Brake Roller from Saar DasLagertechnik Kragarmregal
saar The new brake roller from Saar Lagertechnik The new brake roller from Saar Lagertechnik was developed using the latest plastics plus practical experience gained in the manufacture of mechanical transmissions during a period stretching over more than a decade. The new brake roller is intended for live storage racking where a maximum of 20 Euro-pallets per hour / per channel are moved, as well as for excessive use in Goods Out warehouses where up to 50 Euro-pallets per hour may be moved in every channel. A higher commissioning rate using pre-stored conveyor technique of up to 0.4m/s is also possible.
Requirements ? Life cycle. By using a special new plastic, the wear on the brake rollers has been practically reduced to
zero. ? Heat resistance of the brake linings. Even at temperatures of over 100째C the special plastic material does not lose its stability. ? Applications with pallet weights of 30kg to 1,250kg. The design of the gear unit allows a very steady start while simultaneously retaining a high braking capacity. ? Applications in ambient temperatures between -30째 and +50째. Compact design. Because the diameter of the roller is 80mm, the loading-bearing roller can also be ? used in narrow lines when unloading is done by pallet trucks. Breaking strength of the planetary gear is achieved by eliminating any notching effect when power is ? transferred in the gear unit. Best traction between the shaft tube and the gear unit. ? The braking roller is fitted firmly in the conveyor guaranteeing optimum contact with the pallet. The ? bearings have been selected to withstand the pressure caused by the heavy weights.

saar Design On the output side, the gear unit is set on two sets of bearings, at the rear the gear is also set on ball-races and not overhung. This means that the shaft will not be distorted or the ball-race twisted.
The counter bearing at the other end of the tube also consists of a DIN ball-race into which a 12mm diameter loading-bearing shaft is fitted. When calculating the dimensions of the shaft, it was very important to make it strong enough to accept any dynamic knocks caused by moving pallets.
The brake force in the first gear is transmitted by four planetary cogs so that even unusually heavy loads can be accommodated.

saar Brake shoe with a film of grease
brake plate
The brake shoes are lubricated with Molykote grease. The grease prevents blocking in the event of any abrupt braking caused by fast pallets. Brake shoes and plates are manufactured in a single piece. This allows the braking surface to cool quickly. The shoe is made of a special techno-polymer which is not sensitive to heat and very stable. The materials are therefore not subject to excessive wear caused by softening during braking operations.

saar Limit of the forming by compression
The positive lock between tube and gear unit is effected by four metal pins. The pins reach into the part of the tube that is not affected when the tube is pressed on to the gear unit.
The juncture between the driving shaft and the gear unit is formed by a clean dovetail connection. This connection avoids the shearing force which could be caused by other kinds of joints.
Juncture between driving shaft and gear unit
The width of the gear unit is very compact so that this brake roller can also be used in narrow lines of rollers, such as used for example when employing hand pallet trucks for unloading.
