My Favorite Author: Wallace Delois Wattles (1860-1911) Pioneer Success Writer

Wallace Delois Wattles is perhaps one of my favorite authors. Anyone who considers themselves a student or believer in the law of attraction should absolutely have all of his works. Although his life is overshadowed in obscurity, he nevertheless was instrumental in reviving the law of attraction in early America, as well as a pioneer in establishing the “New Thought” school of Christianity. His most notable book is entitled “The Science of Getting Rich.” Wallace Delois Wattles published a number of books including Health Through New Thought and Fasting, The Science of Getting Rich, The Science of Being Great, The Science of Being Well, and a novel, Hellfire Harrison, but it is for his prosperity classic, The Science of Getting Rich that he is best acknowledged. Little is known about Wattles' life story. He was born in the USA shortly before the civil war, and underwent much failure in his earliest years. Later on in his life he took to analyzing the various faiths and philosophies of the world including those of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibnitz, Schopenhauer, Hegel, Swedenborg, Emerson, et al.. It was through his industrious work and experimentation that he chanced upon the truth of New Thought precepts and put them into practice in his own life. He set out to write books delineating these principles. He applied the formula of creative visualization and as his daughter Florence touches on, "He wrote almost constantly. It was then that he formed his mental picture. He saw himself as a successful writer, a personality of power, an advancing man, and he began to work toward the realization of this vision. He lived every page ... His life was truly the powerful life." Elizabeth Towne, in her magazine Nautilus, published the articles of Wallace D. Wattles in virtually every issue in the early 1900's and until his premature death in 1911. Here are selections from a letter written to Mrs.Towne by his daughter,

Florence, not long after his death. She writes: “My dear Mrs. Towne, Your letter of the 14th received . . . perhaps a little later I can write the romantic story of my Father's life and make it really worthwhile. You knew, didn't you, that he lost a good position in the Methodist Church because of his "heresy"? He met George D. Herron at a convention of reformers in Chicago in 1896 and caught Herron's social vision. I shall never forget the morning he came home. It was Christmas. Mother had put her last dollar into a cuff box and we had placed it beneath an evergreen branch which served for our Christmas tree and which we had illuminated with tallow candles and strung with popcorn. Finally Father came. With that beautiful smile he praised the tree, said the cuff box was just what he had been wanting - and took us all in his arms to tell us of the wonderful social message of Jesus, the message which he later embodied in "A New Christ." From that day until his death he worked unceasingly to realize the glorious vision of human brotherhood. For years his life was cursed by poverty and the fear of poverty. He was always scheming and planning to get for his family those things which make the abundant life possible. In the first chapter of "How to be a Genius" he says: "Man's greatest happiness is found in the bestowal of benefits on those he loves." The supreme faith of the man never left him; never for a moment did he lose confidence in the power of the master Intelligence to right every wrong and to give to every man and woman his or her share of the good things of life. When we came to Elwood (Indiana) three years ago, Father began a Sunday night lectureship inn Indianapolis. This was our only source of income. Later he began to write for Nautilus and to word out his own philosophy. He wrote almost constantly. Then it was that he formed his mental picture. He saw himself as a successful writer, a personality of power, an advancing man, and he began to work toward the realization of this vision . . . . He lived every page of "How to be a Genius." In the last three years he made lots of money, and had good health, except for his extreme frailty. I have written this hurriedly, but I think it will give you an idea of the life struggle of a great man - his failure and success. His life was truly THE POWERFUL LIFE, and surely we can say, at least in Elwood, "The name of him who loved his fellow men led all the rest." With all good wishes, I am, Very sincerely, FLORENCE A. WATTLES”

Wattles' best recognized book, The Science of Getting Rich is a down-to-earth, clear and practical guide. A mental and spiritual approach on how to become

rich. No bones about it, when you abide by the ideas demonstrated in this book, you too will become rich, without the feelings of guilt. As a matter of fact, the author writes that the impoverished (and even the middle class) should be the ones to feel guilty by not fulfilling their true potential as Thinking Beings. Wattles says his book is "Intended for the men and women whose most pressing need is for money; who wish to get rich first, and philosophise afterward. It is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a lot of theory. It is for those who have, so far, found neither the time, the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the study of metaphysics, but who want prosperous results and who are willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis for action. "Whatever may be said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich. You cannot rise to your greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless you have plenty of money. For to unfold your soul and to develop talent you must have many things to use, and you cannot have these things unless you have money with which to buy them."

Wattles died shortly after the 1910 issue of The Science of Getting Rich, but his books, along with those of another well-known prosperity writer of that time, Orison Swett Marden, have had a noteworthy effect on people, and much of the success and self-development literature of the past 100 years by the likes of Napolean Hill, Robert Schuller, Anthony Robbins, etc., owes a outstanding debt to these two authors. Other works by Wattle include: The Science Of Becoming Excellent and The Science Of Well Being. Together with The Science of Getting Rich, this trilogy covers health, wealth and happiness and how to attain these through the law of attraction. Take action now and own these titles plus five more at an amazing low price, for a limited time and while supplies last. The Science of Abundance Collection is an absolute "must have” for all students of the law of attraction.

