WHAT IS FLU? Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses, affecting nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk of serious flu complications. The best way to prevent flu is getting vaccination every year.


HOW FLU SPREADS? Flu is contagious and can spread from one person to another

up to 6 feet. The virus spreads mainly by droplets due to cough, sneeze, or talk. Period of contagiousness •

People with flu are most contagious in the first 3-4 days after their illness begins.

Some can infect others on the first day of illness and stays contagious up to 5 to 7 days after becoming sick.

People with weakened immune systems, might be able to infect others with flu viruses for an even longer time.
