OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

MESSAGE I extend my warmest congratulations to the UP Alumni Association Greater Chicago for successfully organizing its Annual Dinner Dance and Fundraising event. Congratulations as well to tonight’s keynote speaker, Philippine Consul General in Chicago Generoso Calonge! On behalf of our UP Beloved, I wish to convey the University’s heartfelt gratitude to UPAAGC for tirelessly supporting our students through scholarships and worthwhile projects of our student organizations through grants, among many other forms of assistance. This year, the awarded grants to the College of Engineering Executive Organization of UP Los Baños and the UP Kabataang Pilosopo Tasyo of UP Diliman were able to successfully aid in the implementation of projects aimed at empowering Filipino high school students. Your assistance has allowed our Iskolar ng Bayan to be more effective in encouraging the development of critical and analytical thinking among our younger citizens. With your help, these organizations were better equipped to extensively promote their respective fields of study among the Filipino youth, allowing for the greater appreciation of science, engineering, and philosophy. "Why support UP? Because UP serves humanity." This declaration, as I have said in previous years, is indicative of your deep loyalty and unwavering belief in our University. It also shows your shared commitment with our country’s lone national university—to serve the Filipino nation and the rest of humanity. Our dear alumni, let me reiterate that you are UP’s strongest allies in achieving its purpose to perform its unique and distinctive leadership in higher education and development. For all that you have done and all that you continue to do for the love of UP and our country, we can never thank you enough. May you continue to embody the spirit of Alumni ng Bayan, para sa Bayan. Truly, you make UP proud. Mabuhay ang UPAAGC! Padayon, UP!

MESSAGE It was a great 2016 for all of us in UPAAGC! Together, we added more beautiful memories in the history of our beloved organization. I applaud the 2016 officers and members of the Board of Directors for channeling their efforts and resources to make my year of Presidency, truly a successful one! Thank you everyone! In the first quarter of this year, UPAAGC was out there joining other organizations in the Filipino American community at the Piyesta Pinoy sa Chicago. We networked with other Fil-Am groups, promoted UPAAGC’s projects, and reached out to fellow alumni to join us as new members. In the second and third quarters, UPAAGC co-sponsored the concert of Regine Velasquez presented at the Copernicus Theater in Chicago. We hosted our very own UP President Alfredo Pascual during his Chicago visit. He presented a report on Key Strategic Initiatives in UP. UPAAGC turned over to the UP President our 2015 donation of $5000 to benefit the UP Socialized Tuition System. UPAAGC successfully held the Annual Summer Picnic and Golf Outing Fundraiser. I would like to commend the incredible leadership of Olive Aliga, Chair of Socials Committee for organizing the picnic, and Dr. Norman Aliga and Mark Sianghio for organizing the golf outing, year after year. For the first time in the history of UPAAGC, we selected two UP student academic organizations to be this year’s recipients of our fundraising event’s proceeds. Each of the two organizations received grant money to help organize their alternative classroom projects. They are the UP Kabataang Pilosopo Tasyo from Diliman Campus, and the UP Civil Engineering Executive Organization from Los Banos Campus. As I end my leadership tonight, with this Dinner Dance and Induction Ball, I would like to congratulate each and every one of you who became partners of this year’s success! Let’s continue to support UPAAGC. Let’s be mindful that what we do here abroad, as an alumni group, always create a positive impact to our Alma Mater. Let the UP spirit of “giving back” always run our actions. And while we are here in America, let’s be reminded always of the lyrics of our University Hymn that goes, “… malayong lupain, amin mang marating, Di rin magbabago ang damdamin…” Thank you UP, thank you UPAAGC, and thank you everyone!
