Tupelo/Lee County UNCF Banquet raises money for students
The 24th Annual Tupelo Lee County UNCF Banquet was a success earlier this month. Since its inception, the group has raised more than $197,000 to benefit students attending UNCF schools. In addition to great music from the Rust College A’Cappella Choir, audience members were treated to an inspiring message from Juanita Sims Doty, an educator, entrepreneur, national public service leader who is chair of the Jackson, Miss.-based Juanita Sims Doty Foundation. Students share the Christmas story through great performances Rust College’s annual Christmas dinner took place in Shaw Hall Cafeteria on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Students, faculty and staff members gathered to enjoy a wonderful Christmas meal and music by the Rust College A’Cappella Choir. Mary Hicks, administrative assistant for public relations and alumni development, was surprised when President David L. Beckley recognized her for the 15 years she’s served Rust College. “Out of all 15 years I’ve never been that close to Dr. Beckley,” says Hicks who says she will place the gift, a beautiful glass bowl in her China cabinet at home. “It made me feel good to know that they appreciate me.”
