Impacto en 1000 km de longitud y al 90% de la población chilena. 548 muertos y desaparecidos. 800.000 personas afectadas. 200.000 viviendas seriamente dañadas y destruidas. 4.000 escuelas dañadas y 30 hospitales 1.000.000 de alumnos afectados. NECESIDADES

“En esta tragedia la necesidad de herramientas de construcción y de planificación es tan alta, que la proporción de herramientas disponibles es de una por cada seis voluntarios (estudiantes y pobladores)” nos relata Andrés Soffia, Director Regional de Valdivia de Un Techo para Chile.
Este proyecto ha identificado éste como el factor limitante para el éxito de la acción de construcción de viviendas de emergencia que recae en Un Techo para Chile. AYUDAS ESPONTANEAS
Se organizaron diferentes acciones de ayuda entre miles de necesidades. Entre ellas PON UNA HERRAMIENTA EN SU MANO.
RECOLECCION DE FONDOS $1.300.000.- (Pesos Chilenos) durante las primeras dos semanas de lanzado este
proyecto. El Instituto Alemán de Valdivia con sus doce cursos juntaron el grueso de la primera donación. Están apoyando un grupo de ex alumnos del mismo colegio promoción 1981 y círculos de amigos del gestor. Se agradece profundamente la cooperación con esta iniciativa y la confianza en el procedimiento. HERRAMIENTAS
La primera entrega de herramientas se realizó el 12.03.10 bajo el patrocinio y auspicio del Instituto Alemán de Valdivia y administrada por Un Techo para ChileValdivia. Visita a uno de los lugares de construcción: 20 y 21.03.10 en Penco, Concepción. Se construyen ahí viviendas de emergencia para la caleta de pescadores de Penco destruida por el Tsunami. José Martínez y Fernando Pairo, voluntarios jefes de grupos de construcción de Un Techo para Chile nos relatan:
“Debido a que cada voluntario tenía una herramienta, el grupo de Valdivia mostró una capacidad de trabajo mucho más alta que los otros grupos” El sitio de construcción contó con la visita del ministro de MIDEPLAN el sábado 20.03. TESTIMONIO PERSONAL
Esta acción se ha transformado en un plan piloto, modelo para contar con bodegas de emergencia para voluntarios. Consideremos que Chile vive grandes crisis geográficas permanentemente: terremotos, maremotos, volcanismo. La acción de estudiantes voluntarios es impresionante en la solidaridad y voluntad. Para lograr la máxima eficiencia solo requieren contar con planes seguros, bien comunicados, materiales de la construcción (prefabricados) a tiempo, y herramientas de construcción. Los voluntarios mismos han organizado un sistema de bodega para cuidar las herramientas que deben pasar de uno a otro sitio de construcción, funcionando en las largas distancias que deben viajar.
PASOS SIGUIENTES
Hemos realizado un segundo catastro de herramientas que se necesitan. Las pondremos a disposición de la ONG Un Techo para Chile de Valdivia, que continuará construyendo en la región de Concepción, parte sur del área de catástrofe. Complementariamente, estamos asesorando un plan piloto de implementación que realizarán alumnos de educación media del Instituto Alemán de Valdivia, para (parte) de estas mismas viviendas. Profesionales voluntarios estamos trabajando en esta asesoría y coordinación de la ayuda con estudiantes de secundaria hacia personas y familias que ahora viven la necesidad extrema.

FACTS OF EARTHQUAKE

SPECIFIC NEEDS

“Due to this tragedy, the need of quik planing and provition of handtools is so big, that you may considerer the actual proportion of six volunteers (students and damnificate beneficiaries) for one hand tool”. This Project has indentified that issue as the determinant factor to ensure a precise goal for fast emergency houses building procceses, where NGO Un Techo para Chile is widely responsible. SPONTANEUS HELP
After the earthquake different iniciatives to help people in extreme need, have been organized. Amongst them is YOU HAVE A TOOL IN YOUR HAND TO HELP.
FUNDS RECOLLECTION
$2.500 (Dollars) or E1.800 Euros have been collected during the first two weeks of this project, along donations of the German School in Valdivia; a network of old students of the same school (year 1981); and friends of the manager of this project. A sincerely ‘thank you’ is given to all of them, who openly support this iniciative and the procedures to make it work.
HANDTOOLS
A first group of volunteer students have received handtools on march 12th under the sponsorship of the German School in Valdivia and the direct administration of the NGO Un Techo para Chile. Visit to one of the building sites: March 20th and 21st in Penco, next to Concepción, in midst of the area of catastrophe. There, emergency shleters have been biult to provide a room to the fishermen and their families, who have completly lost their homes by the tsunami. José Martínez and Fernando Pairo, volunteers and cheaf of building groups at Un Techo para Chile reported:
“By having each one handtools, the group of volunteers coming from Valdivia has shown a wider work capacity compared to other groups” The building site has received the visit of the th Minister of Planing on Saturday 20 . PERSONAL TESTIMONY
This first step of the project had pilot coracteristic, a model to ensure a tool bank for volunteers. You may consider how Chile is constantly afected by huge teutonic shoks: earthquakes, tsunamies, volcanic eruptions. Students, as volunteer workers, impress everyone due to their spirit of solidarity and will. As they submit to extreme conditions of emergency it is requiered clear planing, well comunicated, construction material on time, (prefabricated) and building hand tools. These volunteers have organize a good hand tool banking system to guarantee the arrival of this tools along the next building instances. Based on the experience made, a second list of hand tools has been created to provide fast progress.
NEXT BUILDING STEPS
NGO Un Techo para Chile of Valdivia is commited in the construction of hundreds of houses in Concepción area, the south part of the destructive epicenter. A second pilot plan based on secondary school students in Valdivia has started to give most urgent implementation of these shelters. As professional volunteers, we are working to help and organize the continuos building and implementation process, in order to help people without a house as soon as possible.
