TABLE OF CONTENTS COLLAGE TO DEVELOP CONCEPT SERIES NO. 1 The Idea of Collage to Develop Concept, is a large part of the design process for myself. As Superstudio did with their Continuous Monument, we shall push the boundaries of abstraction via collage, in order to bring our ideas into reality
Pg. 3-8 Year: Various Semseters Type: Collage
MONTE DE PASCHI COMPETITION FOR PIAZZA MATTEOTTI SERIES NO. 2 A Recreation of the Monte De Paschi Competition in Siena, featuring architects like Peter Eisenmann, and Giancarlo de Carlo. The project revolved around site specificity, and it’s importance. As a group of 3, we proposed a restoration of historic Siena’s landscape to generate public space, as a Piazza, while also incorporating the modernity that the historic city is forced to embrace. A return to the countryside and it’s importance to the city was uncovered and was highly respected as the project progressed. What resulted was a historic excavation that does not neglect the historic icon of the city while also embracing the modernity of the times.
LPCCD “JAZZ VILLAGE” PROPOSAL Set in Newark, New Jersey, in a underappreciated part of the city, this project was meant to bring life back to the area via the branding of “Jazz Village”. following in the steps of “Teacher’s Village” which was recently implemented in Newark, our group was tasked with handling a large skyscraper among other mid to low-rise buildings over 3 seperate sites, 1 of which including a historic church facade. The result, was a relatively developer friendly project, across the street from Newark Symphony Hall, that would become a gateway, and an icon to repopulate and give purpose and activity to a neglected area of the city.
Pg. 9-12 Year: Summer 2019 Type: Public Space/Housing
SERIES NO. 3 Pg. 13-18 Year: Spring 2020 Type: Multi-use Housing
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CENTER IN NEWARK SERIES NO. 4 This project was based on the concept of creating form through the abstraction of patterns. My iteration specifically challenged the idea that four walls and roof do not necessarily make a room, via the use of thicker walls that housed storage space and programatic usage, I was able to pull together an early childhood education center, that used both this concept, and the use of tinted glass of varying opacities, to create several clashing spaces, that lacked the physical wall, but did not lose it’s sense of privacy.
BRICK BUILD DESIGN COMPETITION The NJIT annual Brick Build competition challenges young architects to use masonry to generate a folly that responds to an element of nature. This project is then picked and is physically built by the class at the end of the semester. My iteration focused on the siphoning of wind, via masonry. This wind cyclone effect is created thourgh smaller wind catcher towers that are based on ancient wind catcher designs, to allow wind to flow freely inside the structure.
Pg. 19-22 Year: Spring 2019 Type: Education Center
SERIES NO. 5 Pg. 23-24 Year: Spring 2018 Type: Brick Construction/Folly
FORM AS THE PRODUCT OF PERFORMANCE SERIES NO. 6 This project takes on the idea that wind through geometric shapes can produce form that can stop the natural force of wind in cities. Through rigourous testing via wind tunnel simulation programs we find that form generated from nature can perform the job of a wind breaking canopy over the street level. Effectively benefiting the comfort of people by eliminating what we call the “Wind Tunnel”
Pg. 25-30 Year: Fall 2019 Type: Research Based Proposal
