Bridge Builders - the youth wing of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission have started a unique project named "Save A Cow". As the name reveals, it is a service activity where they plan to save 95 cows by August 2nd 2013 on Rev. Dada J.P. Vaswani’s 95th birthday.
Normally non productive or diseased cows and male cattle are sent for slaughter as the farmers cannot bear the feeding cost, if they have no return from the animals. They sell animals for slaughter and get some cash in return. The cost for one male calf varies from Rs. 2500 to Rs. 5000, mid – grown cow from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 10,000 and for one fully grown cow from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000. These cows are bought from the animal markets like Market Yard, Jharkhand and outskirts of Pune and kept in an animal shelter. At the animal shelter they are then regularly visited by the volunteers, who take care of their cleanliness and food.
