Biblical Studies classroom gets an upgrade

“Adding a Smart TV, to incorporate interactive technology with the use of YouTube and electronic maps, brought a new dimension to our teaching techniques,” said Travis.

The group installedfour computers so that students could work as a group on weekly presentations in class. They agreed that teaching the Bible as an ancient  literary document with the historical cultural focus on the development of the three monotheistic religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam would be a challenge without visual elements in the classroom. Students learn to overcome student loans

Students interview Holly Springs mayor

Dr. Darryl Scriven, a renowned motivational speaker, visited Rust College on Nov. 12, to screen his new documentary, “Overcoming Student Loan Debt” to more than 300 students in the Morehouse Auditorium of the Doxey Alumni Fine Arts Communication Center. In the documentary, Scriven outlines young professionals struggling to handle their student loan payments and offers solutions on how to conquer this problem. Some of the solutions offered by Scriven, a professor of philosophy at Florida A&M University, include taking only what is needed to cover educational costs, procuring a part-time job to pay debt while still in school and paying above the minimum amount due to pay loan off faster. After the viewing, Scriven held an interactive question and answer session, incorporating the same principles expressed not only in the video but also by Rust College’s Default Prevention Team of “Know Before You Owe” in regards to financing your college education. The event was co-sponsored by Rust College’s Default Prevention Team and the Theta Upsilon chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Several Rust College students visited the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014. The students were greeted by Dr. Karen S. Coats, Dean of the Graduate School and other graduate school admissions staff. Carolyn Cawthon, assistant to the dean for Operations and Recruitment facilitated the campus visit. Following a complimentary breakfast provided by the graduate school, the students were given a very thorough presentation on the admissions process by Omaria Gray, manager of graduate school admissions. Students then met with various graduate department representatives to discuss the rigors of the programs. The students enjoyed lunch provided the graduate school and were given tours of the campus. Graduate school representatives then ended the day with a “questions and answers” session.
