Saber Lyman April 18th, 1996 Arizona State University Herberger Design School
I am currently studying Architecture to learn more skills on how to create a more sustainable and environmentally positive human legacy. I am very dedicated to providing an aesthetically pleasing, creative solution to all problems. At the heart of each project is the ability to enhance space by paying close attention to how people interact with each environment they are in. I believe that the future of architecture will play a large roll on combating climate change.

This project is a Luxury Home that has been under remodel for a few years, during the 60’s the property was raised and a large wall that is holding up the entire lot has started to fail. It was important to capture the current conditions before we try to fix the problem. After working with Engineers to determine the best way of fixing the wall and help preventing further deterioration.

Culinary Reuse August, 2019 Prof. Jay Atherton
Living in a desert offers an interesting study in creative ways to feed people with a lack of food. This sustainability question and innate need for sustenance leads to ASU inevitably expanding into the culinary world. The origins of culinary began around 2 million years ago with primitive humanity, with the discovery of fire. With time these techniques improved due to inventions of stoneware, earthward, and agriculture. Architecture and agriculture intersect with the concept of the green- house. This intersection influenced the design of the building, leading to the representation of greenhouses and earthward in the envelope. Greenhouses revolve around the path of the sun to ensure the plants inside can flourish. As such, the pattern of the glass and stoneware on the facade revolve around sunbathes with the program laid accordingly.

Timber In the City April, 2019 Prof. Scott Murf & Katherine Smith
Located along the East River in Queens, NY is a long and narrow site that is wanting be interwoven into the existing fabric. Near this location is a historically significant bridge that provides passage into Manhattan for thousands and city scape that is slowly being revitalized. To accommodate this, a new mass timber building is going to help bring a better life to the local community. By incorporating a Community Wellness Center and an Early Childhood Education Center the space can help the current and future generations. For new generation and families to occupy this place for years to come, maximizing the FAR was important.
CUT
Cutting the Community Wellness Center and Early Childhood Education Center away from the Residential area, allowing for a new passage between the two spaces to exist.
PULL
Pulling the massing up to the maximum FAR to get the most out of the site. Allowing for increased residential and commercial spaces.
CARVE OUT
PROGRAM MASSING + PHASING
Carving out the forms to talk with the surrounding community and allowing for it to be a place that is welcoming to all.

Virginia Creeper
(Parthenocissus quinquefolia) This high climbing vine is a native of the New York area. It changes color in the fall to a striking red and can attach to almost any surface. The vine is a perfect and natural shade provider for the south side of the building. During the summer it is full of foliage to limit direct sun light into the area and during winter, it’ll be dormant to allow for more natural light to pass through it.
Growing the Virginia Creeper on the South side facade will allow for a seasonally changing natural light diffuser. In the summer, when the sun is strongest, the vine will have full foliage providing the most shade. During the winter time, when direct light is favored, the vine will be dormant allowing more light to flow through.
