Summer Movies Of 2010
Now that it’s already December, it’s only a month until the new year so I wanted to look back at my 5 favorite summer flicks. To me summer is all about fun! So an ideal summer flick must include action, comedy, and suspense. This summer there was a lot of bigger, better and more in your face movies. With the new 3D technology we’ve finally found a way to feel like we’re a part of the film. So it was very difficult for me to choose only five. I thought what was important was the acting, the script, the plot, the directing, and action that can improve the story. Here are the results:
5. The Other Guys This film was a nice entry into the buddycop comedy genre, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. It follows the story of two down on their luck NYPD police detectives: Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) who would rather fill out paperwork then go on a case and Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) who accidentally shoots Derek Jeter at the World Series and gets demoted to nothing but a simple paper pusher. Known only as the “other guys”, Allen and Terry quiver under the shadow of famous detectives Danson (Dwayne Johnson) and Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson). When Allen is investigating a scaffolding permit violation by multi-billionaire David Ershon (Steve Coogan), Allen followed by Terry stumble upon a plot. Ershon is stealing the NYPD’s investments to cover his own company’s losses. Now it’s up to the other guys to blow this investigation wide open and save the day! What I liked about this movie was the chemistry between Ferrell and Wahlberg. They try so hard to make it look like they don’t like each other. And it works for us, we think they genuinely hate each other, but in truth the actors couldn’t be closer friends. The jokes in this movie were hilarious. I loved the jokes Ferrell did because they were funny, innocent and sometimes even intelligent. You will enjoy The Other Guys if you love having a good, fun, wholehearted time.
4. Get Him To The Greek This movie starring Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, and Sean Combs (a.k.a. P.Diddy) is about an intern at a music record label named Aaron Greene (Jonah Hill) whose job it is to get and accompany the famous rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) from London to the Greek Theater in Los Angeles for a 10th Anniversary concert. As they travel they are dogged by Aaron’s uptight boss, Sergio Roma (Sean Combs), who is chasing their behinds making sure nothing goes wrong! So you can guess this simple task quickly turns into a crazy, fun adventure for Aaron and Aldous. This movie, along with its laugh-out-loud funny jokes, had a great soundtrack with vocals by Russell Brand himself. This film had great leads; Jonah Hill and Russell Brand give fun, kooky performances that have no intention of slowing down at all. This movie is such a fun, hilarious, golden movie that will be enjoyed again and again.
3. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World A fun film from Edgar Wright, director of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead brings an interesting story of a 21-year-old named Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), a cool, calm and collected guy who is a bass guitarist for his band Sex Bob-omb. Pilgrim lives in downtown Toronto hanging with friends and making music, being the cool guy he is, but his charisma drains away when he meets Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), the girl of his dreams. He soon becomes obsessed with her and won’t leave her alone until she dates him. So once they start to date, Scott discovers that the only way to continue their relationship is to destroy her seven evil exes. This leads to a fun, action-packed and hilarious adventure. With its retro style feel to it Scott Pilgrim is fun, epic and so cool! The visual effects are awesome, the action so surreal, and a crazy cast of characters make this movie a solid summer smash!
2. Toy Story 3 With the third installment of the popular Toy Story series comes an intense amount of pressure to make a great film ranking with the first two, Toy Story 3 handles the pressure of critics and fans with class and dignity. I found this film funny, heartwarming, and beautifully animated. Andy has no time for toys and is negotiating on putting them in the attic. But by a simple misunderstanding they are sent to a daycare. This brings hope to Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Jesse (Joan Allen), and the gang that they will once again get played with. Daycare starts out as a dream come true but soon they find out what a nightmare it is. Soon the gang is on a mission to get back to Andy. This movie is action-packed, hysterically original, endearing and appealing to children and adults alike. A great voice cast lead by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, Toy Story 3 is a timeless classic.
1. Inception The best movie of summer 2010 was Inception. Christopher Nolan’s last summer smash was in 2008 with The Dark Knight, he returns in 2010 with this psychological action thriller. Dom Cobb (Leonardo Dicaprio) is the leader of a group whose job it is to enter the dreams of others and tamper with the mind. Dom Cobb is the extractor, Ariadne (Ellen Page) is the architect, Mallorie Cobb (Marion Cotillard) is the shade, Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is the point man, Eames (Tom Hardy) is the forger, Yusuf (Dileep Rao) is the chemist, and the mark is a man named Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy). Mr. Saito (Ken Watanabe), a wealthy businessman, has hired this team to enter Robert, his business rival’s mind, so they can convince him to end his corporation and its empire. But this certain job is so difficult that they must go in this psychological world into a 3rd dream in a dream (which is 4 dreams altogether). This task becomes even more daunting when Dom is haunted by his wife Mallorie Cobb in these dreams. And there’s the fact that if they don’t finish the task in time, they will be swept away into complete nothingness. The most amazing thing about this film is its plot, so detailed, so clever and the perfect amount of emotion and stability drive this film, and it works. As it should, Christopher Nolan has been working on this idea for nine years before its release. A great ensemble cast and visual effects, action that actually improves the plot and keeps it going. Inception is a masterpiece and a-shooing for Oscar gold!

