"Engaging Architecture into Experience"
T he course of my academic and professional learning, has not only transformed my architectural learning but it has also urged me to play an active role in our society by exposing me to numerous issues we face as a community, city, country while simultaneously teaching me to address them architecturally. The exposure to various theories, concepts and methods have led me to explore the idea of architecture. At this point I stand in a transitional phase where I am ready to take a position on the practice, which stands ahead of me. Many great minds in our profession, in various ways have presented the diverse approaches one can take to address the challenges put forth to us. This has been instrumental towards developing my approach towards architecture. A rchitecture, both in my learning and consideration has always been a science of creating spaces. A space that gives an experiential value to the user while it sits in harmony with its context. My approach has always been a mixture of intuitive and conscious design values based on function, observation and research. Often while addressing a project, the aspect of function has been my prime concern. This framework allows me to convert my theoretical learnings into practice and address the project based on the functionality of the program. T his portfolio is a collection of projects that have been approached in the framework stated above. The nature of projects included display the flexibility from interior space to an urban intervention.

TRANSPORT HUB I N T H A N E IMPRO VING THE TRANSFER CONDITIONS AT MAJIWADA JUNCTION
There is a constant pressure on the transport system due to the increasing population. The planners have used multiple methods to tackle this issue. All transport related issues come from many broader issues or planning failures, but can be remedied by the development and usage of public transportation. There is a need for planning in the transit system. The architectural failures in existing transit systems can be improved to bestow upon the commuters a better experience. The primary problem that was created by over saturation of automobiles in our major cities around the country was the degradation of other modes of transportation that it creates through limiting the accessibility of their use. Also automobiles isolate the user from the community. There is no interaction with the outdoor or the people which creates even further isolation of individuals in the community. An attempted solution to this issue is the concept of an Intermodal Transport Hub. An intermodal transport hub provides the use of multiple modes of transport at a single point, thus reducing the transfer time in the transition and providing a suitable environment for the same. A successful Transport hub facilitates safe transfer between multiple modes of transport and provides with an environment that implements a seamless travel experience. Further, these facilities can be supported by various other public or private functions that may be convenient to the users. These observations and demands led me to select Thane as my thesis location and to explore how to improve transfer environment at key locations, to facilitate a seamless transfer and potentially encourage the use of public transportation. The introduction of Metro-IV corridor further strengthens the need for a transit node in Thane. The aim was to explore architectural interventions to provide an efficient transfer and will also provide a comfortable experience with other user amenities during the transfer. And finally, a lively sustainable public space to benefit not only the commuters but also the neighborhood.

S O C I A L O U S I N G NEHRU NAGAR, JVPD SCHEME, MUMBAI
Nehru Nagar is a 25 acres slum located in Juhu - Vile-Parle Development (JVPD) Scheme and is a home to approximately 10,000 households. The slum is in a major despair and obviously lacks basic facilities such as water supply, sanitation and public recreational amenities. The overall study comprised of physical and mental mapping of entire Nehru nagar. The front edge of the Nehru nagar is facing the V.M. Marg with a diverse fabric of commercial, residential and service sector settlements. The back edge reaches the boundaries of Pawan Hans Airport. The back edge of the Nehru nagar reaches the boundaries of Pawan Hans Airport. The slum has two main primary entry points amd two secondary entry points. The physical structure of the slum consists of a central lane as a core to all the chawls. All the major convenience amenities are along this central lane. Though being the only major route of acces for the entire slum, it is not properly maintained. There are by-lanes on each side of this lane which provide immediate acces to each settlement in the slum. This bylanes emerge from the central lane and reach out till the periphery of the slum. There are nodes formed at some places at the junction of this bylanes and the central lane. Public toilets are placed on the Pawan Hans side, as all the sewage can be connected to the airport sewage line. Through a series of interviews and site visits, an insight into the daily life of the residents provided a better understandingof the social life in Nehru nagar. The slum is home to many migrants who left their native in search of better monetary opportunities. Whilst most occupants are families, a significant portion also comprises of shared and single occupancies. Extremely dense fabric of the slum does not allow any space for recreational or community activities. However, the residents have informally created relief spaces such as otlas that extend out from a settlement. These spaces form an integral part for the gatherings within the clusters. The project focused on to provide an In-Situ Rehabilitation for the existing households by keeping the social nature of the settlements unchanged and to provide with the amenities that were lacking in the existing conditions. The projected concentrated on creating a 5-acres Masterplan that would act as a module for the rest 20 acres of Nehru Nagar.
GROUP PROJECT (2 PARTICIPANTS): SAGAR NARESH KARALE NIKUNJ RAJESH HINGU 15
Community Attraction / Self Sustainance : The variation of mix-use and single-use settlements. There are certain ares which are used for community gatherings. These spaces are kept away from encroachment. The internal road housing all the convenience commodities making Nehru Nagar a self-sustaining system.
Unsafe Pedestrian Movement : The main internal road is the spine of Nehru Nagar. The high-level density within the slum and at the edge of the spine make it inefficient to provide a Map showing Nehru Nagar and 5 acre site selected for intervention.
decent passive surveellance to the pedestrian links (by-lanes), resulting in potential safety issues to the pedestrians.
Plan showing the Structures
Gateway Establishment : The establishment of distinct getaways to the proposed plot will redefine the perimeter to provide more open spaces and solve the issue of missing pedestrians links, thus providing a safe access and circulation.
Plan showing the By-Lanes Unsafe Settlements on the edges : The high degree of density has resulted encroachment till the extreme perimeter of the plot. There are settlements which have been constructed on and along the nallah. Also there are slums which have been constructed on the boundary walls of the adjacent residential plots. Axonometric plan showing the main central road with by-lanes extending from it; all the important nodes and the open spaces in each cluster.
This type of development has caused isolation and open space deficiency within the the site. 18

GWALIOR VISITOR CENTRE KILA GATE, OLD CITY, GWALIOR.
The Gwalior fort is the only known identity of Gwalior city, since the 8th century. Old Gwalior, began to grow in the 13th century and was the first settlement of the city. Now it bears traces of heritage, both built and un-built belonging to different time periods. The area attracts tourists only because of the fort and Tansen's tomb, however the old city itself has a rich history and distinct character of its own. It has various old buildings, local small industries, market areas, educational and religious institutions. The study intends to capture the essence of the old where remnants of the old have been retrofitted by the new. The design will serve both the locals and the tourists and will attempt to revive the old city. Existing scenario: Currently the movement of the tourists' is towards the Kila Gate (which is the south entrance to the fort). Due to this the tourists ignore many buildings which can be classified as Heritage Buildings. Also because of this direct movement of the tourists to the fort, there is a lack of interaction between the tourists and the local people. Proposed intervention: The primary aim is to increase the time period, a tourist spends in the old city. This will happen if the programme focuses on creating a space which educates the tourists about the old city and old city is much more than the fort. The programme will also focus on creating many community spaces which will boost the interaction between the tourists and the local people.

All the important buildings in the vicinity are marked in blue color. The pathways are further developed to create a distinct route of movement within the Site. Thus making the site accessible from all sides.
25
A distinct pathway is then freezed so as to divert the tourist in a pattern that leads to the heritage buildings in the area through the dense fabric, thus improving the interaction between the the tourists and the locals.
