A Humbled Celebration Saathee is 22
Welcome to Saathee’s 22nd anniversary edition. We began as a four-page, photo-copied publication in 1998 and have grown to the full color, glossy magazine you hold in your hand today. We have maneuvered many challenges including Y2K, 9/11, and the 2008-9 recession. This year we are all traversing through the biggest global health and economic crisis of our lifetimes. Most small as well as many large businesses are facing unprecedented financial challenges. We are celebrating our 22nd anniversary while gazing at our socially distanced workspaces, humbled by the Coronavirus crisis. We generate all our revenue from advertisers as we deliver this magazine to your homes and local retailers at no cost. In our noisy digital wastelands, print publications remain a relaxed place of undistracted reading, visual appeal and source of information. Magazines and newspapers still command high respect and trust from readers. The social media behemoths and news aggregators like Google, Apple and Facebook receive huge benefits from the work of actual news gatherers. These and other companies don’t do the hard work of reporting, fact checking and putting information together. They simply grab and aggregate the information and send it out into the world. Our work, the real work of community connections, continues on the human level. This May issue is labeled as May/June double issue. We are working so that we will be able to bring you a separate June issue, otherwise we will be back with an issue in July and continue to work to bring this valuable resource to you all on a monthly basis. We hope Saathee’s print edition and our popular website Saathee.com have been valuable sources of information and original writing. Producing Saathee is not a job to us, it is a passion. Let’s continue our journey together as a community. We wish everyone good health and glance toward some semblance of normalcy in the near future. Saathee.com
Can we open the window just a little bit?
Open the country softly, but carry a big bottle of sanitizer (apologies to Teddy Roosevelt). And, of course, wear a mask when outside your home and around other people. Debates are raging around the country on when to start opening the economy. All sides have a point in this debate and there are no easy answers. We can’t open things up and jump back into our pre-virus routines too quickly and possibly risk massive infections and forcing a second round of stay at home orders. We also can’t hide out in our homes for an indefinite period and watch the already decimated economy just melt away. Businesses and livelihoods that were built over years, even lifetimes, are teetering on bankruptcy and closures in a matter of weeks. There has to be a middle ground of common sense based on health experts’ suggestions and personal behavior, and do phased openings of different businesses with mitigation efforts that should now be second nature to all - wash hands, sanitize, wear a mask, and stay a few feet away. The prime consensus also is the need for nationwide testing, so we can get a handle on who exactly maybe infected, where in the country and work on control measures. This year is no longer about maximizing profitability for most small businesses. The next few months are about survival. How can we keep many small businesses, as well as many larger companies, from permanently shuttering while conducting business in a safer mode? The month of May presents small windows of opportunity, as some states loosen isolation measures. It needs to be a massively masked month, a habit like putting on seat belts, while we test the murky waters, crack open the windows a bit to let some fresh air of sanity swirl through the business world and our lives. continued on page 80

Subcontinental Divide An Indian Subcontinent & America Dialogue
Surviving Ourselves in a Solitary World
By Ahsen Jillani
When I first landed here in 1979, I quickly learned about loneliness and insecurity. I was 18, and the nearest person I knew was across the Atlantic. I purchased very little, because I felt like I was in transit and would soon go home. In my empty apartment, my closets lay bare and I still lived out of the big brown suitcase that my mother had helped me pack when I was leaving home in Pakistan for college 8000 miles away. Every night, I would pack up and zip up the suitcase and lie on the carpet next to it, waiting for something to happen, waiting for bad news from home, waiting for my parents to call me and say they missed me and I should return tonight. Those were desperate times when evenings became centuries and I met myself in a totally different state, clawing toward daylight, when I could at least ride the bus to college and just walk around amongst thousands of strangers. A few days ago, an old friend of mine called me and said she had called her kids and apologized to them. It was an odd thing but many weeks sitting in my home office looking out the window, I understood what she was saying. Sometimes, the worst demons are inside of us, and these life-changing times slowly lower a dismal mirror in front of our faces to battle with ourselves. Her point was that as a single mother, she had to spend years working, and also trying to finish graduate school, and seen her relationships with her kids slowly change. At the time, I didn’t have much insight into her feelings as a mother and a father to her kids. Over the next few days, I started thinking about my early days in America. By my second summer trip home, I had a girlfriend and was starting to distance myself from childhood in many ways. Thinking back, those are essential landmarks: parents, whether human or animal, reluctantly and sadly let their offspring slowly venture out, learn about the world, work, hunt, take those risks that pretty much define adulthood. Saathee.com
As time passed, I visited home less and less. I think both my parents and I felt a sort of detachment as I finished school and started working. I knew that they really didn’t love me any less. Parents cannot do that. In 2009, I was asleep on my mother’s bed trying to recover from jetlag, and when I opened my eyes, she was staring at me, lying a foot away in bed. We both knew she would be dead soon, but I had that immense hysteria go through my body like a shock. This was the woman in whose lap I would sleep as a kid while she was knitting sweaters and chit chatting. Yes, things change but they only adopt other faces and skins. We just adjust. Years out from my parents’ deaths, I love them no less, and miss them no less. I am maybe scabbed around the heart, as they also had to be, as I became an adult. My father was a warm and emotional person, but the last couple of visits, I noticed that he was starting to shut down. I knew that his silence was just a survival instinct. He was the type who would try to save the world, and maybe the entire world cannot be saved, so he narrowed his scope—maybe kids and grandkids, the domestic help and their families, a few former employees and students. He had a smile for everyone, but no more tears. I practically live in my office in this quarantine, plagued by anxiety and insomnia, overthinking everything and distracting myself with mundane and useless activities. My friend’s call finally made me think a bit more lucidly about whether I had become my father; and perhaps I had also become like her. After all, I spent my white-collar days going to happy hour daily with a bunch of friends, traveling up and down the coast, being romantic and buying flowers and gifts for the women in my life. I was emotionally available to everyone and enjoying being alive. I liked myself. But somewhere that ended due to personal circumstances and a bad economy, and I became a robot on 12 hour shifts in a production facility. I can’t say life went well for me, but I doubt it went well for my wife and kids either. Yes, I shut down, and I took that fatal turn from working to live to living to work. I’m old now and wonder what I was and what I have become. I wonder if I need to apologize to my family also. But in a practical sense, 95 percent of the planet probably had it tougher than me. I didn’t handle it well for many reasons. I didn’t make use of moments while waiting on long stretches of peace. The boat floated away from me, and now I float in the darkness and wonder if I should do a little more for the kids than calling them twice weekly and making sure they have food and if the cars are running okay. My wife and I meet occasionally in this large house and discuss plans for tomorrow and then go our own ways. Yes, I have seen myself in this solitary confinement, and my emotional baggage is always packed to take me toward a deeper journey of isolation.

