5 instances when inspections might be required with car insurance

Car inspections are something most of us would avoid if we could. However, there are some instances wherein inspections are mandatory. This article will highlight some of these instances so you can better prepare for them and ensure you have a smooth experience with your car insurance policy.

1. Renewing your policy after a long break. If you see to your car insurance renewals in a timely manner, your car will never have to face inspections. However, fail to renew your policy on time and you might have to endure an inspection upon renewal. This is especially if there was a significant break in coverage which leads to a lapse in your policy.

2. Change in coverage. Sometimes, if you’re increasing the coverage of your policy, you might be subjected to inspections. This is mostly when upgrading from a third party to comprehensive four wheeler insurance. However, inspections could also be called for when including add-ons or going from single-year to long-term policies.

3. Transfer of motor insurance policy. In case you’re selling your car or buying a secondhand car, there’s always a chance of inspection before the insurance can be transferred to the new owner. Sure, the new owner can choose to scrap the existing policy and buy a new policy. However, just like you would get a mechanic to inspect a secondhand car, the new insurance provider would also want to inspect the car before providing the policy.

4. Inclusion of modifications or CNG/LPG kits. If you make any modification to your car, you should inform your car insurance provider. They will, in turn, send over an inspector to check the modifications and ascertain whether or not you will have to pay an increased premium to cover said modifications. Also, if you install a CNG/LPG kit, you need to inform your insurance provider. Again they will send over an agent to inspect the vehicle.

5. Damages. Of course, one of the obvious instances wherein an inspection might be mandatory is when you claim for compensation after an accident. The car insurance company will send over an inspector to the garage where your car is being repaired to ascertain if the claim is valid and not a fraud. After this, they will also asses the damages and arrive at a compensation amount.

How to avoid inspections: Drive safely so you will never have to make a claim. Also, remember to renew your policy on time. If visiting the branch is too much of a hassle, you can opt for online car insurance renewal. Also, buying a policy from one of the many InsureTech companies is also advisable. These companies keep the need for the inspection down to a minimum. Hyperlink with our main page
