2017 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION January 16, 2017
Hosted by the Center for Global Services
WELCOME to the 2017 International Student Orientation
Dear Students, Welcome to Rutgers! We are delighted to bring you into the university family during this exciting time of international growth. In November 2016, we celebrated Rutgers’ 250th birthday, and we hope you will join us in reflecting on our achievements, both international and domestic, and in helping to build the academic foundation for ever greater success in the future. Your enrollment here at Rutgers is a big part of making that a reality.

Rutgers Centers for Global Advancement and International Affairs (GAIA Centers) are here to provide you with the assistance you need, when you need it. We invite you to make the most of your time while at Rutgers and participate in global conversations and activities through the exciting programs and opportunities we offer. The Center for Global Services at the GAIA Centers helps streamline your arrival and cultural adjustment—as we’ve done for thousands of international students and scholars who came before you—through advising services, immigration processing, and cross-cultural events and programs. Adjusting to a new country can take time. We work hard to ensure that while you’re at Rutgers and in the United States, you are comfortable in your surroundings. Consider joining us at social events hosted by the International Friendship Program (IFP) where you’ll create lifelong friendships with both domestic and international students. You can follow the IFP event schedule at facebook.com/RutgersIFP. Rutgers has been an international university since its founding as a Dutch seminary school in 1766. As our newest global citizens, we hope that you will watch our new TV series,
Rutgers Around the World, which covers our international connections and history, at bit.ly/RUAroundtheWorld. We want Rutgers to be your home away from home, a welcoming environment for you to learn and live comfortably. The GAIA Centers are here to make your stay at Rutgers a memorable one. We are always open to suggestions on how we can make the experience better for our international community, so feel free to contact us at info@global.rutgers.edu. Best wishes for the upcoming semester!
Professor Eric Garfunkel, Ph.D. Vice President for International and Global Affairs
