HISTORICAL NOTES ON THE PROPERTY AND THE TONELLI FAMILY

VILLA PAOLINA: The oasis of peace where the Tonelli family spent their summers. The place where the villa is located is called "Ca di Totti" (translated as the home of the Totti family), the name "Villa Paolina" was given to the property in honor of Mrs. Paolina De Antonis, a Piedmontese noblewoman, mother of three daughters Maria , Bianca and Cleofe (Fefi) Tonelli and their son General Nicola. Bianca and Cleofe were teachers at the Florentine Poggio Reale College, where the princesses and daughters of the Italian nobility studied. Bianca also worked as a teacher in Libya in Italian colonialism in the 1930s. Two lions sculpted in Carrara marble have been placed in front of the fireplace. The propeller was fixed in the wall of the room, part of the plane with which General Nicola Tonelli flew over Tripoli. And he was the governor of that African city. The three daughters never married. They lived in Florence during the year, every April they came to Castiglione with their mother and returned to Florence in September, spending the summer in the mild Apennine climate.
