BE N S MIT H Owning a camper has given me the freedom to travel more frequently (1). Early January, I was off to Revy to film with Level 1. Arriving a few days early, I was able to find some killer snow and sweet terrain to get the blood flowing again (2).
THE HONEY HOLE
After three weeks in Revy, I loaded everything up and headed stateside to Montana, where I found colder temps and a hella lot of snow (3). After skiing mainly lines and pillows in Canada, it was nice to switch things up and focus more on a pow jibbin’ (4). I ended the trip off with one of the best sessions of the season with a huge variety of tricks going down (5).

THE BROTHERS KAMP We picked up the ol’ ‘89 this fall and took her on her maiden voyage to the Legendary Banked Slalom (1). Kix’s 80’s shades fit right in while navigating. “Cover up that cheeseburger gut, bud”(2). Full of burgers and fuel, we were off to Mt. Baker.
(2)
Say your prayers and grease your board, the competition is fierce (3-4). We got sun in the forecast and mud on the coil. It’s race day! Race day morning in the RV was picturesque, so we decided to move in for a closer look of Mt. Baker peak (5-6). Kix qualified 3rd, so we took the afternoon to cruise around Mt. Baker (7).

F E AT U R E D AT H L E T E TIM DURTSCHI Saga Veteran / World Traveler “Born in Alaska and raised on the road, Tim Durtschi first came into my life in the Summer of ‘05 at Mt. Hood. Over the years, I’ve experienced some of the most impressive, jaw-dropping moments of his career. Much of our early friendship was spent talking about what was next for the upcoming seasons or debating who was a better ski racer growing up--we’d never discussed the early freestyle years. This was a good opportunity to gain some insight.”
“I learned my first corked and switch 720’s at the Russian Jack Golf Course” My first jump was at Russian Jack Golf Course near the University of Anchorage in Alaska. There was a sledding hill with a steep landing on one of the putting greens and it was only a five-minute drive my house. I would convince my parents to drive me there after school to hit the jump. I learned my first corked and switch 720’s at the Russian Jack golf course. Alaska is known for big mountains and crazy spine lines, but for a young kid growing up there are a lot of options in the city when the snowpack doesn’t melt until April.

SARLACC PIT
BENSON GAP Two days later, after a quick Wasatch reset storm, Tim called us again to tell us he and a crew had built up the behemoth and were going to be hitting it in the morning. A few wild speed checks later and Tim shot like a cannonball out from the lip between the trees. And thus a new Wasatch Gap was added to the list.

The Sarlacc Pit gap is an interesting zone among the many jump spots in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Blowing wind and area topography create a snow-covered pit with just enough space to build a jump over it. On this particular day with with Tim, as we wrapped up, we noticed an option for a higher, much larger gap over the pit. Tim told us that photographer Brent Benson had suggested it a few days ago.

For any ladies looking to expand their all-terrain talents, look no further than Beyond the Boundaries, a women’s snowboard camp started by Christine Savage and Mary Walsh. BTBounds holds two-day weekend park camps in the US and Canada throughout winter as well as two locations of international tours that focus on all-mountain riding and backcountry basics. This winter, Saga teamed up with BTBounds to outfit the ladies from Japan to New Jersey and everywhere in between. Here’s a quick rundown of the different places they’ve been spending time at lately.

There are few things better than a stormy day with free refills followed by a bowl of spicy ramen. And there are few better places to enjoy this combination than on Japan’s north island of Hokkaido. In January, we headed across the Pacific on a powder mission. Our posse of powderhounds went straight to Niseko United where we started our trip with run-after-run in deep Japow. Our days were spent lapping at both Niseko and Rusutsu Resort. Rusutsu is the largest resort on Hokkaido and is a terrain playground. Open bowls are filled with poppers, side hits, and berms. Niseko United is made up of four distinct resorts: Annupuri, Niseko Village, Grand Hirafu, and Hanazono, all connected via a lift system at the peak of the mountain. Travel tip: Make sure to pick up some Mio sparkling at the nearby Lawson’s for post-onsen après.
At the end of January, we headed to New Jersey to Mountain Creek, the mountain where BTBounds Head Coach Christine Savage learned to snowboard. Creek is home to a community of dedicated snowboarders who have honed their edges on East Coast ice and new tricks were popping in our private park all weekend. A progression pole jam and street-style down tube were favorites of the ladies, but they sent it on everything, dialing in brand new boardslides and 270’s out as well as firsttime indys and front 360’s. New Jersey is known for their bagel breakfast sandwiches, but we saw more Taylor hams go down in the park than in the delis!

L O O N MOU NTAIN, NEW H AM PSH IRE High in the White Mountains of New Hampshire is where Beyond the Boundaries began as Droppin’ In at Loon Mountain, a weekend camp that has been an annual staple in the mountain’s winter schedule for over a decade. The Loon Mountain Parks are notorious for churning out talented snowboarders and skiers and so it makes sense that the resort would foster the same stoke in welcoming women to the lines of jumps and jibs. One of the only BTBounds stops that is both snowboard and ski, Droppin’ In at Loon is one of our favorite weekends of the year.

There’s few better places be in spring than in Tahoe, where sunny park laps peak in April. Many of the BTBounds coaching staff call the Lake Tahoe area home: Christine Savage, Fancy Rutherford and Taylor Elliot all spend their winters in The Sierra. April 14-15th, we are sunscreening up, waxing our bases and spending the weekend at Boreal and we are stoked! The Woodward Tahoe parks are stocked with a minipipe, so many different jibs, and transition everywhere. Plus, we’re stoked to jump on the trampolines and skate in The Bunker!

W O ODWA RD TAH OE, CALIFORNIA
Each summer, when the thermometer rises and weekends are more pool parties that powder turns, we partner with SteepN-Deep Powder Tours to head to South America in search of deep snow, park laps, and pisco sours (Chile’s favorite après beverage). The jagged peaks of the Chilean Andes stretch out far into the skyline of Valle Nevado, La Parva, and El Colorado, three epic resorts just outside Santiago. Their above-treeline trails wind down and around the peaks, offering perfect groomers and spring conditions when it’s sunny and light and deep powder after storms.
