( S e l e c t e d Wo r k s f r o m 2 0 1 8 - 2 0 2 2 )
Hi! I am Shiyu.
01
I am a professional interior designer with educational background in both China and the United States. I obtained a bachelor's degree in interior design 2017, and I have received a double master's degree in interior design and furniture design in 2022. Throughout my early career, I have developed deep insights into high-end hotel design, residential design, work environment design, and sustainable development design. I have lived in several countries and my travel experiences have shaped me into a very diverse thinker who embraces the unknown and accepts differences very readily. For me, the essence of space design is to promote human physical and mental health. Thus, I have my biggest cncern on the preliminary research and analysis of the design, including natural lighting, ventilation, drainage, and HVAC systems. Aside from that, I have also participated in two ancient villages reactivate design, China. Thus, I have a deep understanding and persistent pursuit of the ingenious combination of cultural locality, authentic stories, and design. I believe that it is important that interior designers should have compassion, respect, good communication skills, creativity, and the ability to solve problems. In my opinion, a good interior design works not only bring people a unique experience, but also leave them with memories they will cherish forever.

Late 20 Century For many years, Chinese traditional music lost popularity in mainstream markets
2022 New Youth, New Tradition Movement, China Chic 3.0 Traditional music attracts a lot of interest from younger generations
TRENDS
Project Location | Chengdu, China China's traditional music culture was originated in village life, however, it is disappearing rapidly due to increased urbanization ( Johnson, 2014). Music instruments served as a medium of social interaction in ancient China but have gradually lost their importance in modern cities’ life. The study examines ways to integrate traditional culture into Gen Z culture in order to raise the vitality of traditional music in modern times and promote mainstream appreciation.
RESEARCH QUESTION How can interior design assist with integrating Chinese music heritage with Gen Z culture in a third place setting to promote mainstream appreciation to Chinese traditional music ?