Salman Khan and his brother Sohail Khan have been planning their next project together for two years now. Reportedly the huge film project is titled Sher Khan and is a Tarzaninspired jungle adventure featuring Salman Khan in a never-before action avatar with plenty of animals. Boosting Your Immunity Part II
By Parul Kharod
• Remedy for inflammatory conditions like arthritis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis - studies show that the highly bioavailable form of curcumin in fresh, raw turmeric is more effective than the antiinflammatory drugs available for rheumatoid arthritis. • Good source of iron • May protect against and slow down progression of multiple sclerosis • May help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. • Help relieve chronic digestive issues such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), colitis, Crohn’s disease, diarrhea, food poisoning; also reduces the itching and inflammation from hemorrhoids • Helps remove bad (LDL)cholesterol from the body • Prevents cancer cells from spreading and growing into tumors • Relieves inflammation of the air ways and prevents asthma.
Last month we talked about general immunity tips. This month let’s open the treasure chest we all have in our kitchen – our spice box! The spices we use in daily cooking have compounds that are known to have disease preventing and health promoting properties. All spices have various degrees of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. As we have learned, the coronavirus attacks the respiratory system. Here are a few spices and recipes that help with sore throat and cough and inflammation.
Turmeric (Haldi): Turmeric has the longest list of benefits. Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric. Research suggests that for better bioavailability or curcumin, it is best to consume black pepper with turmeric. • Helps lower blood glucose, triglyceride, fatty acid, cholesterol and liver fat • Help heal the pain, swelling and inflammation associated with ligament injuries • Aid in the treatment of bacterial and viral infections • Cleanses and nourishes the skin to retain its elasticity • Helps to aid the digestive tract to absorb nutrients and normalize metabolism • Helps with wound healing • Guards your stomach by destroying fungus, viruses and bacteria that can cause food poisoning, diarrhea and other diseases Saathee.com
Cayenne Pepper (Lal Mirch): • Capsaicin, the active ingredient found in cayenne peppers, helps lower inflammation and pain in joints and muscles continued on page 82

Mangoes Mango is the national fruit of India and Pakistan, and the national tree of Bangladesh. Mangoes have been cultivated in India for more than 4000 years. Beginning in the 16th century, mangoes were gradually distributed around the world, reaching the Americas in the 18th century. Major producers include India (estimated 60 percent of world’s mango crop), Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico. In the US, Florida, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii have small but locally important industries. In India, there are many varieties of mangoes used for everything from its sweet pulp to shakes, and making myriad regional pickles and chutneys. Buddhist monks are believed to have taken the mango with them on voyages to Malaya and eastern Asia in the 4th and 5th Centuries B.C. Mangoes are a rich source of vitamins A, C, and D. The fruit varies greatly in size and character. Its form is oval, round, heart-shaped, kidney-shaped, or long and slender. The smallest mangoes are no larger than plums, while others may weigh 4 - 5 pounds. The mango does not require any particular soil, but the finer varieties yield good crops only where there is a well-marked dry season to stimulate fruit production. The mango is inextricably connected with the folklore and religious ceremonies of India. The name mango is most likely derived from the Malayalam “manna,” which the Portuguese adopted as “manga” when they arrived in Kerala in late 15th century for the spice trade.
The importance of education today is undeniable. Are you prepared for what it costs? It takes planning to fund the cost of an education considering that between 2006-07 and 2016-17, published in-state tuition and fees at public four-year institutions increased at an average rate of 3.5% per year beyond inflation1. While tuition will be the largest expense, don't forget about these additional costs that may be incurred: Pre-College Costs • Standardized test fees • Test prep courses and materials • Campus visits • Moving costs Additional College Costs • Room & Board • Books & Supplies 1 College Board (Trends in Higher Education) 2017 • Transportation

USA Knowledge Blueberries Both wild (‘lowbush’) and cultivated (‘highbush’) blueberries are native to North America. The most common cultivated blueberry type is the Northern Highbush Blueberry. In the southeastern United States, Southern Highbush and “rabbiteye” blueberries are also commercially important. The United States produces over 40 percent of the world supply of Highbush blueberries. Canada is the leading producer of Lowbush blueberries. According to NC Blueberry Council, Lowbush blueberries were eaten by the indigenous peoples and early European settlers of North America. In the late 1800’s Elizabeth Colman White convinced her family to underwrite the research of Dr. Frederick A. Coville (US Dept of Agriculture). The collaboration resulted in the first hybrid, Highbush blueberry varieties. Lowbush blueberries are marketed as “wild” blueberries. Oregon and Washington are the top blueberry producing states in the US. North Carolina is the 7th largest producer of blueberries in the States. Blueberries have highest antioxidant value of any fruit. Blueberries have two cousins, the cranberry and the European bilberry. Bilberries look similar to the blueberry, but are smaller, darker colored, and have reddish-purple pulp versus the light green of the native North America blueberry. According to the NC Blueberry Council, do not wash them before freezing, or until you are ready to eat or cook with them. Washing blueberries prematurely makes them mushy.