Enlightenment Your Seven Day Plan to Positive Thinking I am sure you have a brilliant idea buried someplace in the back of your intellect that you just can not wait to test out. Naturally, you are not the only one with that bright thought. So, what incites you to churn those creative, or shall we say “enlivening,” juices to their maximum flavor in your own unique manner? It's always better to assemble a personal goal where you are able to achieve the most in record time, perhaps like mowing the lawn in an hour prior to the big game on television. A thoroughly correct and positive mental attitude in whatever you do will make things gentler and even more gratifying. Here are some hints to pull through the week – even if you are just sitting down in your favorite chair or quiet spot. An idea takes time to build in your brain, and it is forever at work while you are busy – and while you are sitting down. Having a little portion of positive thinking can help you understand things that are never believed to be conceivable. Thinking big is indeed the so-called “American Way” and that's what has made my country(the USA) in which I live thrive in success in this manner. 1. Consider passionate action, moving towards living your life more deliberately. Talk is cheap. Action = deposits in the bank of a passionately reliable time to come. Without it, passion is empty. This is a consummate example where aspirations are made concerning where you start – by messing around with your mind, then with your hands. And if the idea de-escalates, you are able to always return to it later on – until you complete it. 2. Dedicate yourself to all things, because those things you love to create for yourself strongly build a life you are able to love. Rather than reacting, commit to creating from your inner being, out of love instead of fear. The “American Dream” will always be there, but an aspiration will still be an aspiration without movement. Be astounded as the transformation commences and affirm that it has already begun. 3. Acknowledge and adopt the thought that each present moment is

complete and deliberate, irrespective of its result or current manifestation. Every time you arrive at something that may appear excessively extreme, why not give it a try and see if it will work out. You'll be surprised to see if there are not other techniques to get the task executed soon enough. If you're not delighted with the result, choose to use that bit of discovery you picked up to learn from and make the suitable, proper change. 4. Dwell entirely in a state of gratitude. Study to employ what you have in your hands and make the best of it in the most constructive manner. Falling into neediness will become less of a habit when you repeatedly change over towards gratitude – and away from the state of poverty awareness. 5. Use a passion process of “recognize/reassess/regenerate” in place of the “Shoulda/Woulda/Coulda” debacle. The first is founded in expanded knowledge and abundance as the latter concentrates on scarcity and deficiency. As you confront people or situations that may appear more difficult than scaling the pinnacle of the Himalayas, permit yourself to realize that the project at hand is just as significant as handing out orders to your subordinates. You would much rather be lavishly passionate – and we all know it! 6. Hold humor at the cutting edge of thought, poking fun at and with yourself whenever possible. You may notice yourself quite entertaining as you unwind! I have yet to see a comic ever go hungry, even though his laughs are as 'stale as great-grandma'. Life has so much to offer for you to allow yourself to mope in self commiseration. Wit is very magnetic, attracting, and really passionate: It is Simply Life-Giving. 7. Believe that you are the designer of your own destiny. No one can take your passionate future from you – except for you! Create your life genuinely. As long as there's still breathing space in your body, there is no end to how much you are able to execute in a lifespan. The concept of thinking big is all about relishing your work, which would lead you to celebrate a breakthrough that's born inside your hands. Keep an eye out for everything flowing into place with pure, passionate preciseness. It is concerning how people get wallowed up by something petty such as learning how to utilize a computer, when today the situation stands that top computer companies are cooking up software that even most of our children can operate them easily. I do not intend to be patronizing, but that's the idea of not possessing any positive thought in your life - you'll just wind up as a dim bulb in

a dark corner. So rather than subjugating yourself to what you will be destined for, make your way of life by taking the initiative with a positive attitude.

A Better You Your 7 day Program to Self-Improvement I seem to lost count on how many times I've read and heard of celebrity marriages failing almost left and right. Not that I care (and personally I don't), it seems strange that we often see movie and TV stars as flawless people, living the fairytale life of riches and glamor. I suppose we all have to stop sticking our heads in the clouds and face reality. There are many ways to lose your sense of self-esteem despite of how trivial it could get. But whatever happens, we should all try not to lose our own sense of self. So what does it take to be a cut above the rest? Here are some of the things you can think and improve on that should be enough for a week. 1. Know your purpose Are you wandering through life with little direction - hoping that you'll find happiness, health and prosperity? Identify your life purpose or mission statement and you will have your own unique compass that will lead you to your truth north every time. This may seem tricky at first when you see yourself to be in a tight or even dead end. But there's always that little loophole to turn things around and you can make a big difference to yourself. 2. Know your values What do you value most? Make a list of your top 5 values. Some examples are security, freedom, family, spiritual development, learning. As you set your goals for 2005 - check your goals against your values. If the goal doesn't align with any of your top five values - you may want to reconsider it or revise it. The number shouldn't discourage you, instead it should motivate you to do more than you can ever dreamed of. 3. Know your needs

