Project: Time For Tea, Shoreditch 110 Shoreditch High St, London E1 6JN

My project is to re-design the interior of ‘ Time for Tea’. This building is situated on one of Shoreditch’s oldest roads ( Shoreditch High Street). The property is situated in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. This is a very affluent area, with a lot of modern design shown in the streets, and also portrayed by the building designs and interiors. The client I will be designing for is in his late 30’s, and is highly skilled as a 3D printing designer. As a modern, enthusiastic and work orientated person, it is crutial to design his new property specifically to his chosen standard.

This render shows the buildings first floor. In my design I have proposed an open space theme within the inside, so that my client has space for members of the public to view his work on show.

In this image, the ground floor is shown. I have proposed for the end of the space to contain some cabinets to showcase the clients work. I have included a feature wall on the east side of the room, which will be bare brick, to relate to the history of the building.

These images show the interior view of ‘Time For Tea’s new proposal. I have chosen the theme of white walls throughout, with a feature wall on the east side of the building, which will run throughout. The floor is covered with a dark laminate, which really gives the rooms a contemporary look.

Project: The Old Stables Hatfield House Hatfield Hertfordshire AL9 5NQ In my project, I will be redrawing, analysing and transforming the Old Palace at Hatfield House, which is a fifteen century building within the old town of Hatfield. The design process will focus on the conversion of the existing historical building into a public library. I have focused on the historical side of the building. It was formally a stables until it was restored by the 4th Marquess in 1915. I have proposed a first floor in the Main Hall, which is going to be shaped as a horse shoe. A surrounding glass rail will sit around the floor, which will act as protection for users.

This render shows a perspective view, with the first floor. I have designed a first floor in side the Main Hall, in the shape of a horse shoe, as this relates to the history of the hall being a stables. I have layed out the bookcases underneath the first floor, horrizontally to each other to represent how horses would have stood.

This image shows the west side of the hall, which I have proposed a study room ( pc area & quiet room). Also, a cafe’ has been proposed next to the study room, which has facilities such as coffee machines, microwaves, drinks machine, and a seating area for users to rest at. Opposite the rooms, I have allocated desk space for users to sit. There is also extra shelving space, which can also be used for book returns.

The design that I have chosen visualises all elements regarding the specification of the project. The concept behind the design is one that illustrates simplicity in all aspect of the exhibition. Based on the profession of our clients, I have decided to incorporate a kitchen feel into the exhibition space based on the theme illustrated on our client’s portfolio (food). The idea is to tell a story between the purchase of food, and storage of food within the home. Relating back to the theme, I have proposed a kitchen element (freestanding kitchen island), in which the table will act as a sink. Within the sink, the clients research images will be shown, positioned in a circular space, giving the illusion of a real life sink. (Eg: a sink with fruit & vegetables in). The idea of using the table allows a free flowing space within the exhibition. It also acts as an interactive space, which users can interact with each other. On the sides of the tables, a lamp will act as a kitchen tap. This gives the client the illusion that they are in a real life situation washing the fruit and vegetables.

The table comes flatpacked in a 3 piece set. This helps to transport the table, as it folds down easily. The table is made out of MDF wood, which is cost effective. The table can easily be assembled with the help of the magnet strips.