packs of toilet paper at Costco Business Center. They were giving out one pack per member. Luckily my wife was with me. After I got them, I had to guard my unpaid toilet paper rolls sitting in my cart from the prying eyes of fellow shoppers. I was afraid if I turned my back, they would be gone. Because of the virus, fewer people are celebrating any special occasions, especially birthdays, anniversaries, and marriages. With the space confinement, in the near future, they will be celebrating childbirths and divorces. When people start shopping at Nordstrom bridal gift registry, the most popular items will be wine glasses, Instapot, and toilet paper. It would be a good time to have my oldest son married. We can invite all our friends and relatives to a destination wedding in Fiji. We will just need a picture of the ocean and the beach as a background for a Zoom party reception. Hand sanitizer was another item in demand. I made several trips to CVS, Walgreens and RiteAid. Every time I asked them if they have sanitizers, they would just laugh at me. Then they would show me a mini bottle that they would be guarding behind the counters as if they were some pack of expensive cigarettes. I started to get so desperate that when I was at a coffee shop and the barista asked, “How about a cup of cappuccino to go?” I said, “I can make that myself. How about a bottle of hand sanitizer to go?” Luckily, I was able to find three medium-size bottles at my nearby trusted 7-11 store at the regular price. They were even selling facemasks at the counter. I knew I could count on my fellow desis to help fulfill the critical needs of their customers while making a buck. That’s the Bania thinking! I have been watching the news and I am getting sick of the same stories of Coronavirus. I miss the days of police dog funerals and 4pm car chases. I am just looking for some excitement. Traffic reports are boring. No traffic either. Earlier this week, when I switched to the weather channel, it said there was a chance of rain. I said, “Yes! Finally, some variety!” The unfortunate part with the Coronavirus is that a lot of Asian people are being unfairly targeted because of racial prejudice. I have a bit in my stand-up that I am thinking of modifying to make it more current: “After 9-11, I used to say I am not a terrorist. I am Asian. Now I say I am not an Asian. I am a terrorist.” As I examine the empty streets of Los Angeles from my living room and reflect on my life during the last three weeks, it is beginning to feel like a house arrest. I am sure millions of people all over the planet feel the same way wondering how long this global prison sentence will last. The truth is nobody knows. Maybe destiny wanted to teach us a lesson. Maybe it wanted to remind us that we are all guilty of terrorism of what we have collectively done to Mother Nature. Or maybe Harvey Weinstein, after testing positive for Covid-19, planned it to get some company at the hospital! He is back in prison like the rest of us. Only time will tell. However, after introspection, reading the news, and talking to my friends, I have learned one lesson from this quarantine. The biggest challenge in the world is not poverty, hunger or a pandemic. It is to figure out how to be happy while doing nothing in solitude.
RAAJEEV’S CORNER Equally offensive to all
By Raajeev Aggerwhil .The
New Handshake
The world is going through a crisis because of the current pandemic. With the lockdown, our social norms have also changed. Namaste is the new hello and cough is the new fart. We used to cough to hide a fart, now we fart to hide a cough. When things get back to normal in a few weeks or months, people will continue to be cautious. It may very well be that handshakes will be gestures of the past. Namaste will not only be the new hello, but it will also be the new goodbye. Even businesses will have to rethink how they will interact with their customers. We might see signs outside stores: We have the right to refuse service to anyone who coughs. We welcome people with flatulence! Gun violence will also go down in the future. Bank robbers can just walk in and slip a note to the teller, “Give me all your money or I’ll cough.” The lockdown in Los Angeles does not feel as constrained as the curfews that my relatives and friends in India have to deal with. I have been able to take my dog, Turing, for walks. He is oblivious to the virus situation and continues to wag his tail and jump with excitement when he sees other dogs. I find it strange that dog owners and other pedestrians are not that happy and absorbed in their own world. Social distancing doesn’t mean social grumpiness. We can practice social distancing with a smile on our faces. It is free and will even make you feel better. Remember, you are not contagious at six feet but your smile is. My wife and I have also been practicing social distancing. It is helping our marriage. Actually, it is not new in our household. We have been practicing social distancing for over 15 years. That has been the secret of our successful marriage. We also practice meditation daily; I am sure that helps too. Social distancing could very well aid in hiding racism. In fact, racism might be one of the only beneficiaries of the coronavirus. Just when the world was getting too PC, a virus comes along to save the day. I can’t tell if white people are practicing social distancing or racism. I notice that they are keeping more than six feet away from me. Sometimes I see them from sixty feet and they are already crossing the road to avoid me. With the pandemic, there was a shortage of essential items, especially toilet paper. Vegan Malai Kofta
Saathee RECIPES
We’re back with another Saathee Recipe! This month we’re making Malai Kofta, another very popular Indian dish that may seem intimidating at first but is surprisingly simple. Our Saathee Chef, Taige Shukla, has also decided to put a healthy twist on the rich and savory meal, with a vegan recipe. If you aren’t familiar with Malai Kofta, it is made up of fried potato/paneer dumplings covered in a creamy, spiced tomato gravy. Malai literally translates to “creamy” and kofta translates to “spiced dumplings.” In order to create a healthier version of the dish we have decided to “veganize” it and bake the dumplings instead of frying them. We also find that replacing the paneer with something more accessible, such as firm tofu, helps in simplifying the recipe. Let’s get started.
Watch the recipe video at Saathee.com/Taige.
Ingredients For Kofta: 2-3 medium potatoes (peeled and halved) 1/2 lb. firm tofu ¼ cup corn starch 1 tbsp cilantro (chopped) ½ tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp garam masala 1 tsp salt ½ cup frozen peas Oil For Gravy: 2 garlic cloves (minced) ½ large yellow onion (chopped) 16 oz can tomatoes (diced) ¼ cup cashews ½ inch fresh ginger (minced) ½ tsp garam masala ½ tsp turmeric ¼-½ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to level of desired spice) Salt to taste ½ can coconut milk 1 tsp fenugreek seeds

Recipe serves 2-3 • Total Prep Time: 1 hour
Start by boiling 2-3 potatoes (10-15 minutes), then peel. Once you’re able to easily pierce the potatoes with a fork they are ready. Mash the potatoes and set aside.
Meanwhile, crumble the ½ lb. of tofu until it has the consistency of ricotta, combine with the mashed potatoes. Now mix in ¼ cup corn starch, 1 tbsp chopped cilantro, ½ tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp garam masala, 1 tsp salt, and ½ cup of frozen peas until fully combined.
Pre-heat oven to 425°F. Now form tofu mixture into round dumplings (aka koftas); each about 1 ½ inches wide. Spray each kofta with oil and place on baking sheet. Option: I placed my dumplings in a mini-muffin tin so that they would maintain a round-shape. Bake for 30-40 mins; flip dumplings halfway through to ensure an even bake.
Now start on the gravy. Sauté ½ large yellow onion (chopped), 16oz diced tomatoes, ¼ cup cashews, 2 garlic cloves (minced), ½ inch ginger (minced), ½ tsp garam masala, ½ tsp turmeric, ¼-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to level of desired spice), 1 tsp fenugreek seeds, and salt to taste. Cover and let simmer for 15 mins at medium heat.
After 15 mins add in ¼ can of coconut milk and blend mixture until creamy. Now it’s time to serve! Pour the tomato gravy over the prepared koftas and garnish with cilantro and reserved coconut milk. I recommend only using the gravy on what you plan on eating in one sitting (to avoid soggy koftas later).
Non-Vegan Option: Follow the above directions. For kofta simply replace the tofu with grated paneer and for the gravy replace coconut milk with heavy cream. For a homemade paneer recipe visit Saathee.com/Taige for an easy howto video.
Fried Kofta Option: If you choose to fry the kofta balls instead of baking them, simply heat enough oil in a pan so that the koftas can fully submerge, at medium-high heat. Fry until golden brown.

