sprinting Sprinting is a process where a designer gives themselves a set of rules and limitations. They then take theselimitations and run with them. They create a composition within 30 minutes and then move on. Sprinting is an effective way of getting ideas out in the open while learning to work faster and more efficiently. This collection of sprints were based off of Kanye West’s most famous tweets.

To started by collecting a number of Kanye’s memorable tweets. After I found a few that I thought would be interesting, I created a basic grid structure to work off of. Having a limited experience with grids I pushed myself to stick to it as closely as possible.

Working with the grid for a couple of sprints helped my understanding of how to manipulate it. I started to focus on creating subtle textures within the composition and ignoring legibility.

Discovering the complexities of working with texture enhanced my interest in how it can effect the feel of a composition. Using photographs as grid structures I could create depth with texture.

Now it was time to start working with color. I picked a color that I valued aesthetically, but had not yet worked with in design. I started by re-working previous compositions.

After challenging myself to use the grid consistently I decided that it was time to break out of the grid and create compelling compositions using what I had leanred so far.

The final stage was to edit down all of my compositions. I collected the ones that I felt were my best and left the ones that I felt did not work as well. Working as a group, two other designers helped me pick out the final compositions and organize them into a logical layout.

The final step was to design a cover and assemble the book. Despite a few quality issues with the printing of the book, cutting and assembling was not an issue and went fairly smoothly.
