Rut Cuenca Candel Arquitecta por la ETSAM-UPM donde también ha realizado cursos de doctorado en temas de sostenibilidad y el curso de experta en Cooperación para el Desarrollo del Hábitat en el tercer mundo en 2011. Sus intereses se dirigen a estudiar soluciones de habitabilidad para erradicar la infravivienda en zonas desfavorecidas y la regeneración urbana desde un enfoque multidisciplinar y participativo. Ha participado en programas de voluntariado con la Universidad de Nottingham, la Universidad Europea de Madrid y Arquitectos Sin Fronteras. Ha trabajado como arquitecta en diversos estudios en Madrid y en Londres donde reside desde el 2005. En paralelo a esto realiza labores docentes colaborando con diversas universidades. En la actualidad trabaja como docente en la Universidad de Oxford y reside en Londres desde donde colabora con Estudio SPN.

El paisaje que rodea los edificios también forma parte del proyecto. Colaboración con Zaha Hadid Architects como ‘Arquitecto Local’ • El proyecto consiste en estación de tren subterránea, centro comercial, edificio de oficinas y parque urbano en los terrenos liberados al soterrar las antiguas vías. • Jefe de equipo de arquitectura local y coordinación de instalaciones, estructuras y presupuesto. Desarrollo del proyecto en colaboración con ZHA desde el anteproyecto al proyecto de ejecución. A possible urban vision
OPPTA Competition was launched in 5 sites across South America under a common theme: to propose solutions at technical, territorial, infrastructural and architectural levels to places that had recently suffered natural disasters. In Colombia, the focus was ´how to manage the integral development in a territory affected by floods linked to climate change’. Our proposal is a holistic strategy to achieve the social, economic, environmental and urban development of the town based on participatory design and the use of bamboo as the key driver for regeneration.
CAF InternaƟonal Competition III Concurso de desarrollo urbano e inclusión social. 2nd Prize - Colombia with SPN and PEI (P. Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá) CAF is the LaƟn America Development Bank organizing the third internaƟonal compeƟƟon with the theme of urban development and social inclusion. The proposal is to reinforce the use of bamboo in the area from planƟng to a diversity of final products but the key in this case is to provide training and new skills to local community through a Escuela Taller (VocaƟonal School). This will create a sustainable cycle based on bamboo providing acƟvaƟon in local economy, social network and environmental cycles.

At the heart of Oxford’s historic centre, Gilbert Scott’s 1940 New Bodleian Library is a vital resource for academic research. The extensive refurbishment aims to convert the library into a new cultural and intellectual landmark by improving the research and reading facilities and introducing new exhibition and public areas. The idea is to play with contrasts of lightness and darkness, void and volume. New internal accomodation seems to float inside the new generous public area which permeates the building opening up to the street.

The Hauser Forum forms a new gateway to the campus and provides office and research facilities for small start up companies developing spinoff technology from other scientific research programmes within the University. It consists of three key elements – a seminar centre and incubator building, a research and development building and a large café space. The café offers a facility for academics and visitors from across the campus and encourages the exchange of ideas across disciplines. The image of the Forum as a place to meet and interact is reinforced by a large oversailing canopy which unites the building elements and shelters a public plaza below.

A new landmark for the citizens of Durango and a new symbol of Eusko Tren’s identity and expansion across Europe. The project is part of a masterplan that allows a substantial volume of development on the site. The strategy is to carve corners away for trees, step buildings down to the south and articulate rooftops. The outer edges of the development provide active framing to the streets and square with a punctured brick facade. The south facing courtyard is a continuation of the green of the allotments for residents and passers by on the train.In contrast the façade of the interior is a play of colour and light with balconies irregularly projecting into the communal garden.
