- Can you tell our readers a bit about your history, please?

“We founded Krähenfeld in 2012 as drunken Black Metal fans in our local Metal pub. Our intention was to express ourselves in a more emotional way than we could ever do in our other projects. At first it wasn't really planned to become a full-fledged band, more a kind of valve for our creativity. After a long time of finding our style, changes in the lineup and especially finding a worthy singer we started to become something you could call "a band" in 2016.In the latter part of that journey we finally gave our self the name Krähenfeld. With the first requests for concerts coming in 2017 we were kind of forced to define our band framework. Our music was presented first time to an audience and the positive feedback motivated us to press forward and produce our debut album Vergänglich which was released early 2018.Five years after our first gigs, having played across Germany and some surrounding countries, we are working hard on our new album.”

- Who is the current lineup of Krähenfeld?

“Our current lineup consists of its former founding members being Timo and Sebastian on guitars and Marius on the drums. Yannik who was the catalyst of our bands creation still holds the title of vocals of Krähenfeld. The only change in our Lineup since our official founding was Ben joining us early 2019 as our bassist. This change absolutely made sense not only because of our friendship but also as he supported us as a session bassist for quite some time.”

- What bands did you like growing up?

“Like most of the metal community we started with the typical bands like Iron Maiden, Kiss, Blind Guardian, etc. Growing up in our early teens we started to become more and more interested in darker and more sinister kinds of music. Extreme themes like darkness, hate, desolation and all kinds of human abysses became appealing. What interests us most is the sheer variety and art in the expression of Black Metal. Nowadays bands like Agrypnie, Der Weg einer Freiheit or Ellende but also the classics like Mayhem, Darkthrone and Lunar Aurora are often heard to inspire us in our creational process. To be fair we aren't only focused on Black Metal but instead listen to a range of genres like Gothic Rock, Thrash and Death Metal, Shoegaze and even forms of electronic music.”

- What are your lyrics about?

“The themes of our lyrics are speaking about melancholy and nihilism. We aren't very depressed guys but the bad moments and feelings take a big role in all of our lives. Sometimes you want to have fun and sometimes you want to escape from this being, to be alone with just your thoughts. And this is what Krähenfeld inspires to create its music. Maybe our lyrics are a kind of emotional process, something akin to self-therapy? To offer this process to the listener we like to write more metaphorical lyrics without great specifics and let them interpret his own thoughts into it.”

- What does Krähenfeld mean?

“We were looking for a name that mirrored both our personality and our style of music. Because our hometown Krefeld used to be spelled Krähenfeld back in the day we easily found a personal connection to the name. And if you have ever stood in a cornfield preferably during fall in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by only the howling wind and the sound of echoing crows, you can almost feel the melancholy flowing through you. And yes it sounds cringe as fuck but damn that just describes it best.”

- What can fans expect from your new album?

Those who heard or saw us before know what to expect from our next Album. Of course we are in a constant state of evolving our songwriting as we don't want to write the same songs over and over again. Our baseline of style is pretty much settled by now from which we don't want to differ a lot. But as already written above our music is deeply personal to us and we can't foresee the future of how we will feel. Therefore, nobody knows what our music will sound like, but it will be filled with depression and melancholy.”

- Are you planning a tour anywhere?

“Since Corona and its aftereffects it’s nearly impossible as a small underground band to organize a concert since most locations are constantly booked out. Of course we are always looking for opportunities to play live even more so in other countries or regions. Even when our lyrics are written solely in German our past experiences in other languages countries showed us that it's not necessarily a barrier.”

- Why does Black Metal get so overlooked by music magazines?

“In our experience especially Black Metal is represented in magazines. Of course the big magazines cover a wide variety of genres and festivals so every single genre has limited space. With that said most large bands didn't come out of the Black Metal culture except Behemoth, Watain ect… Maybe it’s our bias but we think that the darker Metal genres are well represented in its own magazines. Most people wouldn't know this because black metal is a very closed and introverted culture and that’s what we like about it. Let all other people read their magazines, we've got our owns!”

- Do you have a massage for our readers?

“We hope we see you folks live someday, until then: Stay negative.”
