Welcome to your artistic frontier!

I like to think that one day, an idea will pop into my head and inspire a design I want to create, even if it is not for school or any particular purpose, just for fun. I recognize this as an urge to create something, regardless of its significance. When not working on an assignment or project, I genuinely enjoy using my creativity to craft something unique that is special to me or has meaning for someone close to me.

In the past two years, I have immersed myself in the creative process of designing many mock-up logos for various clubs and organizations on campus. These logos are tailored to meet their specific needs and give them a fresh visual identity. My passion for digital art has also flourished during this time; I thrive in this medium much more than in traditional pen or pencil techniques. The vibrant colors and versatility of digital tools allow me to express my creativity in exciting new ways, enhancing my artistic skills and broadening my portfolio.

D-School Crash Course

Overview: A basic indroductory assingment in order to begin working collaborativley and engaging with someone on a fast paced assignment.

I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with a classmate; it is always refreshing to make new connections. Engaging in activities also proved to be a fantastic way to develop new friendships. The process of brainstorming ideas using classroom resources was both enjoyable and a substantial change compared to other college classes I've taken. Sharing my incomplete work was a departure from my usual practice of only presenting finished work.

The pace of the assignment was rapid and at times quite stressful, particularly when it came to constructing our models. Although good, the pace was a little too quick for my taste but good overall. Reflecting on the experience, I wish I had asked more refined questions to narrow down more practical ideas that could be expressed more clearly.

Dot-Line

Overview: This project empowers you to work creatively and freely with words and images. It moves at a rapid pace, crucial for achieving effective results under time constraints while ensuring the highest quality of your work. Quantity over quantity.

Dot-Line: The process of creating a project is one that I approach with meticulous diligence. I devote considerable time to perfecting every aspect of the project to guarantee a high-quality result. Although there were some minor craft issues in my three compositions, overall, they were of decent quality. One of the challenges I met was describing something with an idea rather than illustrating it. This proved to be difficult initially because my ability lies in illustrating ideas.

Through this experience, I gained a new perspective on abstraction, recognizing its simplicity in concept but also the difficulties it presents in practice. At times, abstraction can be limiting, but I found that it has reshaped my view of artistic expression. I am confident that the principles and skills developed during this project apply to everyday tasks. They allow for a quick yet endearing approach to assignments or opportunities of varying complexity, and I believe they will serve me well in future endeavors.

Letterforms

Overview: An essential aspect of graphic design is managing text. The styling of letters can significantly influence our understanding of their meaning. In this brief project, we will carve and print letters by hand to deepen our appreciation of how factors like negative space, particularly kerning and leading, shape our interpretation of words.

I discovered that using letterforms can enhance the visual appeal and add interest to the piece. Additionally, when created using ink and rollers, the finished product is charmingly rustic. In my word selection process, I tend to gravitate towards words that boast diverse letter forms, as this characteristic fosters a greater sense of creativity throughout the design phase.

Iterative Illustration

Overview: This assignment encourages you to explore your subject in depth by distilling and transforming its essence through various illustration styles. You’ll communicate your object uniquely and visually while thinking creatively and narrowing down ideas. Work in stages, experiment with materials and capture the essence of your chosen object or animal.

Throughout this project, I delved into an in-depth study of rhinoceroses, gaining valuable insights into their behavior, dietary habits, and other interesting characteristics. One of the primary challenges I met was mastering the "pop" feature in Photoshop. Due to my limited experience with this tool, it demanded a significant investment of time and effort. However, I found the process of creating a Keith Haring-style version to be immensely gratifying, as his distinctive and vibrant artistic approach resonates with me. Furthermore, this project equipped me with a plethora of invaluable shortcuts and tips in Photoshop, which I expect will help my future endeavors. Given added time, I would dedicate myself to refining my work, striving to elevate its quality even further.

PSA Poster

Overview: The PSA poster assignment is your chance to raise awareness about an important issue that matters to you. Use your creativity to design a clear and eyecatching poster that gets your message across. You will also be working in a team and being the designer for your partner and bringing their issue to life in a PSA poster.

At first the concept was challenging, mainly due to me thinking too hard. I made mine more simplistic, but it was received better by my partner as the font rather than the form of the text was more engaging. I used orientation to make a visual hierarchy, making the title larger and the facts smaller. Through trial and error, I learned to make things more simplistic for visual engagement.
