Science researchers discovered two new species known as gymnures in Eastern Mindanao early this year.

These species are soft-furred hedgehogs that were discovered at the peaks of Mt. Hamiguitan in Davao Oriental and Mt. Kampalli in Davao de Oro.

The DENR Davao described the said species as shrew-like due to its golden-brown streaks in its fur and pointed nose.
