the Toilet Paper magazine, and a 3-star michelin chef.

EVENT SPACE

RESTAURANT

The hearth of the building acting as a gathering place for groups and events for the public.

Tucked towards the adjacent building to avoid sunlight and create an intimate space away from the busy street corner.

MARKET

BANQUET

Street - level for easy access and high visibility to attract people from around the Crossroads District.

Elevated for views towards the downtown area and for more sunlight in the afternoon hours.

Design Build - Emerge Soph/Junior Year | Summer 16’ This studio was a design build opportunity that was given by the college focused on wood as a material. The design build was partnered with an existing tree farm just outside of Eugene, OR which was the site of the project. After touring the tree farm as well as touring some wood production factories in Oregon we had to design a small dwelling (8’ x 10’) which would accomodate 2-3 people. The concept of our design was to be used not only as a dwelling but also as an educational tool since students from around the area would tour the tree farm to gain knowledge of tree farms, wood as a material, and nature in general.
