Anita has worked in Cromer since 1995 and has been a Matron for the past 13 years.

“I never thought I’d have won such as prestigious award; it makes me feel so proud I love doing my job as every day presents new challenges and I can count on the help of great colleagues,” she said

“During these years in Cromer I’ve been involved in many projects and saw the hospital developing But, most importantly, the feedback from patients is excellent They really appreciate the care they receive within our environment that, due to its relatively small size, is calm and helps developing interpersonal relationships quicker ”

Anita was nominated for the award by Julie Keeling, Senior Divisional Matron for Surgery The nomination said: “Anita is both committed and dedicated to patients and works tirelessly to ensure they receive the very best standards of care. In September 2021, a new cancer unit opened at Cromer Hospital, the North Norfolk Macmillan Centre

“Anita has been instrumental in getting the project off the ground, along with the support of many colleagues She worked with the Friends of Cromer Hospital to fundraise in her own time, outside of work

“In December 2021, we were asked to support the national vaccine booster campaign and under Anita’s direction and leadership the nursing team delivered up to 1,300 vaccines within three weeks

“She cancelled her leave during this period to support her colleagues and ensure the campaign ran smoothly and efficiently ”

312 Mate in twelve moves

Solution to No. 312:

313 Cedric Lytton Original for

313 Mate in 18 moves; White only moves his King

1. Rf2++ Ke3 2. Rf3++ Ke4 3. Re3++ Kd4

4 Re4++ Kd5 5 Rd4++ Kc5 6 Rd5++ Kc6

7 Rc5++ Kb6 8 Rc6++ Kb7 9 Rb6++ Ka7 10 Rb7++ Ka8 11 Ra7++ Kb8 12 Ra8 mate

Very easy (for one thing, the only moves to force Black’s replies), but readers will have had fun “kicking the black K upstairs”

In No 313, Black might say “Yes, you can promote your advanced Pawn and mate quickly, but just for fun I challenge you to do it moving just your King Actually, I calculate that you can do it in eighteen moves, by forcing me to capture your a-Pawn and then capturing mine to clear the a-file for a discovered mate from your Rook ”

This time, I offer a small prize for the first correct solution received by timed e-mail (lestershaw7@gmail com) or dropped through my front door (16 Lime Grove, Sheringham, NR26 8NX) So, friends, to your chessboards! Difficulty 2
