Santla Devi Resort
01 ec(h)o(es) of doon. site : santla devi resort located in : dehradun, uttarakhand project type : final design project (function and space planning) typology : hospitality (eco-resort) Dehradun sightseeing is a celestial bliss to the travelers longing for serenity and tranquility. Dehradun, placed between the foot-hills of the Himalayas, Shivaliks, Ganges and Yamuna, is indeed a picturesque sight to relish on. Because of its size and better linkage to delhi and other towns in the region, it was declared as the capital of the region without extension of the existing urban area. Consequently the decision had impact on existing activities and infrastructure as well as the existing built-up areas. • • •
Various private companies have opened their branches in the city generating employment for many But the growing consumerism has also given rise to ugly chrome and glass buildings which are slowly eating away the beautiful old colonial bungalows of the city The increased traffic and power, water and other services are not just enough to serve all the residents of the city
PROPOSAL - To design a resort that brings the people living and visiting dehradun closer to the beauty of the place, for what it was known for it’s beautiful forests and scenic valleys. To use eco-design and the approach of biomimicry to come up with a space within the resort that acts as a converging point between built space and natural space. BIOMIMICRY - Biomimicry is an approach to innovation that seeks sustainable solutions to human challenges by emulating nature’s timetested patterns and strategies. The goal is to create products, processes, and policies—new ways of living—that are well-adapted to life on earth over the long haul.

The Khirki, named for the perforated windows, or khirkis, that decorate the upper floors, has four open courtyards that provide light and ventilation to the internal prayer spaces. Occupying an area of 87 square meters, the mosque is built on a raised platform with arched recessed openings (taikhana) that is 3 meters in height. meters. Unlike an open courtyard (hypostyle) congregational mosque, the Khirki Masjid is square in plan, subdivided into quarters; each quarter has its own inner courtyard. Internally, arcades running north-south divide the mosque space into aisles. These arcades are formed by 180 square structural columns and 60 pilasters. Proposal Located near Saket, the area around Khirki Mosque gathers people from all age groups and cultures.
