Everything you can imagine Is Real

Hi! I’m Sabita, an architectural designer. And this is my selected works since I was in college until present.

Nice to meet you

As an urban enthusiast, I believe that a place usually has patterns as challenge for us to design. And people as the user are the one who create them to be festive. I too believe to the fact that there will always be a value to be challenged from learning the people. As important as food, architecture should be enjoyed by its users, not only by the designer, Hence, these community-based issue inspires me in most of my works for 5 years experience.

CONCEPT Time setting in site The site has the privilege of branding image which will be beneficial if stakeholder could manage it well. Indirectly, it owns particular schedule of events to be held. In the future, design should accommodate the time scheme of events from incidental, weekday, weekend, until annual event. The time scheme could help stakeholder to simulate the space taken for each event, and decide how to organize them appropriately.

Layer of Design

As the design process is derived from the layer of site analysis, it is obtained from synthesis based on layering data from Gading Fajar Market. The resulting layer is in the form of; Solid-void space; urban fabric, and site grid pattern. The fixed module acts as street vendor magnet to become an order. For this reason, a simulation is needed to represent changes in the arrangement of modules from time to time. This module will attract dynamic modules to develop around it. The sample points are simulated using cellular automata to obtain the right distribution for the simulation of dynamic merchant development on the site.

Through the IMAGE OF THE CITY (Lynch,1960), the element of city consists of path, edges, district, node, and landmark. Based on the existing points, it is decided to divide the design by the function, such as; a. Pedestrian way as path b. Greenspace and vegetation as the limitation border of the market c. Public space as the node d. Anchor building as district e. Roundabout as landmark/node

FORMAL Layer of Design The result of the design is green space with the order of the disorder to maintain the dynamism of the merchant distribution pattern. This disorder pattern is a barrier to the transaction space limit of the users. The permanent-modules pattern is visible along morning layout in the image below that shows its chaos. Anchor module becomes the building object as the orientation of site. As illustrated in the picture, pop-up market activities surrounds building objects which is in the form of workshop buildings.

The site is located in a crowded area with narrow access. The building is a merge of three houses with one continuous access. The east house is abandoned since it collapsed in the year 2014. Yet it is still used as storage space for the family.

This design is a development of the house in the future. There is main zoning of the building, from the outer side is the public-productive area, semi public, and private area. Garden on the west side will improve the quality of the air, since the lack of open space in their neighborhood. This garden also avoid the noise and view disruption from the vehicle due to the shop activities.

Workshop: Mitra10 Small House Competition Year & Institute: 2019 Site & Location:

Nyamplungan st., Ampel, Surabaya Building Type: Residential Team: Eva Yuliana P., S.Ars.

Summary Kampong Ampel as one of several cultural districts in Surabaya, become more vibrant as years. The urge of housing with additional function become very common, especially around the tourism destination like Pasar Ampel Despite the raising of housing demands, the land has became more expensive, and this is not followed by the people growth in this area.

AMPEL TINY HOUSE

04

DESIGN CONCEPT Site Location This design is located on Nyamplungan st., which is a vibrant-multi cultural district of Surabaya. As a tiny-house, the users are native Surabayan whom live by selling commodities for tourism destination like Makam Sunan Ampel.

Split-Level Both newly-wed couple or family with 2 children could fit this house with a shop at the outer layer of the house. This house is designed to accommodate both functionality of resting and working.

Tiny space of house become the only obstacle to pursue privacy. To overcome the privacy issue, splitlevel program is used in this design. This system also minimize the wall as barrier/divider separating each rooms. Staircase in the center become the main circulation in this house.

The block of space is arranged from the public (green) into the most private area (red). To optimize the use, every empty space in different level could be used for either storage, seating area, or playing area for kids.

Continuousity

Service

As the size of the house, users need to divide 3 sections of the property. The first one is the shop, the second is the service room, and the last is private. To give more privacy within the small area, this design contains levelling for each room. And the stairs as the bridge area become the connector between private to service.

The service area of the house is living room and kitchen. Kitchen and living room become essential for some people in Asia. Both space always become “social” space for guests or the household. To provide the needs properly, both area are put together with levelling as the separation to combine the function of socialization.
