GENIUS IS NOT ENOUGH

OPPORTUNITY MAKES IT THROUGH

I ALWAYS START WITH THE SQUARE NO MATTER WHAT THE FUNCTION IS. LOUIS I KAHN

The architecture does not stop there where lies a building. It is a process of social and moral awarness of the space around us,on which we are going to operate and finally we are going to live.An idea of architecture willing to come to terms with the needs, tastes, opinins and trends of a society and a modern living, completely characterized by a social dynamism constantly evolving.Architecture as a social and technical formalization of the spaces of modern life.A complex architecture but by the simplicity of the contents ,where the form and function are only some of the essential features of a building, equal to more or less important concepts.

RESUME

HELLO, I am S.M. Shafaiet Mahmud now I am working with the Centre for inclusive Architecture and Urbanism (Ci+AU) , Brac University. I have worked as an intern architect at Volumezero Ltd. Prior to that I have been awarded by Aditya College of Architecture (ACA), Mumbai, India for the design competition “Inhabiting Nature” in 2018. I also attended IAB architecture jamboree on 2016. I have been coming up with innovative ideas & thoughts and to explore the boundaries of visual art and architecture. I have expertise in complex geometry and coding in Rhinoceros, Grasshopper and also participated in EVOLO skyscraper design competition in 2015. I attended in workshop arranged by Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh on “Safe Sanitation 2014” on that workshop I also got citation on “Community Toilet Design”. I have completed my graduation in 2018 in Bachelor of Architecture from American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). My final year thesis project was “Urban Remediation: Turning Landfill Site into Public Park”. The thesis project was about rejuvenating the Landfill: an urban cancer and transforming by healing with phytocapping into an urban park for the surrounding neighborhood. It was the top thesis project of the year and published in a reputed online architecture platform “Context BD”. In the big picture, the scope of the project involves re-thinking of the waste management system has a great impact on the infrastructure of any city on earth. From that point of view I proposed to the DSCC (Dhaka south city corporation) about designing ward basis prototype waste processing facilities all over Dhaka city and a waste resourcing center at the landfill by recycling them. Now, I am also researching and working for the implementation of the project with Khondoker Mithila an architect of DSCC (Dhaka South City Corporation). This will create opportunity to heal the existing dumping site and re-claim the lost urban open space (proposed on DAP 2015). In Ci+AU, I am working as a Design Associate. Now, I am working on the design of eight branch offices of BRAC and also Aarong Earth Design work. I am an associate member of Institute of Architects, Bangladesh ( IAB). 01

PROJECT BRIEF: In this project i applied the learning of Ergonomics from the previous project. At the beginning of the project, students analyzed an existing family residence located in dhaka city. Then the student designed a single-family residence for three person considering 1 differently able and a child A reference wall was given on a imaginary site to give a direction an using this wall exploring activity space was the main challenge.

LEVEL04 TERM 01 SPRING : 2015 DURATION 06 weeks : INDIVIDUAL_PROJECT

STUDIO GUIDES: .1 Arefin Ibrahim .2 Saimum Kabir .3 Faujia M.Rahman

PROJECT BRIEF: In Reent days there are so many flyover hasbeen build up in dhaka city and manytimes we see the underneath space of the flyover is taken by unauthorised vendor , shop , street people or build slum. So the design is to Rethinking or reusing the underneatch space . This site under kuril flyover is a very crucial site where maxi mum bus stops and maximum people from surrounding neighbourhood , NIKUNJA-1,NI KUNJA-2 , JOARSAHARA , KURIL. use this space as a trasit hub so i design a bus stop with some supporting functions like tea stall , flower shop, public toilet.

STUDIO GUIDES: .1 Prof. D. Jakiul Islam .2 Shuva Chowdhury .3 Khondoker Mithila

PROJECT BRIEF: TERRORISM is an act of unlawful violence and harm against civilians . On the 1st July 2016 Terror ist attack on the civilians of holey artisan bakery and lots of foreigner and bangladeshi died and it cath all the atten tion of the media that terror ism has started in bangla desh. after the terrorist attack the hley artisan bakery site became abandoned so there got an idea to design a “ PLATFORM FOR ANTI-TER RORISM“ which will work agains terrorist act and people can have the idea about terrorism and how it happened So then The platform against terrorism has emerged.

STUDIO GUIDES: .1 Ashik Vaskor .2Ajmeri Nusrat Shoma .3 Suraiya Farzana

PROJECT BRIEF: As major centers of social and economic importance across the world, sports facilities and recreational buildings need to be optimized to admit hundreds or thousands of people on a regular basis, as well as to meet the needs of whatever activity takes place in the facility. The site is on gulshan-2 adjacent to gulshan-2 wonderland park. the site is surrounded by residential and few commercial amenities so a community sports complex can be a better option for social meeting and excercise center for the neighbourhood .

PROJECT BRIEF: My Project Is About Waste Of Dhaka City And A site Where Maximum Waste OF Dhaka City Dump Everyday. The site is located in Demra at Matuail and Known as Matuail Sanitary Landfill. In the Myth of Development today 1/3rd of our natural resources have already gone ( FAO) . Dhaka City Has Ranked 2nd most Least Livable City In the World now it’s 1st . In Dhaka population growth rate is so high. As population grow higher waste rate also get higher. We have scarcity of, open space, agricultural land and recreational space but in the mean time if we see the condition of matual landfill we will see that waste management of Dhaka, are acquiring fresh land dump there waste , after then this land day by day got more and more toxicity and this toxin come to us with air water and other natural ways. And this type of land become abandon in the future because of it’s toxicity and unusable for heavy construction and vegetation. So there is a Gov. proposal under DSCC which is "Matual landfill post-closing and extension" so that's why I choose this project . And I proposed against on the DSCC proposal and My proposal is A waste treatment plant and a futuristic urban park

NATURE 2017_INHABITING NATURE BRIEF:

"The idea of using development as an engine to protect open space, strengthen communities, reduce auto-mobile use and even restore damaged ecosystems is an exciting one.... It will require a paradigm shift to move society 'from thinking the best it can do is to minimize negative impact, toward a view in which develop ment is seen as both contributing to the growth of healthy human communities while simultaneously restoring (not merely sustaining) the natural environ ment. '" “cities should be an extension of our natural environment. The health of biodi versity affects you. And what you do affects biodiversity. Everything we do either uses natural resources or returns them as waste.” The Competition invites the architectural fraternity of students and academics to Design an ‘Everyday Institution’ – ranging from built form and landscape to urban renewal and systems - that responds to the city, town or country it belongs to, where communities led by dreamers, rebels, wanderers and mad scientists within us, come together to rethink, inno vate and implement new ways of creating spaces and demonstrate a ground for experimentation for the future of commu nities that inhabit nature harmoniously.
