Carbon Information

Carbon Information What is carbon purity?

What is ash content?

Rhino Filters offer one of the highest fixed carbon contents per gram of any carbon on the planet with up to 90% pure carbon in every gram, making it some of the purest carbon around. Every batch of carbon is tested, refined and graded specifically for Rhino Filters.

Ash content is the amount of ‘dead’ material left when carbon is produced. All carbon contains some ash but as it’s an inactive substance, less is better than more. Coconut fibre for example can contain up to 20% ash, meaning it can only ever be 80% effective. Our carbon – RC412 – contains only 3% ash.

What is activated carbon?

What makes carbon good for air filtration?

Carbon is activated by burning it in an oxygen-depleted atmosphere, similar to how wood smoulders in a stove when only a small amount of oxygen is present. In a kiln it is similar, but there is much less oxygen and the temperatures are much higher. When the carbon is exposed to these high temperatures in the presence of little oxygen and with excess steam, microscopic pores open up within the carbon. This creates a greater surface area and ‘charges’ the carbon with positive electrons. Our 100% virgin coal is activated in the largest carbon kiln in the southern hemisphere. Every batch of RC412 carbon is pure and consistent to the highest available standards. The end result is 24 carat carbon ASTM guaranteed.

Activated carbon is great for extracting organic compounds from the air. Carbon is porous and is constructed of many pores, the bigger the pore size the better the carbon will work. The carbon is positively charged which attracts the negatively charged ions in the organic compound (i.e. smells and gases). The organic compound basically sticks to the outer edge of the carbon and then over time it is absorbed into the centre of the carbon and locked there.

Did you know?

Why are Rhino Filters different to other brands? There is a common misconception that all filters are the same, they are not. Rhino Filters are unique as only we can use the best RC412 carbon from Australia.

If you placed enough of this carbon near computer or electrical equipment it would wipe all the data clear.

A filter is only as good as the carbon in it. Ours is the best. The link between the quality of the carbon and the performance of the filter is simple. The best carbon gives you the best filters that are more effective, perform better and last longer.

The coal used to produce Rhino RC412 activated carbon is mined in Western Australia. This coal is over 300 million years old and has very low sulphur and ash content. This makes this coal very special as it produces the purest carbon. The coal is then shipped direct to the largest carbon kiln in the southern hemisphere to be activated. The heating process exposes the coal to very high temperatures with very little oxygen. Steam is then introduced which opens up microscopic pores within the carbon structure. This gives it a greater surface area and charges it with positive electrons that attract airborne pollutants like a magnet. Every batch of carbon is tested, refined and graded and only carbon this pure is good enough for Rhino Filters.

Rhino Pro Rhino Filters are constructed from Australianmined RC412 carbon, the purest activated carbon in the world. It is then tightly packed and sealed into a high-efficiency airflow cylinder with a vortex cone in the base and a custom pore surface that is ultra-effective at scrubbing the air of pollutants. The high-porosity carbon and lightweight aluminium make the Rhino filter smaller and easier to handle. And because we only use the best carbon, they last longer than inferior filters too. Features of Rhino Pro Filters: 50mm bed of RC412 activated carbon. 1.6mm aluminium tops and bases for reduced weight. Unique “Anti Air Bypass” system. 51% open area custom mesh for greater air flow. Machine packed carbon means more carbon and less movement. Coned internal base for optimum air flow. Sealed, boxed and labelled directly after manufacture for optimum lifespan, handling and presentation. How long will a Rhino Pro Filter last? Unlike all other carbon filters with effective life spans of 9 to 18 months, Rhino Pro Filters can give outstanding performance for well over two years. Replacement carbon sleeves are available to make them last even longer. 6

Rhino Ducting To complement our high performance filters we have a range of professional quality ducting. We know there are lots of cheaper ducting products on the market, but to ensure maximum effectiveness we only supply quality ducting, manufactured to the highest standards for lasting reliability.

Silver Ducting A very strong aluminium ducting with a strong steel wire spiraled internal frame. Where noise is not an issue, this is a very cost effective solution. Manufactured to strict European regulations to meet all safety standards. Available in 5 and 10 metre lengths.

Combi Ducting A multi-ply aluminium and polyester laminated ducting with a strong steel wire spiraled internal frame. It is very strong and does not tear or rip. It is also fire retardant and manufactured to strict European regulations to meet all safety standards. Available in 10 metre lengths.

Acoustic Ducting Triple layered with insulation in the middle, this is the perfect ducting where noise is an issue. With excellent sound insulation properties, it dramatically reduces fan noise and the sound of air travelling through the ducting. Available in 5 and 10 metre lengths. 8

Systemair RVK Fans The RVK Fan series is designed for using in-line with ducting. The casing is manufactured from PA6 fibreglass reinforced plastic which gives the fan less leakage and a very strong outer casing. Humid room applications of the fan are possible due to the airtight casing and the IP44 rated terminal box. The fans have backward-curved blades and external rotor motors. The mounting clamp facilitates easy installation and removal, and prevents the transfer of vibration to the duct or the grow room. The fans can be speedcontrolled via a voltage controller. RVK Fans have integral thermal contacts with automatic reset. Speed-controllable Can be installed in any position Maintenance-free and reliable Integral thermal contacts Inclusive mounting bracket
