The Modular Animal Mobility Platform (MAMP) is “designed for manufacturing” employing injection molding, extrusion and metal stamping, permitting ‐ HIGH VOLUME /LOW COST manufacturing. The contract price depends on the Specific System, Material, Quantity and Delivery Date.
That said, the basic MAMP pack frame comprises only 5 ASSEMBLIES created from 10 BASIC PARTS. The system is currently developed to Technical Readiness Level 5 – (TRL 5) ‐ all basic systems proven in a controlled environment. The system is currently ready to be refined for manufacturing, employing Finite Element Analysis, Computer Aided Mold Design, and field testing.

In many Developing countries, the donkey is the basis for the economy, which is why there are 1,500,000 donkeys in Afghanistan. There are also 100,000,000 pack animals distributed throughout the developing world, today.
“Improper adjustment may cause injury to the animal or may affect the time and distance the animal can carry its load.”
The Livestock, in particular the donkey, of the small peasant farmer represents their total realizable wealth. The donkey is the work animal that has the most to offer in assisting rural people and alleviating poverty. Unfortunately, Gravity and Tissue Physiology require that Pack Saddles, used on these donkeys to build the economy, so that poverty can be reduced, must “FIT” the animal backs “accurately”. As the Army FM 213 stated, “Improper adjustment may cause injury to the animal and affect the time a distance the animal can carry its load.” If the saddles do not fit “accurately”, saddle sores will likely occur. Once the animal develops a saddle sore, it can no longer carry a load. In Developing Countries, this often means the animal is abandoned and left to starve and die, and the farmer’s wealth is lost, and the economy is being impaired. In Afghanistan, the donkey is the transportation network. The “Bottles to Burros” tm Program could provide the MAMP pack saddles to indigenous populations by “RECYCLING” beverage containers, and military equipment plastic containers, brought into country to supply the troops and now becoming land fill. This “waste” raw material could be converted into MAMP pack saddles, at a low cost, improving the transportation system and in turn the economy. The “Bottles to Burros” tm Program could be expanded to provide a “cottage industry” to build the economy. This program would be similar to the 1950’s “Care packages” and could provide a significant “Civil Affairs” opportunity for the United States to “Win Hearts and Minds”

Why?
Historically, the U.S. Cavalry only employed “Adjustable” Pack Saddles. i.e. Aparajo and Philips Pack Saddle SOF mostly employs pack saddles that are “Limited or NOT Adjustable” that rarely fit, because that is what is available. It is mathematically impossible for one or two sizes of pack saddles to fit the wide variety of animal back shapes. “Recreational Saddle makers” do not consider “Gravity” a factor, so they provide everyone inaccurate “Fitting” information. The U.S. Military does not currently possess any “accurate method” to numerically measure and validate the fit of a saddle.

The base “Load Distribution Array” (LDA) has been tested in the Laboratory and in a controlled field environment with Computer Interface Pressure Measurement Instruments. These tests have proven to evenly distribute the saddle/load pressure evenly on the animal’s back with loads as high as 158Kg/350lbs. These Pressures were found to be lower than current saddle technology, less than 1 PSI, in part due to the greater surface area of the LDA, more than double the surface of current pack saddles and due to the “self‐ adjustable” load beams that conform to the shape of the animal’s back more accurately.

How Much Damage?
“The “measureable” amount is difference between the 3D shape of the animal’s back relative to the 3D shape of the saddle, adjusting for the weight of the load, relative to the weight of the animal. The degree of tissue injury is proportional to the amount of “measureable error” and the length of time the pack saddle is loaded on the animal’s back. The amount of Pressure over Time is the critical factor to determine damage.

The MAMP Pack Saddle is the proud successor to the Phillips Pack Saddle, providing all the same features as the original, and has the additional improvement of employing modern Computer Aid Design, Finite Element Analysis, Saddle Interface Pressure measurement and modern manufacturing processes, integral to the design. In 1919, the U.S. Army had a desperate need for a simple pack saddle that was 1) easy to use, 2) packed quickly, and 3) could accompany cavalry at all gaits. This challenge motivated the military to test nearly every standard foreign and domestic pack saddle of the time, including the pack saddle that SOF currently employs. This research culminated with the Phillips Pack Saddle being adopted for the Cavalry service in 1924. This saddle is no longer manufactured. The MAMP pack saddle is its successor.