Reflections and a few confessions as an Indian American in the Carolinas
The Gift of Time
By Shyama Parui
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to healthcare professionals, first responders, grocery store employees and thousands of workers and volunteers on the front lines battling the coronavirus. This also includes caregivers in the family, neighbors who lend a helping hand and friends who ensure that we stay in lockdown mode with our sanity intact. It is because of you that my family and I are able to stay home safe and have hours to spare that would otherwise be spent running errands or to the children’s extracurricular activities, at the Pilates studio, or perhaps in trivial engagements. I write this with heartfelt gratitude, and I hope that we, as a society can reciprocate the kindness our heroes have shown. “Plunged into darkness by a sudden loss of electricity! Disconnected from modern appliances! These are some of your fondest memories from childhood?”, my children asked in disbelief. At first, they thought it was bizarre, but understand it better after the COVID -19 scenario. So, what was so memorable about losing power? Ah, the joys of reminiscing…. Residents of Mumbai were lucky to have adequate power supply and periodic load shedding was unheard of. However, every now and then, maybe once or twice a year, there would be an abrupt loss of electricity. If you were a school kid doing homework on a late evening, what a lovely excuse to close your books. The opportunity to play Carrom with your friend next door would literally knock on your door. Teenagers and their parents would vehemently complain about missing their favorite Doordarshan show. Before you roll your eyes, it’s worth noting that I am talking about the pre-internet, pre-DVR days which to some might sound like the Dark Ages. Even on the most popular television shows, the story line moved at a snail’s pace and rather predictably. Nevertheless, friends would have lengthy phone calls to speculate on the fate of key characters in the next episode of “Hum Log” or “Fauji”. Thank heavens for good ol’ landline telephones. Candlelight dinners, neighborhood gossip sessions, and general activity increased in Saathee.com
those moments. The sudden arrival of unstructured time released our creativity from its temporary state of dormancy. The news of the Corona virus, which seemed distant in January, creeped in swiftly to take over our lives in a way we never expected. We sat home, for a week, then two, and soon it was close to a month making us squirm. In this unprecedented situation I found myself counting my blessings and simultaneously seeking solace from the barrage of information. Among many little things, my husband was glad he could get a timely haircut before salons pulled down the shutters and I was immensely relieved that we had not planned any trips during spring break. Much to my delight, in the past month I realized that my teenaged kids still love to hug me, and in a moment of weakness I discovered that ice cream can cure boredom. The oft used corporate phrase, “every problem is an opportunity in disguise” used to make me cringe but now it seems to ring a soft bell. For a family that is constantly on the go, North Carolina’s “stay at home order” gave us the rare chance to relax and spend our days at an unhurried pace. With a break from tight schedules, we could catch up on activities that had previously slid off the priority list. The Honey Do list has made a re-appearance, too. Additionally, our collective experience through social distancing has been more educational than online lessons. We learned to adapt, practice new technology, navigate through our emotions, and we were humbled by our lack of control. Expert instruction at expensive leadership retreats cannot match the spontaneous training we continued on page 94

Thinking About Thinking By Balaji Prasad
don’t let Known Get Blown to unknown
“Every correct answer is necessarily a secret: something important and unknown, something hard to do but doable.” - Peter Thiel
The nice thing about the unknown is that it can be whatever you want it to be. It can be molded into different shapes, sizes and colors because it is whatever you want it to be: a thin, wispy fabric that you can caress and play with, letting your fingers run through it, as you twist and turn it to suit your taste. You may get frightened by the unknown, or you may fall hopelessly in love, and get inextricably entangled with it. However, it is not the unknown itself that is the cause of all these feelings. It is you. And it is the creative images that you paint into the undefined part of life’s canvas.
The hopeless romantic You’ve got a new job, or you’ve met the girl of your dreams. You’re excited! They were really really nice. They seemed to really value you for who they think you are. This is where you are going to come into your own, be all that you can be, get all the rewards and reverence that you have always deserved, and that you’ve been searching for, for all this time. Because your circumstances were such, and the people you had so far were such. But this new thing – this new thing is going to be fabulous. It is going to be awesome! There are so many good things about it. But could there be trouble brewing in your paradise?
Error: divide by zero encountered Computer programmers understand the “divide by zero” phenomenon well. When the denominator in a fraction somehow gets set to zero, the computer balks. The machine is smart and it knows that it cannot handle a calculation of such magnitude; it is acutely aware of the limits of its capacity because some smart human has taken the time to inform the computer about itself. Human beings are not as easy to teach though. Divide-byzero errors are common, causing human computers to go into endless tailspins, trying to crank out calculations well beyond their capacity. When does a divide-by-zero problem occur for human beings? When the unknown (the numerator) is very large, and the known (the denominator) is zero. But how can what you know be zero!? Surely, you know something about the thing, whatever the thing is. So, in our example, wouldn’t the excited young man know something about “the one and only one”, and about the field of what’s out there, and life in general including some of the gotchas and the gold? Sure, but the thing is it doesn’t matter what he knows, if his imagination gives him wings and takes him on a fantasy-filled magic-carpet ride, leaving behind what he knows on the ground. So in our divide-by-zero problem, the denominator (the known) goes to zero, since there are no knowns to speak of. And the numerator (the unknown) is very large, because that is the very definition of the “unknown”: it can be anything at all. But all is well, for now, for our little human computer. At least, it seems that way. Saathee.com
54
A computer can’t program itself! All is well, because the human sitting inside the computer is not aware of what has happened to the denominator (it’s gone), and what, to the numerator – it has been replaced by the product of imagination. So the numerator seems smaller than it really is, while the denominator seems larger than it is at the moment. Only someone outside you can see your imagination running riot, and the knowledge inside you that lays untapped. It needs an outside voice to yell out to warn you when you’re about to do an unwitting divide by zero. The trouble with someone outside you is that you don’t trust most of the people who live outside your little human computer to be truthful, and to know enough about you. And so you plug your ears, ignore these noisy “miscreants”, and go on your merry way doing a dangerous divide by zero. Actually, it is not really “merry”, because divides by zero are not fun when they happen. They burn up your circuits, producing lots of heat and discomfort. You begin to realize a bit too late that the calculation that seemed so simple is now producing “unforeseen” effects that are detrimental to your well-being, and that there is no easy way to back away from the whole thing. Because, in many of the really important things in life, there is no undo-button! Because there is no undo-button, you need a yeller – or two – on the outside. If you have someone that you can trust, listen to that yeller feller, before your wild imagination and your hopeless romanticism causes you to do a divide by zero! Trust me, the pain can be bad. Really bad! The unknown can be beautiful, if you respect it and are willing to see its mysteriousness, even if you have to be led by the nose by that yeller feller so that you see it. Maybe you can reclaim the denominator that you lost, and strip out your imagination from the numerator. Then you can begin the hard work of figuring out whatever you can of the numerator – you can at least work on the known unknowns, research them and get a sense for them. It could still be a large fraction, but at least it won’t be a divide-by-zero. Happy computing!

