When it comes to the ones with serious zeal for CHH and the Gospel Rap Community our cover artist Emcee N.I.C.E. quickly comes to mind. In this issue we share more about the Los Angeles native and our heart about him being nominated by Stellar Awards for not one, but two categories as both “artist” and “curator” for God’s House of Hip Hop (GH3) becoming the first CHH & Gospel Rap (Digital) Internet station. Plus the win... in its 34 year history Stellar’s had not acknowledged CHH (page 18). It’s been a long time coming to say the least. If you’re even a tiny bit CHH obsessed, this issue is especially for you. It’s jam-packed with new artists on the RYZE; and a snapshot into the world of Miz Tiffany (page 24), the first female emcee to perform for Stellar Gospel & RadioAwards who also garnered a nom for Rap Hip Hop Gospel CD of the Year. Four years ago, we launched a publication for an independent artist, to celebrate, uplift and affirm their gifts, testimonies and most of all their love for Christ. With a small but mighty crew, we collectively went on to build a brand that values the hip hop community, culture,
creativity, and lifestyle. I say all this to say we are constantly reminded of the responsibility we have to continue to build this legacy. There are many magazines, but none that cater specifically to the independent CHH & Gospel Rap Artistry with the passion our team approaches the work we do, and for the audience we serve. 2X STELLAR NOMINATED CHH & GOSPEL HIP-HOP ARTIST, AND CURATOR OF STELLAR AWARD WINNING GOD’S HOUSE OF HIP HOP (GH3), ON DASH RADIO Sitting down to talk all things Christian Hip Hop & Gospel Rap with industry trailblazer Emcee N.I.C.E., I’m keenly aware of the temperature toward the slowly supported genre(s) of music within the industry, yet the people have spoken. CHH & Gospel Rap stormed the ballot noms this year and N.I.C.E., born Aulsondro “Novelist” Hamilton seems to be on top of the game. It may seen as if the meteoric rise happened overnight, but N.I.C.E.’s trajectory has been on course for years. Pre-Stellar fans have seen his chameleonic constant state of change, and know the veteran Hip Hop artist, producer, writer and all-around creative, has been climbing a long and winding ladder of musical leadership that’s included collaborations with rap icons NAS and 2Pac (posthumously), a song in the Academy Award-winning film “Crash,” and a cover of a Prince song, enthusiastically approved by The Artist himself. Yet all along, the impact N.I.C.E. has been grinding hardest to achieve is a man uplifting love, optimism and Christian inspiration tailored to change the lives of urban youth.

Plus, as an author as well as co-creator of the urban animated series “Da Jammies,” the first black animated music series for kids on Netflix, N.I.C.E. knows no creative limits. His name as a performer was originally Novelist. Today, his acronym N.I.C.E. stands for Novelist Is Constantly Evolving. Emcee N.I.C.E. defines his 14-song album, as “a celebration of Christ with a blend of scripture and creative metaphors that give the listener spiritual food for thought.” The lead single, “I Got Angels,” soars on a sample of “Angels” by Gospel Hall of Famer Richard Smallwood who endorses N.I.C.E.’s song 100%, enthusing, “It will go places that I never could have envisioned…that’s just how God is.” Anchored by Sam Peezy’s Trap-inspired beat, N.I.C.E. kicks a bold opening statement, in a song assuring that no matter how hard the devil tries to sabotage us, angels keep us out of harm’s way. As amazing as the song, are the ways N.I.C.E. was able to muscle market it to chart-topping Billboard sales and airplay charts as the #1 Top Gospel Albums, #1 Gospel Album Sales, #1 Hot Single Sales, and #1 Digital Song Sales, https://soundcloud.com/emceenice/i-gotangels, and rise fast on fourteen other charts measuring independent albums, Christian songs, R&B/Hip Hop albums, and emerging and current artists, with independent ingenuity and digital, direct-to-consumer strategies. Cutting out the middle man, N.I.C.E. turned loose a digital street team that created an all-natural buzz - within online communities and among tastemakers - based solely on the music, sending his song to the top of the charts and bypassing streaming all the while stymieing the major label competition at large. 20

Another anomaly concerning N.I.C.E.’s PRAISE album is that he recorded all 14 songs (12 songs plus 2 remixes) in just two days, commanding the studio totally prepared and working diligently with music producers Sam Peezy, DJ Fat Jack, Richard Smallwood, Steven Ford and ULP Productionz, along with executive producers Frank DeRozan, Jack “De’Jon” Clark, BJ Luster and Tally. Off stage, N.I.C.E. secure in his career (has created several business entities that teach artist “how to’s), legacy (“I want people to say, ‘He made an impact’ ”) and heart (he’s paved the way for so many others). Unbeknownst to most, CCP literally created the CHH & Gospel Rap (Digital) Internet Station this year in response to the peoples votes. CHH & Gospel Rap music is now a category within the categories of Stellar nominations, and we salute you, as a leader and a comrade.
