Ruth Eckerd Hall ANNUAL REPORT FISCAL YEAR 2020
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO On March 1, 2020, all indicators pointed to a banner year with strong
ticket sales, wider education reach, a beautiful expanded facility, and the on-track final phase of a capital campaign (to refurbish the auditorium and build endowment). Two weeks later, our doors closed
in cooperation with public health measures. By July our staff of 310 was reduced to 50 essential positions, each accepting a 20%-30% pay cut while we continued to provide critical health insurance for our
furloughed team members. Concerned for our community and the future, we felt our way.
Over the months, our “what” and “how” to serve changed but not the
quality, delivered with caring customer service. We offered online
experiences, limited reduced capacity concerts, and spaces repurposed into virtual labs to stream to our students. Moreover, we were honored
to join our resources with community initiatives by establishing a
drive-through site for food distribution, COVID-19 testing, and flu vaccinations.
The impact on our programs and services continues to be devastating
with a 93% drop in earned revenue and a 50% drop in contributions. In a landscape where arts organizations around the globe struggle to
survive, we are confident that while our wounds are deep, they will
heal. We are grateful to those partners who continue to financially
support us during this time. Clearly, their generosity comes from a commitment to our mission and its future. Susan M. Crockett President & CEO
