Semester project Architectural Design and Detailing (Sem III)

First floorplan

01. CENTRETITLE FOR PERFORMING ARTS Studio project in semester III was to design a perDescription forming arts centre in the town of Manipal, Karnataka. It had to house different activities falling under the performing arts field like theatre, dance, vocal and instrumental music etc., as well as cater to the everyday needs of the students, staff and visitors like cafeteria, toilets, auditorium and other services. The main consideration of the design was to ensure the buildings seemlessly rises out of the landform. The facade of the walls looking into the courtyard has vertical wooden panels - each different from the other - with pattern ebbing accross it in a calming rhythm and flow. Along with the light colours, this also helps with solar control. While the irregular mass houses the admininistrative spaces and the classrooms, the auditorium and the cafeteria is a cuboidal mass, treated with wooden siding, and sporting a green roof to both insulate the space in the harsh summers as well as provide sound-proofing. It is ensured that the central courtyard that serves as interaction space is accessible to all.

Ground floorplan

DE SIGN D E V E LOP M E NT Design with respect to contours. Entry and exit both located on the eastern edge of site. Sunlight majorly from south and wind from southwest to northeast.

Local byelaws taken into account & setbacks calculated. Courtyard provided for provision of natural lighting and cross-ventilation.

Individual room heights for the different activities are incorporated. Two access points for pedestrians provided for staff/ visitors & students respectively.

The final form of the building attempts to merge with the landform as a mass rising out of the site. The central courtyard acts as an interaction/practice area as well.

01. 03. ARTISANS TITLE VILLAGE

Vision Description A city’s image can serve as the basis upon which to develop a strong sense of community. This, in turn, fosters trust and cooperation which may attract tourists and investment, and drive regional economic growth which lines up with the thought process behind the design proposal. This project aims to create not just a tourism hotspot, but also provide job opportunities and promote cultural activities for the people of Brahmavar, Udupi. An area with its own sense of place and identity that is separate but also synergizes with the culture of South Canara. Objectives • To establish richness and diversity in the urban form that allows people to connect and experience the cultural background of the place. • To develop spatial framework composing of various spaces which include a Skill Development Area, Guthu Mane, Artisan’s Hub, Amphitheatre and Retail Shops. • To create a direct marketing channel for traditional artisans and craftsmen.

ART ISANS’ H UB Present away from residential area since it generates significant noise. Zoned in the area with least slope and in the semi-private area.

G U T H U M AN E ( MU SE UM) , O AT & G AT H ER IN G S P A C E Guthumane - Zoned on the highest area on the site as they have traditionally been zoned similarly. Also, it is used as exhibition space for the works of the artisans. OAT - Zoned in proximity to temple for cultural events. Children’s park & garden provided close to staff entry which will be used to access temple by those living in the locality

A RTI S A N S’ RESIDENCES In between Artisans hub and Staff parking for easy access to both as well as for privacy.

DETAILED MASTERPLAN

ZONES BASED ON USER ACTIVITY

Artisans and other staff Visitors Temple-goers/ local residents

The area used by the artisans and other staff is zoned to the north-west corner of the site such that the noisy workshops are situated far from the residential area. This is also the flattest part of the site, and will consist of the Artisans Hub & Training center. Currently, there exists an entry to the site from the east used by the local people to access the temple. This will be retained and other amenities for the local residents like the amphitheater, children’s park, garden & open green space will be provided in the zone. The area which will be accessed by visitors/tourists is zoned to the south of the site, such that the road to the south can be used for future expansion to the site below as well. SPACE

01. 05. THE TALWAR TITLE RESIDENCE

This interior design project is for a 3BHK apartment Description located in Navi Mumbai. The lower floor with the living and dining area, and the bedroom are redesigned to make it more functional and aesthetically appealing. The design is inclined towards minimalist and mid-century modern styles. The concept is constructed from 2 keywords: “calming” and “stimulating”. Since most of the family are in creative fields, it was essential for their spaces to stimulate creative thinking. But their home is also a place to relax and interact. Hence, a calming atmosphere was also necessary. It was important thus to find a careful balance between the both, so as to avoid sensory overload or lethargy. USERS USERS Rithik (client) (20)

01. TITLE Adding width to column to ground dining table as well as provide a focal point for living room furniture to mount TV/artwork. Sectional sofa and accent chair arranged near window facing the feature wall. Near the main entry, vertical millwork shelf added for shoes and bar shelf. This also helps in defining entry space. Seating facing TV/artwork as well as in daylight allowing views to the garden outside. In the bedroom, work desk added near window along with vertical shelving for extra storage adjacent to it. The wardrobe is shifted near the toilet door and a credenza takes its place. This is so that the TV is mounted directly in front of the bed and the wardrobe is right next to the dressing area.

Description Live Project The owner of this brand in Chennai required the interiors of this store to be redesigned with space for just take-away due to the pandemic, a preparation area in the middle, and a kitchen at the back of the 45 m2 store.

01. 06.

Semester project Interior Design - Live Project (Chennai)

The 10m length of the store was partitioned with frosted glass in wooden-paned walls into 2.5m, 4.2m and 3.3m respectively for the take-away area, prep area and kitchen. The images on the left show the renders of the take-away space and the prep area, while the pictures on the right are of the finished store. Warm and neutral lighting was chosen according to the need and aesthetic of the store. Coolers, shelves and sinks were positioned in the prep area as per the needs of the client, with a large table in the middle with overhead lighting for easy preparation of her cakes and other desserts. The take-away area is designed such that one sees the inviting accent wall with the mural by Ramya (RBTARY) with the dusy rose and mint green as per the palette chosen for the store.

M OOD BOA RD

The moodboard shows the fresh and inviting aesthetic chosen for the store. Muted shades of beige & wood are introduced to balance out the bright mint and dusky rose tones.

Art Semester project

01. 08. MISCELLANEOUS TITLE

1. Pencil & charcoal sketching Description Graphite sketching was intially the go-to medium for art. Once comfortable, I explored with other mediums such as charcoal and soft tip coloured pencils. 2. Digital painting Started exploring by creating different kinds of digital paintings - abstract and realistic. 3. Glass etching Etched images onto glass by sand-blasting as part of a glass etching workshop. 4. Photography Rises from the love of travelling and documenting beautiful places, architecture and objects. 5. Dramatics Active as an acting and script-writing member in several Dramatics clubs in school and college. Builds confidence and self-expression.