lives. He directed that after they pass away, the property be given to their children. This created a “life estate” for the daughter and her husband. Franklin also left instructions as to how the property should be handled if any of his grandchildren should pass away before their parents and what should be done if any of the grandchildren were still minors when their parents pass away. He also gave his property around Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to his son, even though his son was not very loyal to him and he worked for the British forces when the fight for the Independence was happening. But what comes next is the most important thing to remember. In his will, he bequeathed 1000 pounds sterling each to the cities of Boston and Philadelphia, worth roughly $119,000 in 2019 dollars with the instructions that much of the money remains untouched for 100 years and the rest untouched for 200 years. His attachment to the cities was clear; he was born and brought up in one and he ran successful businesses in the other from his young age. The money could be used to lend at 5 percent annual interest rate to help apprentices under the age 25 to start businesses. Remember, that is exactly what he had done himself; of course, he did not have anyone lending him money and he had to struggle through it all. He calculated in his will that if this plan is executed and succeeds as projected without interruptions for one hundred years the sum will be then equivalent to $15.6 million of today’s dollars. We will not worry about the numbers he had projected because I wish to focus on his estate planning ideas. The managers of each city, he wrote, would be permitted to spend a fraction of that for public works and the remaining to be continued to be loaned to up and coming apprentices like carpenters, shoemakers, bakers, tailors, blacksmiths and clockmakers. At the end of the 200 years which will bring us to 1990 (he died in 1790), he instructed that some funds to be distributed to the inhabitants of Boston and Philadelphia and rest to the two states for their use as they wished. In 1990 the two trusts were terminated as stipulated by Franklin. No one before or since has set aside funds and money for 100 and 200 years, and with such great details as to how he wished his funds to be disposed. It is his vision (all for the country and its people) his planning and attention to details that need to be admired. I have mentioned in these articles about the power of compounding a few times and here is a glaring example of how it was used in his will by none other than one of our Founding Fathers.
Benjamin franklin as Estate Planning Expert There is much to learn from him
Most of us know Benjamin Franklin as one of the country’s Founding Fathers, in fact he was the most balanced minded, innovative and forward-looking leader amongst them. But those are all well-known facts, we learn about them in school at one time or the other. If not, I strongly believe that they should because there is much to learn from his life and we should all emulate him as much as possible. Some of the wise and witty sayings that we hear, use and follow are coming from him; maxims such as “God helps those who help themselves” or “Early to bed, early to rise make a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” There are over 60 such maxims associated with him and they are all very unique. There is a nice museum in Philadelphia (and Boston too) which is dedicated to him and his rich life and most of the articles and books written about him use that as a reference. Born in January 1706 to an immigrant family from England, the youngest of 14 siblings, he grew up in a very crowded house in Boston. At a young age he ran away from home and started working for his brother as a printer in Philadelphia and then as a publisher where he learned much and he was already beginning to show by then many of his leadership and entrepreneur’s skills. He became Postmaster of Philadelphia in 1737. By now his scientific curiosity started showing too. Ben was curious about all manners of things and he loved to tinker. Swim fins, properly ventilated heating furnace and fireplace, odometer, bifocals (called double focals at the time), writing an Almanac, and paper currency were just a few of his inventions and we know all about his experiments with static electricity. Franklin, along with Jefferson, Adams, Sherman and Livingston drafted the Declaration of Independence. My focus here though is on his skillful handling of his large estate and his estate planning ideas. To be sure when he started in business, he was downright poor and had very little to show for. By working hard, innovating, persevering and struggling in his business deals, he eventually became one of young America’s wealthiest and most respected citizens. I also might add he knew a thing or two about math and the compounding of interest. We will touch on it later. For those who are curious, a version of Benjamin Franklin’s last Will and Testament is available online from the Franklin Institute. Included is a codicil to the original will that should perk anybody’s interest. Franklin had become one of the wealthiest persons in the Union at the time which is evidenced by the number of homes, land and the valuables he details in his will. Franklin left his property in and around Philadelphia to his daughter and her husband for the remainder of their Saathee.com

Dances of India By Dr. Maha Gingrich
Health Benefits of Classical dances during This Pandemic
As we all manage the stress of COVID-19 Pandemic along with the new norms that are imposed on us to stay safe, I had to reflect on how to stay positive and healthy. The greatest gift that was ever given to me by my father and the great gurus is the gift of classical dances. As I pondered on this subject, so many thoughts and benefits of these classical dance forms came to my mind. They were invented thousands of years ago with our body, mind and soul as the central focus. I want to share a few of the psychosomatic benefits.
required position while using the subtle movements of wrists and arms. While I am working at the computer, I do these hand gestures and the stress is removed instantly. Why not learn something new and have fun with it? If you are interested in learning, email me directly. I will be glad to share my videos with you for free.
Benefits of Eye Movements: As we all know staring at a computer screen all day or watching TV for extended periods of time can cause eye strain and may create vision issues. In classical dances we have Drishti-Bhedas, which means different ways of glancing. We have eight classifications of glances. However, for everyone including non-dancers, I suggest the following: 1. Alokitam: Swiftly turning the eyes round. 2. Sachi: Looking out of the corners of the eyes obliquely without moving the head. 3. Pralokitam: When the glance turns from side to side. 4. Ullokitam: Looking up. 5. Anuvruttam: Glancing quickly up and down. 6. Avalokitam: Looking downwards. I suggest you repeat these eye movements 4 to 5 times a day.
Neck Benefits: I don’t know about you but I carry all my stress in my neck and shoulders. Griva-Bhedas that is neck movements are extremely beneficial in relieving tensions in neck and shoulders. The four major neck movements to try are: 1. Sundari: Moving the head to and fro horizontally. 2. Tiraschina: An upward movement of the neck on both sides as though the face was forming the figure of horizontal eight. 3. Parivartita: Neck moving from right to left suggesting the half moon. 4. Prakampita: When the neck moves forward and backward in a thrusting motion like that of a pigeon. I strongly suggest that these neck movements must be done very slowly and intentionally to avoid pain or strain.
Spiritual Benefit: As I always say, “Dance is a prayer in motion”. I realized that it was my dancing that is giving me the sense of stability and peace. For thousands of years, the performing arts in India have been a form of religious expression. It is an expression of spiritual energy. This blend of religion with classical dances has continued to exist through the centuries. That is how the Devadasi system came into existence. These were dancers who dedicated their life to serve God in temples. As we all are confined to our homes, I strongly urge all students of these dances to practice at home and make it their temple/church. Let the family be the audience, which is a rare opportunity for the family to enjoy the growth of their children.
Physical Benefits: Whether you’re 70 years young or 7 years old, engaging in physical activities that involve dancing boosts your energy, and improves your cardiovascular health. The heart-pumping health benefits of dance cannot be ignored. It also helps our mental and emotional health by reducing stress, decreasing the symptoms of anxiety and loneliness of being stuck in our homes during this health crisis. Learning something new like this is an excellent form of mental exercise that may also reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Dancing increases your balance, strengthens your muscles, and increases flexibility reducing injuries, pain, and falls. However, you must check with your doctor before starting such physical activities
I hope you will have some fun with these dance moves and at the same time reap its benefits during this pandemic. I pray Benefits of Hand Movements: As many of us may have to for you and your families to stay healthy using dance as a work from home, we are certainly using our computers and prayer in motion. laptops all day. This repetitive movement can cause harm to our fingers in the long run. You may end up with inflammation in your joints or even arthritis. How often do we take a break and stretch our hands and fingers? I am guilty for sure. Thank Dr. Maha Gingrich goodness I still teach online. For questions or comments contact I want everyone of all ages and genders to try classical dance via e-mail at: Gingrichmaha@gmail.com Hastas or hand gestures. These are like alphabets that form words. There are single hand gestures known as Asamyuta Hastas and combined hand gestures using both hands known as Samyuta Hastas. Here, every finger is used to create the Saathee.com

