So(w) Grand is a hybrid proposal that includes housing, retail, and urban farming aspects all in one project. The proposed site is on Grand Ave in Chicago, Illinois along the Kennedy Expressway. Our proposal is an expression of the urban farming lifestyle and co-housing initiatives realized through the concept of showcase. The landscape (farm/park) is on top of the retail space so the urban farm can envelop the whole site to be showcased. The building is lifted above and the shared spaces protrude out of the facade being showcased.

The large greenhouse for the urban farm is along the street and is divided to allow for two types of growing (food production and plant production). Within split there is a large ramp that leads to the park which is on top of the retail. This ramp can be used as a space for local farmers’ markets and a place to sell food being produced on site in the summer. The outdoor farming is terraced for easy farming as well as for making it possible to divide among residents who would like to farm/grow. The cores and vertical circulation is put between the buildings which allows for more leaseable space and room for shared spaces along corridors as well as for larger extrusions. This project showcases the urban farming lifestyle through allowing the landscape to be one continuous experience throughout the whole site.

Designed for a local tree farm near Eugene, Oregon. Emerge was a design build project sponsored by the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. The project was mainly CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) and designed around the focus of educating the youth who would come to the tree farm on field trips. As a group we collaborated and developed a plan which would illustrate wood as a recyclable material. This project really opened my eyes to how much it takes to build a design as we went from tree to finished dwelling.

The goal of this proposal was to enhance both the experiecnes that workers had at the manufacturing hub as well as their escape from it . Wheather the escapes comes from an office/shop space or just escaping the building itself and enhancing the landscape around it for the users and workers to enjoy. Our concepts were “moment of escape” and this idea we called the “Third Space.” To fufill our concepts we needed a super structure that would support this large ramp that weaved its way through the building allowing for a gradual experience up and down the building.

Designed around the 2017 AIA COTE Competition for Students, Rooted is a sustainable design that is centered around building a healthy community and effective building performance. There were two phases of the project; first was a master plan for an existing North Omaha community, second was to design the Community Center for that same community. The existing community was known as the Spencer Homes Community built and monitored by the Omaha Housing Authority. Two main concepts were solar orientation and landscape integration.

The Spencer Homes Community Center is designed in and around the formed landscape. The community center’s entrance is towards the south to avoid harsh northern winds in the winter. The previous page shows a master plan including the community center in the middle as well as many section isometric drawings showing types of experiences throughout the site. The section shows the gym space to the left and the large atrium in the center of the building as well as the large ramp that connects the upstairs and downstairs spaces. The elevation drawing shows how the elevated bikeway connects to the roof of the community center.
