ABOUT THE POSITION Reporting to the director of Career Readiness & Experiential Education, the associate director is the lead staff member for developing and maintaining initiatives relating to experiential education and discovery. He/she will directly supervise a team that oversees experiential education initiatives (e.g., Rutgers Internship & Co-op Program course, internship search strategies course, Campus-toCareer Field Trips, promoting high-impact on-campus internships, externships, Bright Futures Internship Fund, etc.), career discovery initiatives, and resources for students within the still exploring career cluster. The incumbent will also work with various campus partners to convene various advisory councils, incorporate curricular-based initiatives, and launch a career readiness badging system.
30% - EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION:
The associate director will provide leadership for experiential education initiatives by assisting students in making meaning out of experiential education opportunities (e.g., internships/ co-ops, leadership, research, student employment, etc.). The associate director will infuse career readiness competencies into student programming that results in students making meaning of their experiences and being more internship and career-ready, as well as more connected to the work of University Career Services early in their college careers. The incumbent will create partnerships with the Office of Leadership and Experiential Learning, Aresty Research, the Student Employment Office, Study Abroad, Student Activities, and other relevant campus partners. The incumbent will develop and provide direction for an internship search strategies course and the Rutgers Internship and Co-op Program, including coordinating course offerings, application procedures, employer site visits when needed, and more. This will also include communicating regularly with the internship faculty and programs within departments and periodically scheduling in-service training sessions in the form of an Internship Council. The associate director will work with on-campus employers to convert their positions into high-impact internship opportunities. The associate director will deliver small and large group core programs associated with the Develop Your Skills phase of the career journey.

25% - DISCOVERY:
Explores opportunities to incorporate career exploration modules into academic courses and campus programs. He/she will also explore opportunities to enhance career development modules in the First-year Interest Group Seminars (FIGS) and will work directly with a program director to provide career presentations focused on self-discovery for FIGS. He/she will serve as the lead coordinator for student field trips to employer locations in consultation with the associate director for Employer Development. He/she provides leadership for all programs and initiatives relating to first and second-year students, particularly students within the still exploring career cluster, and coordinates and presents workshops and services including a comprehensive Peer Career Intern Program and Career.
20% – CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND INTEGRATION:
The associate director will develop career modules incorporated into academic courses and/or academic programs through partnerships with faculty. He/she will serve as a liaison to the SAS career exploration initiatives and other departments that offer career-related courses. The incumbent will also work to create a university-wide badging program to promote career development and the NACE core competencies to students.
20% – LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION:
The associate director will lead the Experiential Education & Discovery Team comprised of at least two full-time program directors and undergraduate/graduate student interns. He/she will prepare budgetary recommendations and monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditures. The incumbent also participates in strategic planning through the coordination and evaluation
of program policies and procedures. The incumbent will also serve as a member of the UCS Management Team. The associate director will also represent his/her team on the UCS programming committee co-chaired by the director of Career Readiness & Experiential Education and director of Career Communities & Transitions.
5% – MISCELLANEOUS:
Minimum of a master’s degree in counseling, higher education, human resources, or related field; a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience that shows understanding of career development and experiential education theories, curriculum development and integration, project management, and employer experience. Available for minimal travel; some evenings and weekends required. Requires a strong record of high-level performance and experience with diagnosing complex issues and solutions.

CAREER EXPLORATION AND SUCCESS:
We are committed to assisting students with making connections between their academic experience and career paths. We provide career-related counseling, resources, and programs to help individuals clarify academic and career goals, establish career plans, develop job-search skills, and make successful career transitions. We build relationships with alumni, employers, and graduate schools to optimize internship, job, and career opportunities while also creating strategic partnerships with campus departments to assist students in developing and articulating co-curricular experiences that will help to ensure they are competitive in their future pursuits. In spring 2013, an Operations & Strategic Initiatives unit was created to provide the necessary support for marketing, technology, assessment, and administration. In summer 2013, the office developed the career interest cluster approach to service delivery now emulated across the country. In spring 2017, the then University Career Services integrated with the First-year Interest Group Seminars (FIGS) department allowing the office to integrate career development into transition courses for first-year first-semester students. In summer 2019, the Chancellor announced that the office would now report directly to the Office of the Chancellor. The title of the office was changed from University Career Services to Career Exploration and Success to attract first-year and sophomore students further while reflecting the unit’s holistic approach to career development.
ONE UNIT AMONG FOUR This position is part of the Experiential Education and Discovery team, which is one of three teams within the Career Readiness & Experiential Education unit. The overall Office of Career Exploration & Success is comprised of four units each with a director: Career Readiness & Experiential Education, Career Communities & Transitions, Employer Connections & Engagement, and Operations & Strategic Initiatives.