A Conversation From the Outside Looking in... The film starts with a fully grey palette and a plethora of workers driving in for yet another day at their mundane job. Joe Banks (Tom Hanks) is one of those many workers who shuffle along through the gate like placated zombies. This obviously symbolizes a time in our lives where we feel like we’re just treading water and not making any headway. A routine has taken over and has chased away all of our dreams and ambitions; burying hopes under a pile of paperwork, bills, responsibilities, and obligations. Joe, a hypochondriac due in part to his now stagnate existence, goes to visit Dr. Ellison (Robert Stack) and learns after conducting many tests that he has a terminal illness called a “brain cloud” and roughly six months to live. While a “brain cloud” doesn’t sound like a plausible diagnosis, hearing it from the lips of the man who narrated the “Unsolved Mysteries” TV series would make you believe just about anything. More importantly, Joe’s suffering has both an explanation and a definite endpoint; a diagnosis packaged with a newfound sense of freedom. Where Joe was in a coma-like state when he arrived that morning, it is replaced by a sense of vitality and bewilderment of living this life for so long. He quits his job and tells off his boss, packing up his bag with just three books and his ukulele. He asks the dept. secretary DeDe out on a date and then leaves with his chest held high for the first time in ages. “Live like a king. Die like a man. That’s What I say…”
By Jennifer Allen
A long Time, on a Crooked Road…
With most of the world’s population in social isolation currently, many of us have some extra time to do things we’re not often accustomed to. We are now in a strange state of limbo with many social events we were looking forward to suddenly canceled or postponed for sake of our own health. Honestly if we didn’t have the technology we have now, we’d probably go completely stir crazy in our isolation from human interaction. And yet to me it’s possible to reach a point where our scenario is akin to a constantly shifting purgatory and its state changing minute by minute. The more we sit in our homes and occasionally chat with others by means of technology, the more I realize just how much we as human beings rely on those interactions in order to survive socially as a species. This made me think of a film that just turned 30 this year; Joe vs the Volcano starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Considering that Tom and his wife Rita Wilson were the first celebrities to come out and say they contracted COVID-19, it seemed like sheer serendipity had struck my brain and I tugged it out for a re-watch. “Once upon a time there was a guy named Joe...”
Joe vs the Volcano is a 1990 film written and directed by playwright John Patrick Shanley who had previously won an Oscar for the screenplay to Moonstruck. It is, in its purest form, a fairy tale. It’s a somewhat akin to a tender Bollywood love story but with a much more subtleness to it. It’s got gorgeous sets, stylized prose with an existential base, and amazing performances by the entire cast. It’s a truly heartfelt story in a film that sadly bombed at the box office. I honestly think it was just too far ahead of its time for early 90’s audience to deal with. The first time I watched it was in 1991 and something just… “Clicked” with me. I knew this film was special… and it deserved much more love than it initially received. Saathee.com

This kicks off the 2nd act with Joe’s journey to break free from this boxed-in world. Thanks to a proposition from eccentric billionaire Samuel Harvey Graynamore (Lloyd Bridges) he agrees to jump into a large volcano on the island of Waponi Woo in exchange for extremely rare mineral called Boobaroo. From there Joe goes forth on a quest that is both literal and symbolic as he partakes on a grand voyage, but it also becomes his search for meaning, wisdom, and to realize the things in life that truly matter. This is helped along by a matter-of-fact limo driver named Marshall (Ossie Davis), a luggage salesman (Barry McGovern) who steers him toward some amazing steamer trunks, and finally Angelica and Patricia Graynemore (both played by Meg Ryan). “Did I ever tell you? The first time I saw you, it felt I’d seen you before.”
All of Meg Ryan’s characters (DeDe, Angelica & Patricia) are perhaps the most blatant signs of how Joe’s life progresses rest of the film. Dede is someone he’s dreamed about but upon actually getting to know her, finds she’s shallow and fearful... like Joe has been for the last few years. Angelica is a selfdescribed “flibbertigibbet” obsessed with material and wealth and yet empty and alone. Patricia is outspoken and independent, but she is also frustrated with the connections to her father which keep her from enjoying life to the fullest. “My father says that almost the whole world is asleep. Everybody you know. Everybody you see. Everybody you talk to. He says that only a few people are awake, and they live in a state of constant, total amazement.” continued on page 94

Immigration Matters By Rishi P. Oza
How the immigration System has Responded to CoVid-19
As COVID-19 has dominated headlines by sweeping across the globe and the United States with almost unmatched pace and fury, the Trump Administration has been criticized for failing to adequately prepare the American public for the ravages of the virus. While the country’s immigration service has obviously taken a backseat to the other social services that are currently of greater importance, the country’s immigration machinery has slowed to a crawl. Borders to the north and south have been closed to non-essential travel; USCIS interviews for citizenship and green cards have been cancelled and will need to be rescheduled for an unknown date in the future; court hearings for all non-detained individuals have similarly been cancelled; consulates worldwide have closed, leaving visa applicants uncertain as to when and if they will be able to obtain a visa when consular doors reopen. As with many aspects of our collective lives, the immigration ...the gravity of the consequences of COVID-19 are shrouded in uncertainty. USCIS present situation has provided some information in demands more clarity response to the outbreak, although and directive from critics have indicated that the USCIS leadership. agency has been short on specifics for individuals stuck in unclear situations. USCIS has indicated that individuals that have been prevented from timely departures from the United States may apply for an extension or changes of status, even if his/her period of authorized stay has expired, if the delay was due to “extraordinary circumstances beyond your control.” USCIS has been less clear as to what the growing economic disaster is going to have on the status of nonimmigrant workers, such as TN, L-1 or H-1B visa holders. Traditionally, when an individual is terminated from employment with a sponsoring employer, that individual’s immigration status similarly terminates rendering them out of status. Policy interpretations have provided for grace periods to allow for workers to find replacement jobs, but with fears that COVID19 may result in an unemployment rate approaching or exceeding that of the Great Depression (24.9 percent), laid off workers may be left without options entirely – state-by-state lockdowns may inhibit departing the country and finding an alternate job position may be a pipedream. Complicating the issue is the lack of any real guidance from USCIS on how to troubleshoot the issue. Because USCIS is charged with interpreting and implementing existing statute, guidance on this point would be helpful, as thousands of nonimmigrant workers are going to be facing this exact situation in the days, weeks and months ahead. H-1B workers are particularly impacted, as they are bound by the conditions outlined in their specific H-1B applications. Typically, H-1B employees that are facing a “material change” in their job circumstances are required to file an amended H1B application, reflecting such a change. Current regulations Saathee.com
allows for employees to move to locations within the same metropolitan statistical area as was included in the original H1B filing without the need for an amended H-1B filing; for workers moving to locations outside of metropolitan statistical area originally included in the H-1B application, employers can utilize the “short-term placement” regulations, which allow for workers to be placed anywhere for up to 30 workdays. For placements that exceed 30 workdays, employers are thereafter required to submit an amended H-1B application to USCIS, as such a change would be considered material under H-1B regulations. With current projections for stay-at-home orders to be stretching into May and possibly June, employers may be pushed into filing amended H-1B applications to ensure that they are in compliance with existing H-1B guidelines. USCIS has relaxed some policies as they apply to filings, permitting electronic signatures instead of “wet” ink signatures on certain forms, but clarifying that the original wet signature may be required at a later point in time. While punting on issues related to workers, USCIS has indicated that students may be able to seek authorization for off-campus employment, although obtaining such employment would require a student to apply for an employment authorization card, for which the processing times range between 1 ½ to 5 months at the USCISPotomac Service Center and 4 to 5 months at the USCISCalifornia Service Center. Ironically, USCIS has put forth no guidance on how school closings impact an F-1 student’s overall lawful status. While federal officials are undoubtedly working under unprecedented circumstances, the gravity of the present situation demands more clarity and directive from USCIS leadership. While the health of our citizenry should rightfully be our nation’s foremost consideration, we should equally expect our other agencies to place our collective mental health at ease in times of crisis, for which some action from USCIS would be quite helpful.