Xiomara Yamileth
Gutierrez z-ee-oh-m-ah-r-ah Yam-e-leth Gu-ti(ee)er-ez Xiomara Yamileth Gutierrez. This is one of the schools sponsor children. She isn’t very well known at our school even though there is a picture of her on our bulletin board, but not everyone notices. Xiomara was born on September 13th 1997. Since her father left home when she was younger, she only has her mother, who was left to take on all of the responsibilities in caring and raising her family. Her mother is not educated and isn’t able to provide adequately for her family. Fortunately, Xiomara does have the privilege of going to school, and her favorite subject is mathematics. Xiomara lives in the small country of El Salvador, which is located in Central America. The capital of this country is San Salvador. Spain founded El Salvador in 1525, but became independent from Spain in 1821. The rainy season is May to October, leaving the dry season to November to April. El Salvador is also known as the land of volcanoes, and sometimes, destructive earthquakes will shake the land. For such a small country, the population is large, having approximately 7 185 218, in a space smaller then the state of Michigan. In El Salvador, 35.4% of people are children between the ages of 0-14, 39.3% are 15-64, and only a
small amount of people are 65 or older; 5.3%. The median age of El Salvador’s population is 23.9 years.
Interesting Facts:
El Salvador means The Savoir. El Salvador is the only country that has gotten in a war over a game of soccer. The opposing side was Honduras and it took place in June of 1969. The war might have had something to do with immigration from El Salvador, which was overflowing in population, to Honduras, but the real conflict started over a game of soccer. Salvador was playing Honduras in a soccer match where Salvador lost 1-0 and felt that they had been cheated. So they challenged Honduras to a rematch, this time Salvador won 3-0. After that game, man events of destruction lead to another, creating a war between the two countries. The war lasted only about 4 days, but still many people died over a game of soccer. El Salvador’s flag was adopted in 1910. The blue part of the flag represents unity, and the white represents peace. El Salvador has a total of 21 volcanoes.
Halo Reach
The campaign of Halo: Reach is quite plainly geared toward the player that has studied and more or less memorized the Undefeated narrative to this point. To be fair, even if you have no idea what the planet of Reach represents or the eventual importance of, say, Cortana’s role in the series, you can sympathize with characters on a mission destined to end in defeat (as the opening quite clearly foreshadows). Alex Harms Despite a finale that is nothing short of spectacular, the narrative exists as merely The day Halo Reach was released as a an excuse to run from one checkpoint to beta, it was a good day. Everyone who signed up for the beta was rewarded with the next. Gamer score is at least as powerful at least in terms of motivation. Given an amazing multiplayer experience, They that Halo: Reach is Bungie’s last go at the saw all the good and the bad in the new franchise, it makes sense that they would Halo and the good was definitely way want it to be devoted to the devoted, that better then the little glitches that would they wouldn’t turn the franchise upside later be tweaked. At least that’s what I down for the sake of some sort of attempt and 99% of Halo’s stuck players think. I at artist cred. Now, at least, we can watch have also seen a couple Halo haters saying that Reach was bleak and that Bungie with some intrigue as we see where Bungie heads next, not to mention where the took no time in creating the perks. When I saw this post I laughed. Bungie created Halo series might head without its longthe most amazing thing that a game could time developer.” The basis of his article is obvious, the reason that the Halo multihave. A jetpack, the singe most powerful player has been the same all the way up piece of technology that any player loves to use. And not only is it impressively fun to Halo: Reach is because of the audience. I believe that is true considering I am a to use but Bungie made plenty of cool definite player of the Halo franchise. I love places that only the jetpack could get to the way the multiplayer is set up and I making it interesting to find all those hot spots. That’s only one of the perks but the would be really frustrated with Bungie if others are quite impressive as well. I also they changed things that I didn’t agree read this great article by Mike Schiller. He with. So personally I’m glad that it is the talked about why Halo Reach still has the same. I think Halo Reach is an amazing game. And I also think it was a great way same type of multiplayer game play as to end the franchise. Halo 1 and up. He says quote “The problem is that it is the same devoted Halo audience responsible for this overwhelming sameness in multiplayer play that is responsible for the near-perfunctory nature of the narrative of Halo: Reach.