Unmet needs can keep you from living authentically. Take care of yourself. Do you have a need to be acknowledged, to be right, to be in control, to be loved? There are so many people who lived their lives without realizing their dreams and most of them end up being stressed or even depressed for that matter. List your top four needs and get them met before it's too late! 4. Know your passions You know who you are and what you truly enjoy in life. Obstacles like doubt and lack of enthusiasm will only hinder you, but will not derail your chance to become the person you ought to be. Express yourself and honor the people who has inspired you to become the very person you wanted to be. 5. Live from the inside out Increase your awareness of your inner wisdom by regularly reflecting in silence. Commune with nature. Breathe deeply to quiet your distracted mind. For most of us city slickers it's hard to even find the peace and quiet we want even in our own home. In my case I often just sit in a dimly lit room and play some classical music. There's sound, yes, but music does soothe the savage beast. 6. Honor your strengths What are your positive traits? What special talents do you have? List three - if you get stuck, ask those closest to you to help identify these. Are you imaginative, witty, good with your hands? Find ways to express your authentic self through your strengths. You can increase your self-confidence when you can share what you know to others. 7. Serve others When you live authentically, you may find that you develop an interconnected sense of being. When you are true to who you are, living your purpose and giving of your talents to the world around you, you give back in service what you came to share with others -your spirit - your essence. The rewards for sharing your gift with those close to you is indeed rewarding, much more if it were to be the eyes of a stranger who can appreciate what you have done to them. Self-improvement is indeed one type of work that is worth it. It shouldn't always be within the confines of an office building, or maybe in the four corners of your own room. The difference lies within ourselves and how much we want to change for the better.

Have One Week, Will Relax Your 7 Day Program to Stress Management They say, “there is more than one way to skin a cat.” The same thing goes for when you begin pulling your hair out with all the frustration, heartache, anxiety, and yes, even stress. It is a state of mental disciplining similar to taking that acerbic pill down your throat, causing you to lose your sense of self, and even tougher, your temporary sanity. Just flirting with the idea of stress can drive anybody off the edge. And they say that the proactive ones are already living off the edge! As one stressed-out individual to another, I know how it seems, and believe me there are many forms when it concerns stress. Confronting life, and bearing the problems that may or may not belong to you can scar away the little joy and happiness that you are able to carry once you head out that door. You can't fault them for being like that; they have their own grounds, such like we have our grounds to permit stress to weigh us down. They say that stress is all in the mind, well, what's badgering you anyhow? There are many ways to cope with stress, and sooner or later get rid of it out of your life – one of these days. So, I will try to separate it into a seven-day course of action for you, and I assure it is not going to be too burdensome on the body, or on the mind. 1. Admit stress is good Nominate stress as your friend! Founded on the body's instinctive "fight or flight" reaction, that explosion of energy will heighten your carrying into action at the correct present moment. I have yet to see a top athlete altogether at ease before a big competition. Utilize stress with wisdom to push yourself that little bit stronger when it counts most. 2. Ward off stress sneezers Stressed people sneeze stress germs at random and before you know it, you're infected too! Protect yourself by discerning stress in others and restricting your contact with them. Or if you have got the leaning, play stress doctor and teach them how to better handle themselves.

3. Ascertain from the best When people around are falling behind their head, who keeps composure? What are they doing differently? What is their mental attitude? What language do they use? Are they prepared and experienced? Figure it out from afar or sit them down for a chat. Learn from the best stress handlers and replicate what they do. 4. Practice socially acceptable accented breathing This is something I have acquired from a gym teacher: you are able to play a trick on your body into slowing down by employing accented breathing. Inhale slowly for a count of 7 then exhale for a count of 11. Repeat the 7-11 breathing until your heart rate decelerates, your sweating palms dry off and matters begin to feel more normal. 5. Give distressing thoughts the red light It is conceivable to dishevel yourself up in a stress knot all by yourself. "If this comes about, then that might come about, then we are all up the creek!" Most of these things never come about, so why squander all that energy distressing needlessly? Give stress thought-trains the red light and halt them in their paths. All right, so it might fail - how plausible is that, and what can you do to prevent it? 6. Know your set off points and hotspots Demonstrations, interviews, meetings, giving difficult feedback, close deadlines…. My pulse is cranking up just writing these down! Make your own list of stress set off points or hotspots. Be particular. Is it only presentations to a certain audience that get you excited? Does one task cause more stress than another? Did you drink too much coffee? Recognizing what causes you stress is potent information, as you are able to take action to pull through less stressful. Do you need to learn some new skills? Do you need additional resources? Do you need to change over to decaf? 7. Burn the candle at one end

Lack of slumber, poor dieting and no exercise makes for mayhem on our body and mind. Rather obvious, but worth bringing up as it's frequently neglected as a stress management method. Take heed to your mother and do not burn the candle at both ends! So having stress can be a absolute drag, but that should not blockade us to notice the inner peace that we have wanted for a while. In any event, one could always go to the Bahamas and relish under the summer sunlight.