News Notes The 26th annual Festival of India in Charlotte Cancelled
By Samir Shukla
The India Association of Charlotte (IAC), which organized the annual event, has decided to cancel the 26th Festival of India, scheduled to be held July 18-19, 2020 in Belk Theater and outdoors in Uptown Charlotte on Tryon Street.
The IAC released the following statement: ”In order to contain the spread of COVID-19 virus, federal, state and local government directives, restricting social interaction outside the home have created an unprecedented challenge to our way of life. We have been following the advice and guidelines from the authorities in real time; and monitoring the situation with some of our key partners. After assessing the projected outlook in the coming months, our board has recommended a change in direction of our current festival plans. We deeply regret to announce our very difficult decision to cancel the 26th Festival of India, scheduled for July 18-19, 2020 in Belk Theater and on Tryon St. This is an extreme step of cancellation of an annual event, that has been our labor of love for the last 25+ years. The safety of our visitors, our performers, our volunteers and other stakeholders, is of paramount concern to us and that is why we are taking this extreme action,” said IAC President Lal Vishin.” IAC is a nonprofit cultural organization and is already working with all the festival stakeholders exploring new dates for the next Festival of India, now slated to be held in the Fall of 2021. Last year the event attracted about 20,000 attendees over the 2-day weekend. We asked Lal Vishin to give details about the cancellation.
virus issue became more severe, we also considered offering partial festival content in a virtual online setting. After much internal deliberation, we agreed that this option does not serve the core objective of giving Charlotteans a weekend immersive cultural glimpse into a little slice of India Uptown on the street.
Also, considering this year’s unique and unforeseen circumstances, would doing a one-day, smaller festival sometime this year rather than canceling completely have been a potential option?
Our view is that even after the virus has been mitigated some, and we see the virus growth curve bending downwards, there is still going to be a psychological burden that we will all carry until a proven antiviral drug or vaccine becomes widely available. So besides the synchronized schedule challenges, doing a shortened one day festival would have the same handicap for our key stakeholders - perception of risk of exposure to the 2nd or 3rd wave of the virus, during the large group settings within the festival. For updates and more details, visit www.IndiaFestival.net.
Charlotte BAPS Charities Donates Funds for CMS Foundation
Saathee: The festival has been held in the fall last few years, why not reschedule in the fall?
Vishin: We normally prefer to do the festival in the Fall and started with that goal early this year, even before any concerns about the pandemic had surfaced. But we have two critical prerequirements for the festival - availability of a weekend slot at Belk Theater and City’s approval to close couple of blocks on Tryon Street that same weekend. Because of the Republican National Convention and some other City issues, this year turned out to be extremely challenging for synchronizing the two schedules. After much negotiations with Belk and the City in January/February time frame, we were finally offered the ONLY slot this whole year - weekend of July 18-19, 2020, and we grudgingly agreed to do the festival on those dates.
Were there any other options considered but remained challenging?
As we all know that our festival has outgrown other comparable (acoustics, size and Uptown street front) venues and after considering a late October slot at Knight Theater, our board converged instead on the July slot offered at Belk. As the Saathee.com

On April 24, 2020, BAPS Charities showed their support for the incredible work taking place at the CMS Foundation by donating $5,000 to its foundation. BAPS volunteers were greeted by CMS Foundation Staff, Ashelyn James, Foundation Manager and Sonja Gantt, Executive Director, to receive support from the local BAPS Charities center. Ashelyn James said, “Our goal is to ensure students continue to have access to learning while schools are closed. We want to thank BAPS Charities for their support and generosity,” These funds will be used to provide impacted families access to chromebooks and free Wi-Fi hotspots during the current school closures. Schools are closed, but access to learning doesn’t have to be. 72

Community Organizations downplaying fatalities, but they are likely much lower as they are currently counted against diagnosed cases. I don’t want many more to get sick or worse. But, realistically, the time to softly open the economy, in a step by step manner, is approaching. It’s either that or a massive global economic depression that may take years to recover from. No one also knows the physical, and, especially, mental problems that may ensue from long-term isolation and loss of work, especially among the poor and low income. The virus is out of the box or the lab or the bat or the monkey, wherever it came from, and I don’t think we can completely wipe it out. A masked May leading to a summer where we can practice limited travel, eating out, and shop can help recovery. I can’t imagine indoor concerts or sports happening possibly the rest of this year, but summer is coming. Hosting outdoor concerts, events, or sports with smaller crowds practicing distancing and masking could generate revenue to support those in the industries who have suddenly lost their livelihoods. It would be survival money until better conditions are availed. Uncle Sam is broke, how long can the government dole out trillions to keep things afloat? This maybe a pipe dream but I think summer will offer a bit of catch-up time. The bug will rear its head here and there, and maybe again in the fall/winter along with the flu. We must put together the necessary infrastructure now to deal with it. How we live and work with the new virus among us are the challenges. Let’s meet again, in commerce and in person, logically and softly.

We can be like cowboys of the American west, carrying bottles of sanitizers in holsters as side arms while putting on protective masks everywhere human contact happens. And don’t shake hands. That act of clasping human hands is so last year, so last century, so unhealthily unnecessary. A sensible middle ground must be found while the medical world finds effective treatments and the eventual pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, an effective vaccine. In the meantime, we must work toward commerce and human activity with safety in mind. There is never a zero risk to anything we do. Maybe hot summer sunshine will subdue the damn bug for a while and we can get some people back to work, with the knowledge that the bug is now with us. We just have to be ready with all necessary measures. You can still work from home if your job allows it. Ride out the rest of the year at home, until you feel it is safe to come out. That is an option you have even if we weren’t in a global health emergency. Many people simply don’t have this option. The fear factor alone will keep people at home even if businesses reopen. My family has comfortably sequestered the elderly in our family, same could be done nationwide. For those elders and vulnerable folks who don’t have family or financial support, we can create networks of volunteers and supporters who can help them stay home and deliver them necessities until an effective treatment is found. There will be no cure, we don’t have a cure for the flu or cancer, but we have meds and treatments to help us navigate through these and other medical maladies. My analysis of this is that the numbers of infected are at least 10 times or more then currently documented cases. If this is true, then the fatality rate is much lower, of course I’m not Saathee.com

