A BRIEF INTRODUCTION The objective of this interface is to make digital illustration with a drawing tablet and computer paint program as seamless as possible. Wacom has already released a plethora of drawing tablets that allow digital illustration to mimic the traditional drawing experience as closely as possible. However, there are so many things that need to be manipulated on the drawing program (i.e. photoshop) itself, such as brush size, color, opacity, and layers, that get between creative conception and the final product. The Intuos Voice aims not to recreate an experience, but to unlock an entirely new one. With the use of voice control, users can bridge the gap between thought and execution of an action. No more traveling around the screen to manage tools or windows. No more memorizing keyboard shortcuts. With all that clutter out of the way, we invite users to discover their true potential and explore the things that really matter: quality, skill and creativity.

WHAT CAN I DO? 1. pen: the pen comes with a replacable nib, two buttons located on the body, and an eraser. contact between the nib and the drawing surface acts like a left click of the mouse, but in a more precise manner when dealing drawing tools for pressure, opacity, etc. The button closer to the nib acts like a left click and the one further from it acts like a right click. the eraser located at the end of the pen automatically switches to the eraser tool on the paint program. 2. switch voice control on and off with switch 3. turn tablet on and off with switch

VOICE HOW YOU WORK IT The tablet is built to recognize certain key words and combinations of words to perform actions. That way, users can speak to the tablet in a more utilitarian fashion or in a more colloquial one. For example, if one wants to add a layer, one can say the key phrase “new layer” or make it fancy by saying “I need a new layer” or “can I get a new layer?”. It doesn’t really matter; they all give the user a new layer. This also filters out any unwanted noise that may be going on around the user. At times, the voice control is somewhat dormant - especially when working in a noisy environment with many voices speaking at one time. To alert the tablet, the user should address it by saying “Tablet,” before each command. So undoing a mistake would sound like “Tablet, undo” just to be extra sure the commands are being recognized by the device.
command
command recognized
please repeat
command unrecognized
Users are alerted in the top left hand corner of their computer screens if their voice command was recognized by the device. If it is recognized, the command will appear in text on the upper left corner. If the command is unrecognized or the device is not sure if there was a command, “please repeat” will flash instead. For example, if the user wants to save the file and says “save”, the tablet will flash “save”. In the unfortunate case of someone talking uncomfortably nearby to the user and the tablet misconstrues the command, “please repeat” will flash.

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT The Intuos Voice is mainly geared towards drawing, therefore some photo editing functions of photoshop aren’t included. Perhaps Adobe could capitalize on this opportunity and use this technology to make a photo editing tablet that works specifically for Photoshop. The voice control aspect of this device could be adapted into tablet devices such as the iPad or the Surface as a complex drawing application with simple user interface. Wacom could adapt this technology to the Cintiq monitors which can be directly drawn on. This would eliminate the need for any wireless connectivity.
