With that aside, let's talk about domain names.

Domain Name Construction A domain name is made up of 3 parts • 1st level domain • 2nd level domain • 3rd level domain For example,

1st level

www

2nd level

.

yournamehere

3rd level

.

com

There are 3 main TLDs, or third level domains that you should be interested in obtaining at this time, for best results of your website:. • .com • .net • .org These 3 are the top, most recognized third level domains. They add a lot of credibility and professionalism to your site. There are others available, such as: • • • • • • • • •

.info .biz .me .ws .us .in .mobi .pro and many more

Of the above I listed, I only recommend you get a .info, .me, .ws, or .us, if you cannot find one of the top three I mentioned beforehand. Absolutely stay away – STAY AWAY – from .biz names. .biz names have been used for years by people who frequently use these domains for spam emails, spam blogs, and spam in general. Because of this, .biz names are virtually NEVER recognized or indexed in search engines, and emails with the .biz third level domain are blocked automatically as spam by most email clients. Don't waste your money or time with a .biz name – it will get you nowhere fast. All the rest of the 3rd level domains I mentioned are relatively new and expensive right now.

Selecting A Creative 2nd Level Domain and Domain Name Research For your second level domain, you want to pick the most creative, catchy, and shortest address that you can think up. For some people, it is simply their name, their business name, etc. However, if the domain name is taken already, you need to go back to the drawing board and think up a new one again. This can cause a mental blank and may cause you to give up! That's why I like http://www.domaintools.com. It's Absolutely Free And Very Helpful. DON'T REGISTER YOUR DOMAIN HERE – ITS TOO EXPENSIVE($35+/month) – JUST RESEARCH YOUR DOMAIN IDEAS HERE. This is actually a very good time saver, so I recommend you start right here. When you get to domain tools, you will see a screen like so:

Next, click on the tab that says “Suggestions:”

In the box directly under that, type the idea you're looking for – DO NOT enter a third level domain, just the second level domain. In our example here, we will say we want to register “4thbaptistchurch.” After entering that in the box it will tell us if its available or not:

In this case, 4thbaptistchurch is available – the way you can tell is that the legend is immediately to the right and looks like this:

The white circles tell us that all the 3rd level domain names are all available. If not, they would be filled in some kind of way. However, scroll down and look at all the other options you can choose from and the availability. It actually does a keyword search on your domain idea, and suggests other options if yours is not available – sometimes even better than your own idea. Check it out:

Registering Your Domain Name – Selecting Your Domain Name Registrar After you have found the domain name you want, you will need to register your domain name with a registrar in order for it to be functional. There are many registrars which many people deal with, but the top two are: 1. Register.com 2. Go Daddy

Which one should you go with? Well, I guess it is simply a matter of which one you want to go with, AND what you would like to pay per year for your domain name afterwards. Here is the basic difference between the two companies, both of which have excellent service, prices, and quality: Go Daddy has excellent prices on domain names, probably the lowest around. They beat everyone's prices by about $1.00-$1.50. However, after the first year is up, your domain can go up anywhere from $15-$35/per year. With Register.Com, it is only $9.99 per year and that is for as long as you own your domain name – it is locked in at that rate guaranteed so it won't go up ever. Plus, Register.Com gives you free business email along with your domain name – GoDaddy does not. You'd definitely save so much more going with Register.Com, plus you get the free business quality email service for free. It should also be noted that the Register.Com $9.99 special is available ONLY through the link below – it is not easily found on their website. Just choose any of the two options below to register your domain name by clicking either of the pictures:

Go Daddy - $7.49 for first year, $15.00+ each additional year

Register.com -- $9.99 for life plus free Email – A $50 Value It's up to you who you choose to go with, but in my opinion, I believe Register.Com to be the better deal when you do the math. Now, you're all registered and ready to go set up your website!

DNS Settings and Web Hosting You have completed the process of owning your own domain name, now you need to assign it to your hosting server. This is accomplished fairly easily in just a few steps. However, keep in mind that if your hosting company is different from the registrar, it can take up to 24-48 hours to completely transfer. All you need to do is assign your DNS location of the domain name to the hosting service. Keep these facts in mind before choosing ANY hosting company – PAID or FREE: Reputation – The three hosting companies I am about to tell you about I use myself and provide the best service and support. Just because it's free doesn't mean they'll help you. The free hosting company I am about to introduce you to in a minute is an exception to the rule – they are extremely helpful. If I was to rate these companies as far as service, it is a 3 way tie, but I would rate them like this: 1) Register.Com 2) Global Domains International

3) Free Webhost But again, it's a close tie. Out of the three, I think you should choose Free Web Host or Register.Com. Global Domains International is $10/mo a little too high. Of the two remaining, One is free, but one is not. So let's compare the two, shall we?

Free Webhost Let's take a look at what the free web hosting company offers you:

Now Let's Look At Register:

In all honesty, at face value, they look virtually identical, it is just that Register.Com is only $4.95 a month(that's virtually nothing). But where they differ in the slightest is exactly what makes the Register.Com deal a better deal. Take these things into consideration: 1) After all of your hard work building your website, if the hosting company suffers a crash, hosting companies are not required to back up your hard work – in other words, if they crash, you have to start over again. 2) The Free Webhosting backs your data up every thirty days. If anything happens between the thirty day period, it can only be restored to the last 30 days 3) Register.Com, however, offers 24/7 backup – so any update you do at any time is covered and can be restored in an instant. No need to start over or remember what you had updated in the last 30 days. 4) Also, with Register.Com, they give you a domain name for free, AND unlimited email for free, plus 24/7 toll-free customer support. The free webhosting does not. 5) The features that are jam packed into the Register.Com package are very comfortable vs. the free webhosting. What I mean by that is this: With the rapid advancements and developments of technology, Register.Com's package gives you ample enough space, bandwith, and efficiency to last

you a very long time – no need for upgrades or anything. 6) The Free Webhosting package is a little tighter. If they have need to upgrade their servers to accommodate for technology or merely new maintenance upgrades, your website will experience down time and only be backed up to the last 30 day point. 7) The Free Hosting will delete your site after the first 14 days if there is no activity on it; Register keeps your site online no matter what. While I believe you can do well with both hosting companies, again, Register.Com seems to be your best option –even just slightly – I think that where the areas in which they differ, you are more secure, more equipped, and better served for a long while to come in the future with Register.Com. Those things, to me, are the most important differences which MAKE THE DIFFERENCE to the success and continuity of your website. I suppose that's why one is free, and another is damn near close to free! As before, click your hosting option to begin setting up your website. And one other recommendation: The time to take action is now on these limited time offers, as they both can expire at any time
