"So live that when thy summons comes to join The innumerable caravan which moves To that mysterious realm where each shall take H is chamber in the silent halls of death, Thou go not like the quarry slave at night, Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch About him and lies down to pleasant dreams." The Class Ah! Ha! here we are in the dark, dreary, gloomy, mysterious tent of the circus fortune teller. Let's see what the future has in store for the Springfield Seniors of 1950. Gazing over the shoulder of the swami, we can see in her crystal ball how our friends will appear in 1960.
her patients. Dr. Crouse is still a mighty man hater. Coming into focus we find Janet Conard living in the country in a house which she and (?) have just built. With a crack of a whip we see Rachel Desiderio lording it over her employees at Desiderio's Music Store. Flash! we see a newspaper headline: Charlie Doyle just married the Vandenbury heiress. The new show "South Pacific" has finally reached town, and we see Pinza Doxie and Martin Gallo singing the leading roles. Let's turn toward the audience. There's Tully Doxie giving her husband moral support, by clapping loudly. Drapery material is being delivered to the store of Iliff and Mason. Speaking of drapes, the interior decorators don't look so bad themselves!
But who should bounce in blowing a whistle! Jiggers, it's the cops! No, it's only Margie A bramson teaching phys. ed. in Springfield High. She has taken the place of the retired Mrs. Serge Voninsky alias "Mother" Brusch. The next vision we can't quite make out. Oh, yes! it's Ted Andrews selling chemical supplies to Dr. Avedisian; Dr. Jackson, and Dr. Kizuik who are working on their Cougar Bomb. Well, look who's here! Mother Bates wearing horn-rimmed glasses, and her hair streaked with gray. She's trying to teach her little daughter Veronica to twirl.
Not far from Springfield High School we see Jack Duddy in front of the "Duddy Acme", trying to peddle his latest concoction.
As that vision fades, we see coming into the picture: Betty Breeser looking up into the beaming faces of her 6 feet 2 inch students; trying to hammer Latin into their heads.
Across the street from Duddy's we see
Durham and Gregory's Plumbing Store. Around the corner we come to Dr. Joan Wilson's office. Inside we find her performing a tonsillectomy on unwilling Dave Patton. Nurses attending are Jean Eckman and Jane Leonard.
Look, here we are in Springfield High School, in room one, to be exact; seems as if Jack Brennan and Joe Kierstead are still trying to get that precious "B" from Mr. Madeira. Give him a poisoned apple, boys! Speaking of getting a "B," Fred Horrox just received his "master's degree," believe it or not!
Hold him tight, girls! Flash! water boy, Ted Erickson, just helped the Springfield Cougars, under the leadership of Coach Rah! Rah! Fisher, defeat Swarthmore 50 to 19.
This is a busy day for the fortune teller, who now brings into the picture Misses Pat Carroll and Dorothy Bucknum, who are both secretaries to the su.ccessful Janet Chalupa, editor of "Mademoiselle". Now appears Mary Crouse, psychoanalyzing
The wedding bells just rang for Sherrill and Frank, Charlotte and Bill. Dig the rice out of your ears, kids! Now we turn to the business angles. Here we find Skip Hutchinson sitting in a plush

Prophecy chair with two attractive secretaries bouncing on his knees : Madeline and Lorraine. The president of Standard Oil Company, Ralph von Glahn has just hired three new slaves. They are draftsmen: Bill Raymond, James McCartan and Erwin Panczner. Oscars to Don Lownes for his fine pictures, with a junior sized oscar for Ginny Jones, the camera career girl. Here we see Mary Warnick sketching "tall" men and Joan Stewart drawing ducks for Schmidt's Greeting Card Co. and Swezey's Billboard Beauties. Congratulations to "Hop" Harrigan for winning the Indianapolis "500" in his Model
latest styles for the new "Queen For A Day",
Jack Hilbeck. Thinking of June, 1950, reminds us of our nice classmates, Mary Livezey, Ginny Morton, Ruth Scull, Catherine Vaughters and Shirley Robertson, who thought they learned enough at Springfield to get married. Did they learn it in Mrs. Peel's Home Finance Class? Changing the scene we see Mrs. Lennie Mennick, wife of a prosperous consul in Utopia. We once knew her as Barbara Dreyer. Just new in the world of business is the Robbins and Morgan Comic Strip Company. They're so busy that they hired Sam Montgomery as office boy. Another employee is industrious "Ho Hum" Margaret McLaughlin who writes the captions. Puffing along behind "Atomic Bursts" Schiller and Reiniger are John "Sixty Minute Die Hard" Nessen and Allen "Puffed Out" Walch. It was a hard struggle against the weaker sex. Main attractions in the Bowery are Don Race playing third horn and Mary Jane Sensenig accompanying him with first violin in a German gutter band. On California shores taking life easy are Don Rademan with his money press; ~kip Rhoades and Ed Schreiber with their harems, and Tom Yarnall following in the big b:lYs' footsteps Last but certainly not least in our hearts are our revered educators. We find Bill Stohr teaching English in Miss Sanbe's place, and Margaret Whelan assisting Anne Ransing. As our picture fades and darkness covers the crystal ball, we thank the .gypsy, and sadly leave the tent in which we've spent a few moments recapturing the faces of the friends we'll never forget.
