TALENTS TOP 5 MUST-HAVE
We’ve narrowed it down to the top 5 critical know-hows for a career in the creative industries.
CREATIVITY IS KEY
Fantastical worlds, thrilling narratives, music that moves you, and addictive play are all born from imagination. The realm of creativity gets you to craft spectacular and elaborate stories, sounds and designs that capture attention and provoke thoughts and emotions. The sky’s the limit with what you can create, so don’t hold back. This is the industry where you can run wild with ideas, and defy gravity. Take time to dream, find inspiration, ideate, and just keep creating to keep those juices flowing.
TECHNICAL GAME
Yes, being in the creative world relies heavily on your artistic capabilities. But whichever discipline you choose, chances are there are technical skills you’ll also need to master if you want to go pro.
From getting down with DAWs to produce music to Autodesk Maya, and Unreal Engine 4 for creating games or designing with the full Adobe Suite - your technical dexterity can make or break your career. This is where it pays to have experienced professionals from industry at your side.
THE FEELS
The essence of work within any of our imaginative disciplines is to convey emotion. Tapping into the human subconscious, making them feel through visual story-telling or sound, will only succeed by including elements that evoke emotion. To reach through the screens, the speakers, or off the page, so we feel it on a visceral level, you’ll need to weave varying degrees of sound and sight to elicit authentic emotion. Igniting the senses is the core of creative endeavours, so understanding how to yield this power within your field is essential.
MUST-HAVE
GOT SKILLS
Success can’t be achieved with one skill alone. Especially if the top is your end game. Your future relies on your ability to amplify your skills, make them relevant to other industries and know how to flex them to your advantage.
A sound engineer is not limited to recording musicians - millions of people lose track of time playing video games, get emotional in movies, and fall in love with animations, all with the help of audio.. An animator can create characters to aid the immersive environment within a movie or a video game.
Musicians can master their own staging, produce their own beats and business like a boss. Graphic designers can code and get behind the technical side of how their creations are seen.
So, be ahead of the game by understanding the basics in other disciplines within the creative industries. This makes for effortless team collaboration on your creative endeavours.
TALE TELLER
The art of creative industries lies behind bringing stories to life and communicating with people using empathy, creativity and imagination.
In the 21st Century, understanding diverse audiences around the world and the digital methods to communicate with them is crucial. This requires tapping into your imagination, defining your ideas and vision and delivering the story with conviction. And, not just any idea, you need to have a vision of how you’re going to bring together your characters, sights, sounds and techniques in a way that will engage and connect to your audience from start to finish. This is truly the industry where you’re only limited by your imagination so have fun developing your creations - stories can be as fearless, whacky or as dramatic as you dare to take them.
There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to the cultural and creative economy. But if the approach is systematic and deliberate, there are significant gains to be made
AUSTRALIA’S CULTURAL AND CREATIVE ECONOMY
TECH REVOLUTION
REVOLUTION
The future of work within any industry has primarily been about collaborating effectively with the constant evolution of technology.
With the right mix of passion, skills, talent and determination, you could be a creative pioneer in this age of technological singularity. Be the leading force of creative change in how we engage with any medium on levels we’ve never even imagined.
As the trajectory of technology continues its path across dimensions, so too with the exciting possibilities of the multisensory experience of art. No longer are we limited to 2D dimensions. Our senses are spoilt for choice with 3D, Virtual and Augmented Reality creating immersive experiences. How can we possibly take it even further? Visionaries: I got this.
Software and hardware are still on the path of evolution. Tools for creators are constantly advancing to create things faster and better. Whilst we’re already accustomed to high-definition graphics, 3D movies, and virtual reality, the future of creative industries will see us blurring the lines between the digital and the physical world even further.
Pokemon Go sent the globe on a thrilling adventure catching virtual creatures seemingly in front of our very eyes through Augmented Reality. This opens up so many possibilities with AR technology. Imagine the animated worlds, rich characters, and storylines that can be experienced by wearing AR glasses.
Projection Mapping uses light and colour to project virtual images on any surface. Pioneer a future where you can let your imagination run wild creating projects like Tony Stark, seemingly manipulating these projects with his own bare hands.
360 reality and new spatial audio technology take listeners to another dimension - immersed in a dynamic soundscape that calibrates sound in a way that captures distance, direction and the sound reflection of instruments, vocals, and even an audience, to make you feel like you’re at the centre of it all.
Truly engaged in multisensory immersive experiences is the future of the experience economy. Blending sight, sound, touch, smell - heighten the senses in a simulated reality that transcends any experience we know now.
Combine these with AI technology and cloud gaming, and we’re on another level of the realms of imaginationimmersed in a fantasy world, interacting with hyper-realistic characters and experiencing it with people around the world in real-time.
The forefront of creative industries is most definitely where it’s at.
