Hi! I am Maneet Singh, a second year industrial design student at RMIT University. An admirer of all things creative, I take pride in my meticulosity and the intricacy of my work. Since childhood I have been into fine arts, crafts and definitely not into studies. What sparks my interest is the way things labour, in a nutshell, breaking stuff and then creating some frankenstien object out of those broken pieces is how I really ended up in Industrial Designing. I strongly belive in expanding ones horizons in order to grow and keep adapting to the changing times as nobody can really predict what lies ahead unless you are god. Currently obsessing and exploring the field of UI/UX, Interactive systems and crime documentaries. IMAGE :Author

WHAT IS CORONAVIRUS? According to the world health organisation, COVID-19 is is a form of virus that spreads through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, this is where social distancing comes into play. To prevent and slow down transmission, protecting yourself and others from this infection is to wash your hands or to use an alcohol based rub frequently. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.
MILD
SEVERE
Most cases of Coronavirus are Mild and resemble the flu. 1 - Runny nose and dry cough 2 - Low grade fever
CRITICAL
3 - Inflammation causes the fluid to accumulate in the lungs as the immune system fights the viral infection.
6 - An outsized response to viral infection leads to sepsisand a dangerous drop in blood pressure known as a septic shock.
4 - Fluid in the lungs makes breathing more difficult.
7&8- Organs fail due to lack of oxygen, inflammation and septic shock.
5 - Blood oxygen levels fall below normal.
Usually people experience three stages/types of this novel virus, either Mild, Severe or Critical 1 Currently, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN VICTORIA DURING COVID AND MEASURES TAKEN
According to the PTV website, services, stops and stations are cleaned at frequent intervals daily to curb transmission of the virus, the website emphasises on the mandatory mask wearing rules and compulsary social distancing while travelling via public transport. Due to the stage 4 lockdown restrictions set into place for Melbourne and Metropolitan Melbourne, Various disruptions in services were also noted with suspended night services which run after midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. The PTV hubs at Geelong and Bendigo have been closed and Bus drivers no longer provide top-ups to customers boarding busses. On the bright side, more than 350 touchless hand sanitising stations across our busiest train stations, tram stops and bus terminals Victoria-wide, furthermore Off-peak train and tram services were increased from 13th July to ensure proper social distancing in each carriage plus to help people who need to travel for work, education or care duties stay safe and spread out. Below shown are the diagrams depicting strict distancing i.e. 1.5m distance between people along with no one sitting directly next to, behind, or diagnally across from another.

MEASURES TAKEN DURING OTHER PANDEMICS SARS or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome emerged in 2002 in China. Hong Kong, Singapore and China were the worst affected while Austraia just recorded total of 6 cases. Like the Covid-19 this virus also spread through infected respiratory droplets, As of 2020, there is no cure or protective vaccine for SARS that has been shown to be both safe and effective in humans, with this statement it really puts things into perspective for the novel coronavirus, whether we will be able to develop a vaccine or this simply becomes the new normal that all of us have to live with in the near future. The community response to SARS both in terms of attitude and behaviours can change the outcome of transmission dramatically, which can be compared to today’s situation too, despite having better technology today, we are strugging to contain this virus versus back in 2002 the way SARS was handled was phenominally better in terms of infectivity considering there were no touchscreen devices and smart application to track the virus however the severity of SARS is less than COVID but I believe situation could have been handled in a much better whaay will all the technology at hand.

QUESTIONS FOR FURTHER EXPLORATION • Comparing Covid and Sars pandemic and looking at the technological advancements in today’s date, the question arises that if we do pass through Covid, are we ready/prepared for another pandemic in the next decade or so taking today’s technology into account? • Considering all the restrictions and mandatory rules set in place, are they really senior citizen and disability friend, ironical part being they are the most susceptibe in this pandemic? • How exactly is Covid more severe that the previous acute respiratory viral pandemics we have faced before? • In developing countries, there are stories revolving around youtube that there are no beds available for even the most severe cases, in hospital, lack of ventilators as well as doctor’s attention for the patients - all suggests to the fact that is this really a battle for survival of the fittest or survival of a fellow with the most contacts? • Ethics Suggest we should solely focus on fighting this pandemic by whatever means necessary, At the cost of economy and people’s jobs? The State is such that if the virus doesn’t kill you, poverty, job loss and bankruptcy will.
