IT'S SMOOTHIE TIME! One Small, Positive Change in the Morning Can Make Your Whole Day Better Green Smoothies are all the rage, and for good reason! Blending up a bunch of curly leaves may be the easiest way ever to enjoy nourishing, life-giving greens. As the American Institute for Cancer Research writes, “Spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, leaf lettuce, mustard greens, collard greens, chicory and Swiss chard are excellent sources of fiber, folate, and a wide range of carotenoids such as lutein and zeaxanthin, along with saponins and flavonoids.” And if those big words don’t mean much to you, leafy greens are chock-full of cancer-fighting antioxidants and have even been shown to keep your brain healthy. The USDA recommends 3-4 daily servings of dark leafy greens daily. That’s the equivalent of 3-4 cups of raw greens, which can be hard to stomach, especially if you’re one of those people that eschews chomping your way through a salad daily. Instead of feeling like a rabbit, why not blend those daily leaves into a green smoothie and start your day off with a deliciously healthy sipper? We’ve rounded up more than 40 delicious smoothies, made by some of the best food bloggers in the world. Want to combine these incredible ideas into a healthy eating plan? We’ve got one of those for you, too! Flip to page 5 and grab our 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge, and enjoy one green smoothie daily for a whole month. Rachael Hutchings | lafujimama.com Our bodies have their own detoxification system, consisting mainly of the kidneys, liver, intestines, lungs, and skin, which is constantly filtering our blood to eliminate harmful compounds to maintain health. By eating the right foods we can aid our internal organs to filter more toxins out of the blood stream and avoid build-up and disease. This smoothie is a great place to start! Each ingredient helps out this detox process in some way. Beets are full of antioxidants and other beneficial nutrients and stimulate the liver to eliminate more toxins out of your blood stream. Apples contain a compound which stimulates bile production and helps the liver to get rid of toxins. Beet greens, which are often thrown away, are filled with fiber to cleanse our digestive tract and are packed with vitamins, minerals, and other powerful nutrients. Blueberries are full of antioxidants, have anti-inflammatory properties, and are great to purify your blood from toxins and free radicals. Strawberries contain a substance called ellagic acid, which some studies have shown seems to help the liver break down or remove some cancer-causing substances from the blood. In addition, strawberries contain one of the highest levels of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) of any fruit, which has been shown to help flush fats from the liver.

Brooke Lark | cheekykitchen.com Rather than filling up on caffeine and cream, smoothie bowls are a simple way to start my day with skinny, healthy habits. A bowl full of totally raw fruits and veggies fills me up and ensures I'm getting my all important greens. Plus, carefully chosen toppings like hemp seeds, chia, sesame seeds, and avocado give me vital fats and energy that fuel me through the day without feeling hungry.

1. In an industrial-strength blender, whip together the avocado, banana, ginger, vanilla, and coconut milk beverage. 2. Pour into a bowl, top with toppings. Pipe dark chocolate and coconut oil out of the snipped corner of a ziptop bag. Write something inspiring. Serve and enjoy.

Rika Agustini | poshjournal.com This green smoothie blend is very high in antioxidants. There is natural sweetness from whole fruit to get extra fiber instead of just the juice. The hemp seed and chia seed increase the fiber amounts, and the matcha powder packs in a ton of other health benefits.

Tania Boylen | thecookspyjamas.com Don’t have time to make a green smoothie? Keep a stack of these popsicles in the freezer for snacking on the go, and get a good dose of fruits and vegetables at the same time. I find these sweet enough so don’t use additional sweeteners. If you prefer the mixture a little sweeter, either add more pineapple or a dash of coconut/maple syrup.

1. Cover the cashews with boiling water and set aside.

These popsicles will be vegan if you use tofu in place of the cottage cheese.

2. Place the remainder of the ingredients in a food processor or blender. 3. Drain the water from the cashews and add to the rest of the ingredients.

¼ cup cashews 1 kiwi fruit, roughly chopped 1 cup chopped pineapple 2 cups spinach

4. Blend the mixture until smooth. 5. Pour the mixture into popsicle molds and insert popsicle sticks into each mold.

1 cup mint leaves

6. Freeze for 6 hours or until firm.

½ cup cottage cheese or silken tofu*

Notes: To make these vegan, use silken tofu in place of the cottage cheese. Silken tofu will blend more thoroughly than firmer types of tofu. It is not necessary to soak the cashews, but they will blend into the mixture better with even a short soak.

½ cup coconut milk Juice 1 lemon Juice 1 lime Coconut or maple syrup (optional)

1. Combine spinach and almonds in a blender until smooth. 2. Add milk, ice cream, apple, and pear, and blend again until smooth. 3. If desired, add honey and blend to combine. Serve immediately. NOTES: The honey is optional in this recipe because it depends on how sweet your smoothies turn out. It can change depending on the ripeness of the fruits, and the variety or brand of soy milk and ice cream you use. Be sure to taste your smoothie to check if it needs to be sweeter before adding the honey.
