In West Africa, the sepow is a prominent symbol of justice and authority, denoting the executioner’s power and control over the individual who would be executed. A person wearing the sepow sign is considered to have endured numerous challenges and difficulties, which he has conquered with difficulty.

The Middle Passage is inscribed into the water with the use of land art. Creating a partial enclosement, rice murals commissioned by black artists glow telling stories of the past.

PRACTICAL TRAINING Tarang Pandhi Associates, Ahmedabad Semester 8 Professional Experience December 2019 - May 2020 The professional training gave a lot of exposure in terms of designing, modeling, budgeting, client interactions and finishing work in a specific timeline. My involvement in the firm varied from helping in the design to supervising the sites. I also had the opportunity to work with the clients directly and process their needs into the concepts.

VEDAANTA Vedic Institute and Research Centre, Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad Semester 9 Individual Design Studio July 2020 - November 2020 Instructors: Deval G., Parag M., Ratna S., Rajiv D. and Jayant G. Area: 16000 sqm. This was an independent design studio where the chosen project and site were complementing each other by focusing on going back to the roots. The core idea was to bring back the Vedic literature which is getting lost and merge it with the modern ways of education. It also focused on aspects like Yoga and Meditation which helps an individual to get connected within oneself.

SABARMATI ASHRAM, AHMEDABAD | CONCEPT SHEET

GANDHIAN ARCHITECTURE Gandhi condemned the western definition of Modernity. His idea of modernity was rooted on a self-realized individual. The Satyagraha Ashram and Sabarmati Ashram became Gandhi’s experimental ground to practice modernity. Gandhi’s idea od modernity was based on these factors: • Individuality • Hygiene • Movement • Locality • Opening up When asked to Gandhi about architecture, he said that. “Sometimes art lies in not interfering with nature’s unevenness and irregular curves and lines.” He was closely involved while building all his ashrams (selecting materials and fixing budget) and also taught himself various building crafts such as carpentry during his ashram life at Sabarmati.

AMSHUKAM Institute for Textile Labor, Malek Saban, Ahmedabad Semester 7 Urban Context Studio July 2019 - December 2019 Instructors: Ankit K. and Shefali S. Area: 136080 sqm. Group Members: Vatsal K., Payal M., Charuvadan D. and Lila P. Group Work: Surveying the site with it’s immediate context, framing a program and deriving a Master Plan of the site Individual Work: Designing and Planning the institution of the program considering the case studies The studio was conducted in a group where we were told to develop an existing urban context by taking the nearby fabric into consideration. The programs focused on residential, commercial and institutional aspects. As the proposed site was a mill land, the individual institution program highlighted the importance of the textile industries in addition to the women empowerment centre which would help to boost the economy.