Dadaji’s moral stories for kids TWO PARROTS, DIFFERENT LIVES
A parrot couple went out of their nest to bring food for their two young ones. A thief stole the two baby parrots and sold each to a different family. One was sold to a peaceful family that was well behaved, spoke respectfully and greeted guests with a smile. There were no quarrels in the family. The young bird learned all the well spoken words. The other birdie was sold to a quarreling family, where all were fighting with foul words, and it learned all the harsh language. Once, a king was passing by this house. The birdie saw the king and screamed: “You are a liar and thief. Just get out of here.” The king felt insulted but did not say anything. Continued on page 88

Later he found out that both birds were from same parents, but fate had placed them with different families. The one with the quarreling family picked up bad habits. The other stayed with the peaceful family and picked up good habits. Moral: Behave well among family and friends

MAY 2020
ARiES (March 21 – April 19) You are currently in a state of limbo and will not see any significant happenings this month. Don’t dispute with your friends or associates. Don’t get involved in new business deals and instead try to maintain your current situation. The best thing you can do right now is “wait and watch.” Your luck won’t favor you but at the same time there won’t be any bad luck either. Travel for family matters will bring good results.
liBRA (September 23 – october 22) This month will fly for you. You should have tremendous energy to carry out day-to-day pursuits. You will dream and try to materialize it. You may lose control over your spending. Even though the time is very good and relaxing, don’t make any major career or business-related changes. Also don’t use lies to achieve success. Watch your health.
SCoRPio (october 23 – November 21) It is time to slow down and spend some time for yourself. You may want to throw a party, but that would not go over very well right now. Don’t get involved in new ventures and try to maintain your reputation. Travel also should be avoided. All of this will help in rebuilding your reputation and personality. You will receive rewards in the coming period, so be patient. Your income will also rise.
TAuRuS (April 20 – May 20) An unexpected positive turn in your social life will bring lots of luck for you. Your income will definitely rise due to your own efforts. It’s okay to be gracious and pleased about this. A birth in the family is also possible. You may gain a lot of success in your business or job and will earn favor from your senior officers and authorities. This will be an action-oriented period for you, so be sure to make quick decisions.
SAGiTTARiuS (November 22 – december 21) Your hopes and aspirations will be realized this month. You can enter into new enterprises as this month will bring substantial gains in your business, trade, or job. There will be lot of support from the well-wishers. Avoid travel as far as possible. The period is not good for your love life. You will see dramatic change in behavior from relatives and family members. Learn to compromise.
GEMiNi (May 21 – June 20) In the first half of the month, you might face difficulties in your day-to-day pursuits. Your competitors will try to tarnish your image. A dispute with your partner is strongly indicated. However, the month will end with some improvement and a relaxed state of mind. Substantial financial gain is possible in the last week of the month. Your friends or associates will bring good news for you.
CAPRiCoRN (december 22 – January 19) You may have to adjust your plans due to unavoidable circumstances. You will see that change is on the way for the sake of good. You may feel like you are losing something and will have no control over this change. Keep working on the project and you will start seeing good results after second week of the month. You just need to remain patient.
CANCER (June 21 – July 22) However much you may try, you will not be able to maintain amicable relations with your friends and siblings this month. Business-related travel could bring you good revenue in the second half of the month. Try to curb your expenses. The time is good for artists and politicians. Don’t buy a new vehicle. Also drive carefully.
AQuARiuS (January 20 – february 18) Even though you will lose opportunity to get higher status, a marked increase in your income is indicated. You will feel more courageous. Any journeys undertaken shall prove fruitful. You will want to support your siblings. Relations with your clients, associates and other concerned persons will also improve as the period rolls on. Speculation or inheritance could bring extra money for you.
lEo (July 23 – August 22) Now is the time to act and make quick decisions. You will be very busy during this month. Don’t try to avoid your responsibilities. You may need to compromise in order to accept changes in your life. Also watch relations with your business associates. Handle any problem with daring and confidence. You will also enjoy a good love life because courage always wins when it comes to love.
PiSCES (february 19 – March 20) It is time to slow down, else you will succumb to mental anxiety. Try to develop a resistance against bad odds. Your spouse’s health problem may disturb you more. Your friends, siblings or associates will help you. Your family atmosphere will also be quite happy. Be sure to accept advice from an experienced yet younger associate before making any decisions. You may develop an eye or throatrelated problem. Don’t increase your debt.
ViRGo (August 23 – September 22) During this month, your clarity of thought will be missing. Your self-confidence will be lacking and you may not be able to stay tuned with your associates. Risk-taking tendencies should be curbed. Your friends and associates will not come forward to help. Things will improve significantly during the last week of the month. Some para-psychic power will help you a great deal during this phase of your life.

Just past the 1-hour mark of the film is a scene that always gives me a “happy cry” no matter how many times I watch it. Eventually the Tweedle Dee yacht they were planning to ride to Waponi Woo is struck by lightning and sinks. Joe, Patricia, and his four steamer trunks are the only survivors and Patricia is unconscious due to an accident during the storm. They are then adrift for days in the middle of a seemingly endless ocean. Joe, half exhausted, sunburnt, and dehydrated tries with his entire shaking form to stand and welcome the giant white orb that rises on the horizon. He reaches up with a sense of gratitude and humbled amazement that can only come from having every single thing you’ve ever known stripped away including fear and doubt, and yet continuing to live on. “I’ve been miserable so long, years of my life wasted, afraid. Been a long time coming here to meet you – a long time, on a crooked road.”
Finally, they reach Waponi Woo after being spotted, and Patricia finally realizes that Joe is her counterpart. He fills the emptiness that she’s been missing, and it turns out Joe feels the same way. Ultimately we only followed Joe’s journey, but it’s implied that Patricia has dealt with similar circumstances and so they meet at the peak of their own crooked roads. The journey to awaken is never linear but instead a long, winding road filled with false starts, poor choices, and bad turns. However, if we persevere and struggle to reach the apex of that road, we can find our way out of fear and instead to fully enjoy life with gratitude and awe. “And they lived happily ever after…”
received in these invaluable life skills. Although the entire human race has without question paid a price. An unwelcome side effect of extra time that tagged along, was the contagious forwarding of messages. Even when the intention was good and some of them offered comic relief, an overdose of news in the form of wild allegations and updates by the hour turned nauseating for the recipient who was trying to stay calm. But for every person who refuses to follow common sense there are a hundred angels, who selflessly put their hours and minutes to good use. One striking example is the overwhelming response by volunteers who sewed face masks to donate to hospitals, schools, and others in need. Distinctly human characteristics that otherwise set us apart from other species have put us in peril. Individual differences in our reaction to a pandemic has made our current situation a case study in the difficulty of mass behavior change. Changing habits is excruciatingly slow and difficult to reinforce. Shockingly, people find it easier to consume medication, accept hospitalization and even face possible death than switch to beneficial actions. Stubborn individualism paired with fears of losing their rights has led people to deliberately hold house parties making one question their level of sanity. On the other hand, in co-operative societies the urge to gather is so strong that people struggle to stay six feet away from one another unless there is a threat of force or fear of being imprisoned. At the end of the day the gift of time, despite its unexpected appearance, has given us a chance to introspect on what we value the most and evaluate if we are truly investing our time and care proportionately.
