The brief for the holiday villa was to design a home away from home for a busy working gemologist to escape the buzzing city life. I was assigned to design the terrace space of the villa. This space was visualized to be used for relaxing with a splendid view of the golf course. The basic instinct was to use natural materials to promote the well being of the end-user. Few techniques used were the arrangement of the pebbles along with the grass which is a zone therapy that puts pressure on certain points and relaxes them. Clay - 75% Glass -25%

Final Result
The brief for the facade design was to use low-cost material, which would cover the harsh sun’s heat and radiation from entering into the building from the southern orientation. We choose terracotta brick cladding and terracotta jallis. We composed white and red coloured clads randomly to break the monotony. Similar Algorithm was used for the Jalli walls which has two patterns namely, Four petal jalli and Camp jalli.

The Existing Floor plan could only house 48 seats with each table holding 4 seats. The restaurant is located amidst a busy shopping street in the city. We re-designed the entire seating by increasing the number of seating to 52 and bringing in variation to the configuration by adding 6 seaters and 2 seaters wherein they could accommodate a family without joining tables and they could also seat couples who visit the restaurant. We also introduced an outside Tandoor kitchen.
The Building was built around 1965 but the hotel rented the space from early 1978. The building was estimated to be around 54 years old approximately so major structural changes were not entertained by the Landlord . So we stuck to minimal interior alterations and also we used mostly paints, wallpapers and CNC cut Mild Steel plates for partitions except the ceiling mandala which was made out of M.S plates and M.S channels which weight around 76 kgs and was bolted to the ceiling using Fischer bolt anchor and Injection mortar.
16. Courtesy of ARARCH Design Studio
The Mandala design was based on a poem where it talks about the three major qualities to acquire, follow and gain in one’s life. We broke down the mandala into three layers of important qualities in each term and demonstrated it through graphical vectors. The mandala on each wall has a complete form in the centre and incomplete form on either side moving towards completion which indirectly means the literal meaning of a mandala-Complete!
18. Courtesy of ARARCH Design Studio
The Southern wall was the focal point to the restaurant when we enter. The Mandala design on this wall was arrived using the pattern, forms and textures that were used in the other materials, paintings in the design.
A map wall was Designed in house to locate the Tourists spots in the city conceptually concerning the location of the restaurant. They were categorised based in the typology of the space namely Worship, Relaxation, Motion enclosed within a mandala.

The site was facing west which could bring in the sun’s radiation and glaring light into the front fenestrations of the building. So we used brickbats in to form a parametric facade which is rotated along the z-axis. The brickbats are rotated in such a way that only required spaces get the necessary light through the jalli like brick facade and other spaces are completely devoid of the harsh glare from the west.
Exterior Elevation option A
Brick facade Creation
Rotating Bricks using point attractors
The Spaces which required sunlight to enter into the front balcony were mapped using point and these points were used as point attractors to create a domain of rotation angles with respect to which the brickbats rotate along the z-axis to allow the required amount of sunlight into the facade. The areas in the facade which are far away from the point attractors do not rotate or merely rotate to block the light from entering into the facade.
24.
We also worked out an option which keeps the facade open and just two huge slant walls blocking the harsh glare and radiation from the west. The drop slab from the roof was also slanted to continue the design language. This design was finalised after the client discussion.
Exterior Elevation option B
The north-west balcony is placed 3 feet below the First floor finished floor level on top of the portico roof slab. This Space was shaded by the front slant massing walls which can be utilised for relaxing and leisure.

OLD CITY
NEIGHBORHO
KUMBAKONAM
“THANJAVUR - A TIME WORN CITY RICH IN HISTORY AND HERITAGE” tional buildings in historic core of towns and cities play an important role in heritage tourism. Thus study also attempted to provide strategies for enhancing the image of historically important places and development of infrastructure for promoting tourism.
OLD CITY
is known as a "temple town" due to the prevalence of a number of temples here and is noted for its Mahamaham festival which attracts people from all over the globe.
Thanjavur is facing problems consequent upon rapid urbanisation which are devastating their historical physical form. Typically, the historic core areas are congested, overcrowded, lacking in public amenities and steadily deteriorating. The conservation of historic buildings and monuments and the problem of integrating the modern urban fabric causes the development of the new city along the southern side.
Thanjavur is the headquarters of the Thanjavur District. The city is an important agricultural centre locatedin the Cauvery Delta and is known as the "Rice bowl of Tamil Nadu". Thanjavur is administered by a municipal corporation covering an area of 36.33 km2 (14.03 sq mi)
NEW CITY
TRICHY
is ruled by the Pandyas, Pallavas, Mutharaiyars, Vijayanagar Empire, Nayaks, and the British. The historical monuments are the Rockfort, the Ranganathaswamy temple and the Jambukeswarar temple.