MAMP provides an integrated modular hanger. For centuries, armies have tied loads onto pack saddles, because there was no other way to do it. In 1908, U.S. Army chief packer Daly, invented the “Hanger” to attach a wide variety of loads without the necessity for tying knots. The MAMP pack saddle, follows the Army’s invention, and employs a modular hanger that has a base “flat bed” that can be adapted to a wide variety of loads, and permits additional components to be attached to this flat bed with simple pins that permits stretchers, Javelin missiles and other field configurable cargos to be easily loaded. The MAMP Pack Saddle is the proud successor to the Phillips Pack Saddle, providing all the same features as the original, and has the additional improvement of employing modern Computer Aid Design, Finite Element Analysis, Saddle Interface Pressure measurement and modern manufacturing processes, integral to the design. In 1919, the U.S. Army had a desperate need for a simple pack saddle that was 1) easy to use, 2) packed quickly, and 3) could accompany cavalry at all gaits. This challenge motivated the military to test nearly every standard foreign and domestic pack saddle of the time, including the pack saddle that SOF currently employs. This research culminated with the Phillips Pack Saddle being adopted for the Cavalry service in 1924. This saddle is no longer manufactured. The MAMP pack saddle is its successor.

MAMP provides an integrated modular hanger. For centuries, armies have tied loads onto pack saddles, because there was no other way to do it. In 1908, U.S. Army chief packer Daly, invented the “Hanger” to attach a wide variety of loads without the necessity for tying knots. In many Developing countries, the donkey is the basis for the economy, which is why there are 1,500,000 donkeys in Afghanistan. There are also 100,000,000 pack animals distributed throughout the developing world, today.
“Improper adjustment may cause injury to the animal or may affect the time and distance the animal can carry its load.”
The Livestock, in particular the donkey, of the small peasant farmer represents their total realizable wealth. The donkey is the work animal that has the most to offer in assisting rural people and alleviating poverty. Unfortunately, Gravity and Tissue Physiology require that Pack Saddles, used on these donkeys to build the economy, so that poverty can be reduced, must “FIT” the animal backs “accurately”. As the Army FM 213 stated, “Improper adjustment may cause injury to the animal and affect the time a distance the animal can carry its load.” If the saddles do not fit “accurately”, saddle sores will likely occur. Once the animal develops a saddle sore, it can no longer carry a load. In Developing Countries, this often means the animal is abandoned and left to starve and die, and the farmer’s wealth is lost, and the economy is being impaired. In Afghanistan, the donkey is the transportation network. The “Bottles to Burros” tm Program could provide the MAMP pack saddles to indigenous populations by “RECYCLING” beverage containers, and military equipment plastic containers, brought into country to supply the troops and now becoming land fill. This “waste” raw material could be converted into MAMP pack saddles, at a low cost, improving the transportation system and in turn the economy. The “Bottles to Burros” tm Program could be expanded to provide a “cottage industry” to build the economy. This program would be similar to the 1950’s “Care packages” and could provide a significant “Civil Affairs” opportunity for the United States to “Win Hearts and Minds”

Why?
Historically, the U.S. Cavalry only employed “Adjustable” Pack Saddles. i.e. Aparajo and Philips Pack Saddle SOF mostly employs pack saddles that are “Limited or NOT Adjustable” that rarely fit, because that is what is available. It is mathematically impossible for one or two sizes of pack saddles to fit the wide variety of animal back shapes. “Recreational Saddle makers” do not consider “Gravity” a factor, so they provide everyone inaccurate “Fitting” information. The U.S. Military does not currently possess any “accurate method” to numerically measure and validate the fit of a saddle.

The base “Load Distribution Array” (LDA) has been tested in the Laboratory and in a controlled field environment with Computer Interface Pressure Measurement Instruments. These tests have proven to evenly distribute the saddle/load pressure evenly on the animal’s back with loads as high as 158Kg/350lbs. These Pressures were found to be lower than current saddle technology, less than 1 PSI, in part due to the greater surface area of the LDA, more than double the surface of current pack saddles and due to the “self‐ adjustable” load beams that conform to the shape of the animal’s back more accurately.

How Much Damage?
“The “measureable” amount is difference between the 3D shape of the animal’s back relative to the 3D shape of the saddle, adjusting for the weight of the load, relative to the weight of the animal.
