Define ¡ Yourself Out of faces, can you set yourself apart? 1,1 78

How would you venture to define yourself? Do you dare to be different or do you conform to the world around you? In Springfield High School, students are encouraged to pave thei r own way and stand for what they believe in. Everyone has a different outlook at one point or another, even if they stand alone in defending it or if it does seem "uncool". The point is to be able to express and differentiate yourself to form an identity. This identity is all your own; no one can take it from you and it is built on experiences and memories that form over a lifetime. At SHS, we are known for our diversity, our open minded staff, and our lively student body. With over 30 different clubs, we strive to prove our uniqueness by getting involved. SHS encourages students to follow the road that holds their ultimate dreams and goals. Teachers are always willing to go out of their way to help open doors of opportunity as well. Through all this, it is inevitable that we will struggle in figuring out exactly who we are. As freshman, we try our hardest to adjust and fit in with a new place. As sophomores, we attempt to expand our horizons and set ourselves apart. As juniors, we go out of our way to be opinionated and start looking towards the future. Finally, as seniors, we are able to learn from every past year. We combine our skills, intelligence, and determination to begin the journey to that place we've always wanted to go to. Nobody said any part of this process was easy or planned. Being quite the opposite, students have definitely earned their way towards success in school. Through the piles of homework, the pressure, and busy schedules, we manage to individualize ourselves. No matter what you've been told, this is the true purpose of high school. It's all about discovering yourself and not comforming to being just another face in the crowd. As students, we are defined as Springfield High School. However, each of us represents a person who has developed into an identity that no one else can claim. As individuals, we are undefined.

Summer Fun Traveling abroad, attending athletic camps and concerts, and making money-- SHS students definitely kept busy during the summer of 2006. As always, the Jersey shore was a popular destination, while other students traveled as far as Florida, Canada, and California. And, whether or not your vacation included a getaway from Springfield, every student enjoyed the break from tests, homework, and endless hours of other undefined activities and sports.

<\s always, styles change at Springfield High School every year. We often look to celebrities, llagazines, or TV shows to get our next style deas. Some people dress to show off their Jersonality; others just like to have fun. The styles :hat the students of SHS are sporting are as llemorable as ever, and include plaid shorts, eggings, headbands, polka dot and stripe patters, :ipped jeans, Vera Bradley bags, ballet flats, thermals, and the list goes on. Students take full 3.dvantage of being able to express themselves through clothing during school and we see =xamples of our diverse style each and every day. 10

The Lady Cougars did a brilliant job terrorizing the field against their opponents this year. They had a regular season record of 12 wins, 4 losses, and one tie. After the season they went on to win eight games and lost only one. They are now proud to say that they are the Central League Champs for the 2006 field hockey season. The ladies used great sportsmanship, extensive training, teamwork, and perseverance to complete a successful season. 26

Hi-Q

Think you have too much to study? Just ask the SHS Hi-Q team, who studies additional material in order to compete in the oldest academic competition in the country. Luckily, their diligence paid off. In their first meet of the season, they destroyed the Christian Academy and Archbishop Carroll (47-26-14). This was a shining start for an extremely bright team!

A Spirited Shout! When asking which group of students

Cougar Crazies

have the most school spirit, the answer is easily, "the Cougar Crazies!" These zealous young men attend virtually every basketball game (in addition to other sporting events) in order to cheer on and lend support to their peers. Though there have been "c razies" in the past, this year's group took it to a new level by painting their chests with blue and gold pride. Hopefully their efforts have spurred a tradition that will cheer on over the years!

An ATM is conveniently located in the Main Lobby, which allows students and staff to access their accounts at any time of the day. The Credit Union is located in between the audions, which is where this group of hard working students can be found during forth block, as well as after school. Defining their While most students at SHS sp end their days in lea rning in classrooms, the Students of Vo-Tech and Med-Tech are practicing their craft. E~eryday the VoTech students spend half of their day learning to cook, repair cars, and style hair. The Med-Tech Students spent their time in a hospital learning and watching different medical proceedures. Everyday is a new adventure at Vo-Tech and Med-Tech.

On March 30,2007 the class of 2009 had their second formal dance of SHS. This time, they broke away from the school cafeteria and experienced their dance at a catered and more appealing venue - The Drexelbrook. Eating, followed by music and dancing entertained the Sophomore class and their dates. It was truly a ble night.

Own Way!

NewatSHS

This year, Springfield High School entered a new era of night time entertainment when the football field lit up for the first time for the fall season of 2006. Despite the battles over our new advancement in technology, SHS has successfully been provided with lights. The endless months of construction have resulted in bringing together not only the school, but the community as well. Students are provided with the opportunity to attend night games and various other activities that can now be held on the field. The night time atmosphere can now be enjoyed for many years to come. Etched In

~tone Yearbook Staff It's been a long seven months since the beginning process of forming the yearbook. The yearbook staff has been there through it all. They have taken pictures, designed spreads, attended events, and the list goes on. The foundation of the book starts with the faces on this page, and without them, the memories wouldn't all be here. 4

The Difference

Than

+

+

"Dancing for a Difference" was truly what was on everyone's mind during the 2007 Dance Marathon on March 23. Bigger and better than ever before, the 5th Thon held at SHS proved that our students really can come together for a good cause. Fundraisers from Powder-Puff to pie eating and Springfield's Slimmest to duct taping, continuously rolled in the money throughout the school year. With a goal of $45 ,000 the students definitely had their work cut out for them. After the screens were assembled, posters put up, food ordered, and the list goes on, it simply all came down to one thing--THE KIDS. Congrats on surpassing the goal and raising over $61 ,OOO!
