RECLAIMING THE LANDSCAPE: RESEARCH CENTER NAZHVAN PARK,ISFAHAN|MASTER THESIS IN SUSTAINABILITY OF MULTISCALE PROJECTS|JULY2017 The image of Isfahan city in Iran has been inextricably shaped both by its historic monuments and its royal gardens. In the expressive visual descriptions of 16 th century, Isfahan has been identified as the “profusion of gardens” . The Growth of Isfahan during the last years resulted the significant loss of its agricultural lands and the increase of environmental pollution and socio-economic problems. The project studies range from territorial scale to a site-specific project and more tangible urban-architectural interventions. Within territorial scale it aims to safeguard a significant portion of agriculture lands, establishing buffer zones, water management, and ecological corridor in the center of the project. Then, using the corridor as an attractor and connector for an integrated productive landscape and generator of more resilient urban-rural settings. Accordingly, the project is looking for alternative aٌٌpproaches to the high quality productive landscape and its irrigation networks, first to protect them from uncontrolled urban occupations, proposing an extended environmental system composed by creeks, wetlands, and green corridors. In fact, an important goal is to transform degrading productive tissue into a resilient articulated system of self-sufficient productive landscape. With this vision four scenarios have been proposed: ٌI.Protection scenario: To create networks of protected open spaces,a band of new linear gardens designed in the fringe of the Nazhvan zone, which were mainly abandoned or dried gardens in the first place. These Patches of productive gardens work as protectors that “slow the energetic urban expansion”. Protectors include communal uses and institutions that help secure sensitive areas from unwanted occupation. II.Intensification scenario: The corridor can incorporate recreational, cultural and productive facilities connecting different assets that would attract both city residents and tourists. These intense public gardens consist of new activities, which works as Attractors that serves as gathering places for the community, providing a wide array of services and activities. For instance: kitchen gardens, leisure garden, and the active centers such as restaurants or other facilities for visiting agritourists.

III.Connection scenario: improving the continuity of the scattered green tissues in the area new green corridors have been proposed. These new corridors engaged with natural and cultural landscapes, working with organically forms of Maadi canals, are connecting the periphery with the city by creating a more accessible neighborhood. These bands act as green corridors at the neighborhood scale, and consist of waterways, new soft infrastructure, vegetated areas, agricultural land, and recreational strips linking buffers at peripheral areas, to the densely-populated Corridors of the city. IV.Synthetic scenario: the linear axis is an inter scalar intervention in a territorial scale giving access between infrastructural hinge points, incorporating pedestrian and bicycle paths make the Nazhvan area more accessible also in local scale. The new proposed “eco-armature as a soft infrastructure and transversal corridor communicates between different interfaces and corridors of linear park, Public Park and the productive patches of landscape. The new corridor envisioned productive and recreational opportunities in this green zone, organized in bands and ponds with different performative meanings. These meanings included cleansing the waterways, creating biodiversity, improving agricultural output and alternative economies, such as agritourism. At local scale creating an integrated system of public spaces, community services, and facilities such as institutes of higher and technical education that took advantage of their proximity to wetlands and agricultural fields.

MULTISCALE URBAN DESIGN STUDIO,RIFORMARE MILANO|MILAN|ITALY TEAMWORK|2015 The main Focus was to design the piazza d ` armi as a gate that connects the greenary of inner city to the urban agriculture of the surrounding. The Concept was to create a network of cycle routes to connect green areas inside and outside of the city, to allow the voyage through the urban agricultural land. The park is START OF A JOURNEY to the URBAN AGRICULTURAL areas and .The NEW BRIDGE provides CONTINUITY of the GREEN SPACES.

THE urban strategy Improve the Integration between Piazza D `armi and the city.Analysis of the surrounding roads help to define THE NEW ROUTES inside the site which keep THE CONTINUITY of the URBAN TEXTURE.

The area organizes by demolishing some of the buildings and changeing the functions of the rest to social housing, educational facilities and pavilions. The new public spaces can bring life to the area, the functions related to bike facilities gives the area a unique character, the cultural and educational facilities can serve the local residence and the new Residence as well.

URBAN REGENERATION BUILDING TECHNOLOGY|NAPOLI|ITALY |TEAMWORK| 2016 The Ponticelli district is located on the outskirts of Napoli. Although the regione has a lot of tourist and leisure potential nowadays it has become a problematic area, suffers from higher than city-average levels of poverty and educational failure. The strategy of the project is to first consider the target group, so as to use architecture to address some socio-economic needs. Next is to take into account the environmental aspect to know what can be harnessed as a benefit and what can be regulated, recycled, and reused. Using local materials open doors to profitable local enterprise and avoids bio-invasion. This is to strive to achieve eco-efficiency by doing more with less. the emphasis of the urban solution is first on the better accessibility to the Napoli, the technics of the rainwater harvesting and phytodepuration have been implemented in the masterplan.the reused water can help to improve the density of the public greenery of the courtyards.thus will provide the essential shadow in the summer. Each group has been given a pair of apartments to renovate. by the outcome of the environmental analysis, New balconies designed considering Natural ventilation and use of solar panels in the south-west facade. in the retrofitting of the plans, different typologies are designed for various family types. public spaces for leisure and social activities are also proposed on each floor.

2. Photovoltaic curtain wall for the lift and stairwell. Also integrated into a roof pergola sized to meet the energy requirements for elevators and outdoor lighting.

3. Rainwater harvesting and grey water after treatment [sand filter] collected into a tank underground in the courtyards for flushing toilets and irrigation.

THE FLOATING CITY THE INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED ARCHITECTURE OF CATALONI|COMPETITION 2015 What if the global warming leads to sea-level rise? What if the population growth and demanding human needs for food leads to dense cities and soil depletion, what if the land run out of fossil fuel? What are the possibilities for future cities to grow and expand without the dependency of land?

Each cell can live individually

productive cycle:Food,agriculture

Let’s think of the opportunities of living on the water, the resource in which 71 % of the total area of earth is consist of. One of the main issues in the birth and growth of each city is the energy resources especially in a productive floating city on water. Therefore various energy resources should come into consideration at the same time to be able to answer the needs, Geo-thermal energy of the ocean floors are the most dominant source among other renewable energy resources like sun and wind. The new floating cities are located in the spots of the ocean which are most accessible and richest in mineral resources. The geometric composition has designed in a way that consist of independent units of housing, agriculture and energy production and the city itself has an organic shape capable of future growth.

ALEF RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL COMPLEX TARHE KALOUT PARS|TEHRAN| IRAN|TEAM WORK| 2011-2012 Alef is a multifunctional complex locating in a residential area.it consists of two main facilities: _Cultural center with a bookshop cafe amphitheater holding various cultural events and activities mainly for children. _ Pray hall for holding the religious ceremonies. The form is made of two basic cubes. initial idea is that the volumetric composition and its material depict the activities and functions inside, the inner cube which is the prayer hall has been rotated due to the Mecca `s location and has a more introvert space with almost no openings. the bookshop which is the outer cube is like a cluster for the rotated cube and is more transparent to be able to have a dialogue with the street commuters. the pattern of the bricks for the pray hall is derived from the brick ended plugs of the anciant architecture in Iran. During Seljuk period a lot of monuments designed with this ornament style, including mosques and religious buildings. I was involved in drafting, modeling ,rendering and interior and landscape design of the project.