"A". Orchids to Arlington Harman for being the first man to reach the moon In his earth to moon rocket. Not far from this tent we find Barker Parker and his girlies: Carolyn "The Torso" Hamilton and Barbara "Stump" Hall. Also we see Bunny Gruwell, the cute dancer, and "Dead-Eye" Grotz grabbing the men. Lights, camera, action! Next we meet Evelyn "Keyes" McAlpin decked from head to toe in mink. Behind her is her press agent, Jack Spargo, lugging the suit cases. Being in style is quite the thing for all women. The latest shade seems to be pale green, the color of the faces of Barbara Garrett, Joan Kresge, and Louise Weber after their first voyage on the bounding main. This doesn't go for Lt. General Peanut Richardson, as she's a land lover in the U. S. Marines. More members of the armed forces are Admiral George Swatek and P. F. C. Frank
Murphy. Across the airways Bud Dreyer is taking pictures of Nancy Shenberger modeling the 31

Class History suspense to all and joyous hearts to Rocky Fisher' Barney Parker, Arlie Harman and Carol Mason. Suspense was quite a commodity in the big tent that year. Student Council elections kept us all on pins and needles until it was finally announced that Rocky Fisher had won the fight, with Joe Kierstead as vice-president. Our Junior-Senior Prom was the main event of the year. Hop Harrigan headed the Decorating Committee and Tom YarnaIl took care of the programs. Our theme of "Moonlight and Roses" impressed everyone.
. Climb aboard the ferris wheel, and let's look over the ups and downs of the past four years.
1946-47 At the bottom of the wheel-ninth grade! We were all proud of ourselves as we entered our freshman year. We were also proud of being the oldest ones during the junior high lunch period. Among our n~w members were Charlie Doyle, Madeline Fitzgerald and Virginia Jones. John Nessen left us, but came back again later. JoAnn Christopherson left us to go to Arlington, Virginia.
1949-50 The top of the wheel at last! Sparkling lights and hundreds of tiny people on the ground below-but we didn't feel a bit different. It seemed funny, though, to walk down the haIl and have people you never saw before call you by name-aIl because you were a Senior. We started the year by having class elections. The results were: Barney Parker, president; Tom YarnaIl, vice-president; Hop Harrigan, treasurer; and Madeline Fitzgerald, secretary. Our annual barn party came into view and went over the top with a bang. Soon Christmas card sales were booming, and we fattened our treasury with the proceeds. This year brought us a number of new faces: Frank Murphy, Ginny Morton, Mary Warnick, Butch GaIlo and Dana Kisuik. Late in the year Lorraine Hayworth came to us from Upper Darby. "Ranie", as she is called by her friends, is quiet and shy, but she soon grew to like Springfield. She is a contemporary writer, but plans to give all that up for a certain man in her life. We started "the yearbook with Joan Wilson editing. Dummies, pictures, deadlines-what a headache! Our class was again a "first" in organizing the Girls' Varsity Club. The Senior Play crept in and out again, but not unnoticed. I t was a huge success entitled "Riddle Me Riches". Barbara and Bud Dreyer played the leading roles as brother and sister. In March the Honor Society placed nine deserving seniors on the stage: Margie Abrahamson, Malena Avedisian, Barbara Hall, Hop Harrigan, Joe Jackson, Margaret McLaughlin, Rose Reiniger, Joy SchiIler and Tom Yarnall. Then came the Washington trip. It was quite a fight, but we finally got to the Capital. Everyone had a swell time, too. Our last formal dance at Springfield . was the Junior-Senior Prom. After that, in rapid succession, came the Dinner-Dance, Baccalaureate and finaIly Graduation. And so, the Ferris wheel makes its descent; after a four-year trip, we are back to earth.
1947-48 On the way up-tenth grade! This was a memorable year for us. We entered upon our first year of senior high full of vim and vigor, bu t our egos were soon deflated by our superiors. Our first objective was to choose the courses to be followed through to the end of our senior year. We were ably guided by our home room teachers: Miss Berry, Mr. Richardson and Mr. Hottenstein. Dorothy Bucknum, Mary Livezey, Margaret Whelan, Sylvia Shaw, Jack Duddy and Catherine Vaughters joined us that year. We had as our home room representatives for Student Council: Don Morgan, Ron Forrester, Mary Crouse, Evelyn McAlpin, Sylvia Shaw and Ed Schreiber. Of course, the main event of our sophomore year was the Soph Hop, which we called "Tulip Time". We had as our class officers: Barney Parker, president; Walt Schmidt, vice-president; Rocky Fisher, treasurer; Madeline Fitzgerald, secretary. By the end of that year six people had left our ranks. They were: Nelson Capper, Dorothy Schnell, Sylvia Shaw, Marion Walkup, Lee Morris and Paula Rice.
1948-49 Almost the top of the wheel-eleventh grade! As class officers we elected: Barney Parker, president; Walt Schmidt, vice-president; Rocky Fisher, treasurer and Madeline Fitzgerald, secretary. In October we had a c1:?.5s bam party which proved to be quite a success. During the month of December we sold magazine subscriptions to build up our treasury. Some of us struggled through physics and some said, "I know better." Our newcomers for the year were: TuIly Stewart, Joe Jackson and Joan Wilson, while Ron Forrester left us for Penn Charter. Near the beginning of the second semester we ordered our class rings. Upholding our tradition of being first in many things, we chose a unique design. The Honor Society brought
